Amazon.com Product Description
As easily as making a regular telephone call, the Packet8 DV326 VideoPhone delivers high-quality full-motion video and clear, delay-free audio. The DV326 can be used on any broadband cable or DSL IP-based connection with Ethernet, such as LANs, WANs, and the public Internet. Designed for use with a Packet8 VoIP (voice over Internet protocol) service plan, the VideoPhone will enhance your phone calls with the addition of video, while saving you money on your phone bill.

The VideoPhone routes all calls over the Internet, allowing you to call standard phones, cell phones, and other Packet8 phones with equal ease.

The DV326 VideoPhone throttles through connection speeds from 84 Kbps to 684 Kbps and can deliver 30 fps quality video at 256 Kbps connection speeds and higher. It can also be used to make or receive normal audio calls from any cell or traditional phone. Easy to set up and use, the VideoPhone has everything you need to make a video call. There is no need for an external TV, monitor, keyboard, microphone, or speakers. The high-quality CCD camera delivers crisp, colorful images, while the 30-frames-per-second video quality and up to 352 x 288 resolution provide near TV quality video. The LCD screen tilts from 23 to 90 degrees to give you the best viewing angle, while features such as picture-in-picture, privacy mode, and freeze frame provide control over the video feed.

Ports for broadband and video/audio input and output are within easy reach.

With audio/video-in and -out ports, you can attach peripherals such as a plasma screen, camcorder, or projector. Echo-cancellation and no-delay technology help deliver high-quality audio signals. A 100-number phone directory helps you to keep track of all your important numbers, while 10-number speed dial provides quick access to the most important entries.

Working together, Packet8's VoIP technology and the DV326 VideoPhone allow you to enjoy all the features that you have come to expect from traditional phones, such as call waiting, caller ID, speakerphone, personalized voice mail, and three-way conferencing, while also taking advantage of features made possible only by utilizing the latest in Internet technology. Anyone with broadband (high-speed) Internet access can make unlimited calls within the U.S. and Canada for one low monthly rate. You also get unlimited worldwide calling to other Packet8 subscribers at no extra charge.

With Packet8 service, you can manage your account online, forward voice mail to your e-mail as an attachment, and even take your home area code with you when you travel, so your home or office can reach you without paying long-distance rates. All you need to get started is the VideoPhone, an existing high-speed Internet DSL or cable connection, and a home router or gateway with an open Ethernet port. Whether in the office or at home, the Packet8 VideoPhone delivers face-to-face communication anywhere in the world. It comes backed by a one-year limited warranty.

    Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Awful customer service.......2007-06-25

Customer service is atrocious. Numerous e-mails with a simple billing question went unanswered and, like a previous poster I was billed for service for several months after I had ported my number to another provider, notwithstanding that there was no longer a phone number assigned to my Packet8 account.

Prior to transferring service I had numerous technical problems (which was why I dropped service) - STAY AWAY!!!

5 out of 5 stars Packet8 Videophone is years ahead of Vonage and other telecom.......2007-05-05

Forget the complaints. The customer service has been excellent for the 2+ years that I've had service. Video and audio quality have been great as well.

I carry the phone in a small case when I travel, just plug it into an ethernet port and it self-configures. In 30 seconds or so I'm up and running. I use it to make hundreds of calls (including my ex-wife in Canada) at no extra cost. Packet8 owns the technology and they charge less. Sure they should advertise, but if they did they'd have to charge what Vonage charges.

Keep in touch and SEE your family members, old friends...this is a no brainer.

5 out of 5 stars Great Video Phone.......2006-05-25

I have had this phone for 2 months now. Buying from Amazon was a $50 less expensive than buying from Packet8. Set-up and registration was no problem. Audio quality is exccellent-equivalent to my landline. Video quality is generally excellent. At times it slows due to my wife's basic DSL connection. I communicate daily with my wife in Mexico City, Mexico who has another DV326. Neither of us has had any problems. Our savings utilizing VOIP will be considerable-$75-$100 per month.

1 out of 5 stars Bad Customer Service.......2006-05-13

Beware, while the equipment works alright, the customer service is atrocious. I had packet8 service for several months and decided to go back to a standard landline for quality and bundling issues. I ported my number, and called the cancel my packet8 service. I believed everything was taken care of. Packet8 billed me for 5 subsequent months after the number was ported out, and even after escalating the issue to their supervisors, they refuse to give me credit for the service fees even though there was no number on the account on which to use the service.

If you choose to purchase this product, you are warned, you are dealing with an unscrupulous company that is so happy with their terms and conditions that they cannot use reasoning to make a decision.

    5 out of 5 stars VOIP Basics.......2006-01-01

I have had Packet8 for over a year now and have had the same problems that you would expect from any established telco. Meaning that I have been without service for a half hour, once the entire year. A call to their tech support was answered immediately and I was informed that they were updating some routes. Problem was fixed 30 mins later. This is our primary telephone service, and I have our box wired into the whole house so all of the lines are live. Packet8 uses the least amount of bandwidth of any VOIP carrier and the quality is better than traditional POTS. Here is what it all comes down to folks with all of the VOIP carriers. If you have a bad broadband connection, then you will have a bad VOIP experience. If you have a bad experience with Packet8, which again uses the LEAST amount of bandwidth, then you will have more problems with any of the other VOIP providers. The people who complain about the VOIP all complain about voice quality issues which has nothing to do with the VOIP carrier and everything to do with the 50 splitters you installed on the cable line that your dog regularly chews. So make sure you have a excellent broadband connection before you think of trying any VOIP service. Then get Packet8.
