TeleZapper TZ 900

Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description
When you've had your dinner interrupted by a telemarketer one too many times, treat your phone line and yourself to the Telezapper TZ 900. It's a simple, one-time-cost solution to the problem of annoying telemarketing calls. Based on the enormously popular classic Telezapper, the newer Telezapper TZ 900 offers the advantages of a slimmer profile, built-in battery power, and an advanced three-tone mode.

Here's how it works: Given that more than 90 percent of telemarketing calls are placed with computer assistance, when either you or your answering machine answers the phone, the Telezapper emits a special tone that tells the computer your number has been permanently disconnected. Telemarketing companies that use automated dialing systems typically remove disconnected numbers from their calling lists, and as your phone number is eliminated from more and more telemarketing lists, you'll notice fewer calls. Of course, not all telemarketers use predictive dialing systems, and those that do will undoubtedly continue their work to evade the Telezapper, but it can be a partial solution.

Most predictive dialing systems will be fooled by the Telezapper's standard single tone. However, for newer dialing systems (presumably designed in response to the success of the previous Telezapper model), the TZ 900 offers an advance three-tone mode. To change the mode, unscrew and remove the protective case and then slide a recessed switch. (We suggest that Privacy Technologies put the switch on the outside for their next model.)

For the most part, regular callers are unaffected by the Telezapper, but it may "zap" calls from other organizations that use the same predictive dialing technology (such as charities, pollsters, and automated emergency weather systems) and from callers who use certain types of calling cards. (For more information, click FAQ, or frequently asked questions, in the left navigation bar.)

Installation takes seconds. Just plug the Telezapper into your phone line and your phone into the Telezapper. It's that simple. A built-in lithium-ion battery provides power and will likely last for the lifetime of the unit. The Telezapper includes a phone cord and instructions. Privacy Technologies backs the device with a one-year warranty. --Mike Brown

4 out of 5 stars It saves me a lot of headaches........2007-07-08

This product does what it advertizes. It has definately saved from answering phone calls I don't want to deal with. I also believe it sends a message to telemarketers that people are getting fed up with the constant barage of telemarketing calls. Thank you Telezapper.

5 out of 5 stars TeleZapper Review........2007-07-01

I've had the product installed for 45 days now on the advanced setting, and it does definitely seem to have eliminated some, and my guess is most, computer generated telemarketing calls.
It is too soon to determine if it eliminates all unwanted computer generated calls, and there are a couple that seem not to be removing my number. Probably more time is needed for final review.
After 45 days of use, I would definitely recommend the product.

1 out of 5 stars Does not work!.......2007-06-13

Messes up phone line. Do not buy!

4 out of 5 stars I LOVE this thing!!.......2007-02-27

Works like a champ!! I'm having a lot of trouble with nonprofit groups calling to fundraise. Repeated calls to their membership offices yielded no relief and I hate to simply not give money to worthy causes in order to stop their dial-a-beggars. (I still will give money, but I had one group calling me eight times a day! Enough!!) What's worse is that a lot of these groups also raise money by selling the names and addresses of their donors to similar groups, so you really wind up getting a lot of calls.

I got my TeleZapper for around $10, installed it four days ago, and believe me, it is already paying off. A dozen calls a day from the dreaded "toll free number" or "out of area" callers have now dwindled to nearly zero. I use caller ID with mine as well, so hopefully I'd be able to simply return a call from an organization I actually would want to speak to.

I'm leaving off one star because my Zapper is LOUD - when you pick up the phone it emits those three tones that are at the beginning of most phone company "we're sorry, you have reached a number that has been disconnected" recordings, and if you're not careful to wait a second or two before putting it to your ear it'll blow your mind. There may be some way to turn it down, though. It'd be swell if you could simply press a switch to make it do its thing instead of having to listen to the tones on every call, but it's a small price to pay for freedom from incessant 800-number calls.

I'll tell you this - I'll not be without one of these gizmos again. I couldn't find any other workable options - my phone company won't allow customers to block calls on an individual basis. Now I can read a book or watch a program without being interrupted by fundraisers. Thanks Telezapper! Let me know when you guys develop a program that'll get me off the mailing lists of all the solicitors, too...:)

5 out of 5 stars Get rid of most telemarketers for good!.......2007-01-31

I absolutely love this product. From the first time I plugged it in, the computer generated calls were "told" by my phone that my number was disconnected! I've had this for about 4 years and mine just broke - I went out and purchased another one right away! Some people complain that "real" calls get zapped also. I also have caller ID so I can see who called and know which ones were important and I just call them back if I need to. After a few months of having the telezapper there was a vast difference in the number of telemarketing calls I got. To this day, I still get computer generated calls once in a great while which the telezapper takes care of. The tones it emmits when first answering the phone are annoying at first but believe me, you don't even notice it after a while.

End Those Annoying Telemarketing Calls Today!! If Ben Franklin had owned a phone, he would have said, In this world nothing can be said to be certain except death, taxes - and calls from telemarketers. When a telemarketer calls, have you ever wished you could press a button on your phone that would instantly suck all the oxygen out of the room they were calling from? Of course not because you're twice as civilized as they are. Now there's an equally effective alternative. Your Phone Number is Removed from the Call List... It's something telemarketers hope you'll never hear about called the TeleZapper and it works like this. Roughly 90% of those annoying calls are dialed by a computer that connects you to the pitch person as soon as you answer. The Telezapper replies to all incoming calls with a signal that indicates your number has been disconnected. The auto-dialers used by telemarketers will record your number as disconnected and remove it from the programmed calling list. Pretty sneaky, huh? It works from all extensions on a single number, and it won't interfere with your computer or fax line. It will even work through your answering machine while you're away. Problem solved. When we figure out what to do about death and taxes, we'll give you a call. What do I get? 1 Telezapper.

4 out of 5 stars It Works As Designed........2007-03-03

This unit does not block any calls. It is not designed to block calls.

What it is designed to do is play one (or all three, user selectable by switch) of the tones of the telephone company's "not in service" signal as soon as you pick up the telephone or when your answering machine answers. For this device to work, you or your answering machine must "pick up" the phone.

If a COMPUTER placed the call to your phone (as is commonly done by many telemarketers), then the computer/software should detect the tone. Depending on the software, it will either mark your number as "out of service" for reference the next time it calls you (then delete your number after so many attempts), or it will just delete your number from the telemarketers database. After a while, you might not receive any more calls from that particular telemarketer. Of course, your number might get re-added to the database at a later time, then you will receive calls from that telemarketer again.

If a PERSON placed the call to your phone, then the person will hear the tone(s) when you or your answering machine "pick up", and your number will not be "automatically" removed from their list.

1 out of 5 stars GOOOOOOooooooooood Idea.......2006-04-07

GOOOOOOOOooooooooood Idea. But ugly unit, and very big. It does not block annoying real person sales calls, Caller ID is all you need, not this extra device. Also, cheaper to request your phone company to remove names from the list. Consumer Line list, web site offer free service to remove your list as well. WHy pay $8?
