2 out of 5 stars Only advantage is price........2007-05-21

Well, it's a phone. You can pick up the phone and make a phone call.

You can have two lines into the phone and press a button to switch between lines.

But, if that's all you want, just buy two $8 phones.

Problems I have with this phone:

- I bought it primarily for the speaker phone functionality. The speaker phone sucks. It is very difficult for anyone on the other end of the call to hear me.
- The caller ID will NOT work with rechargeable AA batteries.
- The speaker phone button is annoying. In order to answer a call with it, you have to press and hold the button for two seconds, then release it. If you just press it, and then see the light flash and release, the caller just gets disconnected. I have no idea why you would make a phone where the light goes on when the phone isn't actually going to connect you.
- The caller ID display is very difficult to read unless you have the right lighting and are looking at the right angle.
- This phone is made of cheap plastic.

1 out of 5 stars Worst Phone EVER.......2007-04-27

I have never placed a product review before - but this is one of those products where I would NEVER buy again. The sound quality is horrendous. We have done everything thinking maybe it was our phone line so we replaced inside wires, outlets, etc. Another phone works perfectly but this one you can barely hear over the terrible static. Avoid.

3 out of 5 stars Good overall phone - with a few issues.......2007-03-23

The "CONFERENCE" feature is useless - while you can hear each of the other two parties, they cannot hear each other at all. My other big complaint is that if I'm sending or receiving a fax on line 2, I can hear the fax tone on line 1. Makes it pretty touch to carry on a conversation. I suspect this is the same issue inside the electronics - not enough shielding between the lines.

5 out of 5 stars Good basic 2 line phone.......2007-03-13

The phone has good sound, and the speaker phone feature also works well. My only (minor) complaint is that you have to push a button for the line you want to answer (it doesn't automatically select the incoming line). Caller ID also works great and is easy to read. Easy to set up. I like that it doesn't need to be plugged into electricity in the wall (it uses 4 AA batteries to power the caller ID screen, apparently this will last for months). I already have too many things plugged in around my office!

5 out of 5 stars good regarding price.......2007-01-09

I'm looking for an inexpensive two line corded phone with caller id. I just unpacked, put in it four AA cells and go!
It works fine, have clear audio and also operates in full hands free mode.
The large display allows an easy reading.

Product Description

With today's variety of communications options, sometimes a single line just isn't enough. For these times, a GE multi-line telephone makes the ideal switch hitter. This model includes a distinctive ring for each line, indicators to show which line is in use, electronic hold, and the complete list of standard GE phone features: multi-number memory, one-touch redial, ringer volume control and more.

Amazon.com Product Description

GE's 29460 supports two-line operation and has a data port for fax, modem, or external answering device. Dual ringers indicate the line on which a call is coming, and conferencing capabilities let you talk to two parties at the same time. The phone stores up to 50 speed-dial numbers that you can quickly access with a shuttle dial. The 99-name-and-number caller ID tracks your missed calls, displayed on the backlit four-line LCD for easy reading and quick callback.

The speakerphone frees your hands for more important tasks, and the one-touch redial button is convenient when you've just remembered something important to tell a friend after hanging up. Separate volume controls for the handset, speakerphone, and ringer let you customize the proper audio levels, and the phone is wall mountable to help save desk space. GE offers a one-year limited warranty.

Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars Never quite worked right........2007-06-13

- Callers frequently complained that I was inaudible due to low volume when using the handset.

- The speakerphone-mode microphone stopped working the second week I had this phone.

- Caller ID functions were not reliable (only displaying the information 1/3 calls)

I telecommute, so a good telephone is a must! I do not recommend this phone because of the audio problems.

5 out of 5 stars cool phone for the $$$.......2006-08-15

I just bought one of these at a thrift shop for $6 and this is the coolest phone I have owned. It even interfaces with VONAGE voice mail. At $50 bucks this would be a good deal.

2 out of 5 stars Voice Mail Light Flashes Forever.......2005-08-12

I have two lines on this phone. Line 2 voice mail light works properly. Line 1 voice mail light flashes forever, and I have to power cycle the phone several times per day to clear the flashing voice mail light on Line 1. I do not recommend this phone.

4 out of 5 stars 2 line headset compatible speakerphone.......2005-07-05

The phone has some nice features but a couple of drawbacks. I had to find some unusual connectors to make my Hello Direct Virtuoso amplifier/headset work with the 2.5 mm headset jack but the folks at Hello Direct got me fixed up. An aggravating feature of the phone is the fact that the volume of the headset must be reset each time you use the phone and the headset button doesn't work as well as my older GE 2 line headset compatible phone. It would just leave the headset button flashing and you could simply depress the line button to connect and disconnect the calls. This one requires you to hit the headset button each time because when you disconnect a call it disconnects the headset button as well. Sound quality, memory features, and the caller ID function for two lines counter balance the negatives and overall I'd give the phone 4 stars out of 5.

