The Sony SPP-A946 900 MHz analog cordless phone features 20-number speed dial, two-way paging/intercom, voice-guided operation, and a fully-integrated digital answering system to satisfy the basic needs of any busy household or small business. With up to 15 minutes of message recording time, the SPP-A946's digital answering system offers three individual mailboxes, so family members and co-workers can access their messages separately. Messages are automatically flagged with voice time/date stamping, and a digital message counter on the base unit indicates the number of messages waiting. Additional answering system features include announce-only mode (so callers can hear a message, but are unable to leave a message), and an audible message waiting indicator that can be switched on or off as desired. This is a great combination phone/answering machine; I had it hooked up in less than 5 minutes. Excellent sound quality which is critical for me, as I am hearing-impaired.

I have had this phone for nearly 2 years and have to say that I am satisfied. The sound quality is very good and the I love being able to page the handset from the base. Great speakerphone but the lack of battery backup bothers me still. A pretty good buy.

last longer than other phones.......2003-10-05

I have had this phone for about 3 years going on four.. I bought the phone for the range. And at that time that was the highest range now they have 5.3 I believe.. Anyway the phone still works like a charm.. I have another phone in the living room and Panasonic and quiet frankly I am not happy with the phone.. But my Sony takes a licken and keeps on ticking.. The battery doesn't run down as fast as the other phone. And I can leave it off the base for more than a day with out having to charge it up..

A disposable phone for a throwaway world.......2003-02-22

This product functioned suitably while it lasted. Unfortunately, it was only about 18 months. I replaced the Nicad battery twice at a cost of almost $20 per pop. And yes, I DID run the battery down as recommended and did not have it constantly on the cradle. The sound quality was relatively good and the ability to page the handset from the base was nice. The speakerphone was also relatively good. A huge complaint-No battery backup. Everytime the power went out, everything-remote access codes, basic settings and OGM had to be reset. I generally love Sony products. Not this one, however. I am still looking for a replacement. The handset is completely dead-not the battery this time. Save your money.

A GREAT all around phone...BUT.......2006-02-03

Crisp and clear audio. Easy to use functions. 3 mail boxes for messages, speed dial function for frequent numbers, and the range is pretty good, too - I've used mine over 300' from the base station.

HOWEVER - the charging circuit for the handset battery leaves a lot to be desired. Mine lasted less than 2 years and then the green charge light went out on the base unit when the handset was in place...indicating NO CHARGE function. No, it wasn't the battery. The charge circuit took a dump. It is out of warranty and Sony wants $25 to fix it plus shiping both ways. That will make it too expensive to repair something that has a FAULTY CIRCUIT DESIGN ! I may put it on the bench and see if I can fix it myself by reengineering the charging circuit to something a bit beefier.