4 out of 5 stars Decent Phone.......2004-11-01

I recently bought this phone for a home office environment. I tend to agree with some of the other posters in that the phone could be better. The LCD display is hard to read, and the quality of the speaker phone and the handset audio could be much better as well.

Most of we consumers only think of AT&T, GE (now marketed with the RCA brand on some phones), Panasonic, as well as other typical consumer brands when it comes time to add a new phone. Obviously, it "is" easier to run down to Best Buy, Circuit City, Office Depot, Office Max, or Staples. But, do some searching online, and you will find that commercial-grade phones are available which are of much higher quality, and not too much more expensive.

For example, the ITT Cortelco Colleague-series phones are of exceptional quality, and they even have a line-powered model. No AC adapter or batteries are required - just like the old-fashioned Western Electric phones when "Ma Bell" was still around! Plus, they include every feature that all of the consumer-grade phones do - and, sometimes more. Another brand is Scitec, which supplies commercial phones to colleges and hotels. They, too, are available through online distributors. There are other commercial brands available as well; just do some searching and you will find better options at prices equal to or less than $100 for an excellent quality multi-line phone.

2 out of 5 stars Not as good as I expected.......2007-05-03

GOOD
1) Handset sounds pretty decent although it's fairly loud even at the lowest volume setting.
2) Speakerphone sounds OK

BAD
1) Beeps loudly everytime you push a button.
2) Caller ID only shows phone number and not the name of the caller.
3) My headset sounds like crap plugged into this phone.

I think that I would look a little harder before purchasing this for a home office.

5 out of 5 stars Good Phone.......2007-01-06

There are very few wired two line telephones left on the market.

We like this one for the following reasons:

-Large, easty to see buttons.
-Easy to read display with brightness adjustment.
-Volume and ring tone for each line programed separately.
-Ringer can be turned off completely for either or both lines.
-Eight "one button" memory slots; eight "two button" memory slots.
-Incoming call beep tone can be turned off.
-Other features include speaker, conference, redial and mute.
-Headset capable.

There is no battery backup so, if power is lost: the clock needs to be reset (easy) the directory seems to remain; line 1 still works.

Keep the manual. Some of the programming is not intuitive.

Major weakness: the lowest ringer volume setting is still quite loud.

Product recommended.

4 out of 5 stars Only one hang-up!.......2006-08-18

Pros: Good tone quality; large, easy to read display, CID works well, buttons large, easy to use and reasonable footprint and price.

Cons: Only one: Don't laugh - this phone is hard to hang up! Really! The reciever slips in and out of the very small cradle. And, no, so far (6 weeks) I haven't gotten used to it.

Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars Radio Frequency Interference.......2007-06-08

I selected this phone because it had the features that we need for our business and because it clearly had more quality than the other phones on the market. However, when I set up the phone system, we started getting radio frequency interference (RFI). Essentially the handset cord acts as a radio antenna and we started picking up a local radio station. Imagine trying to have a business conversation while talking over hold music and you'll get the idea. After 3 calls, the tech support people admitted that RCA is aware of this RFI problem but doesn't know how to fix it. They told me that they couldn't correct the problem and to return the phones. Damn shame as this seems to be an otherwise excellent phone system. So beware if you have any radio station towers within a 5 mile radius.

1 out of 5 stars RCA 2 Line Speakerphone with Call Waiting/Caller ID.......2007-03-14

This is the worst phone I have ever owned. The sound quality is poor and if you try to dial on line 2 there is a very annoying delay when you push the buttons. This phone is not well designed,

4 out of 5 stars Strengths and Weaknesses - overall it's good.......2007-02-17

Strengths:
1. Dual-ports for additional seperate line connections
2. Volume control for speaker and handset
3. Mini-plug for standard headset
4. Operationally easy for Voice mail set-up and memory set-ups
5. Works well with VoIP features

Weaknesses:
1. Caller ID screen has only moderate light level & not tilted quite enough for easy view
2. Annoying loud beep when pressing keys - can't adjust or turn off beep
3. Handset microphone doesn't like direct breath -- creates an audible "abrasion"

2 out of 5 stars Poor Customer Service.......2006-12-20

Phone Receiver did not work when Phone arrived. It had a horrible feedback sound which made it useless. Customer Service told us we need to send the whole unit in. After sending the unit in and following up after 3 weeks they wanted to know the Tracking Number. We sent it regular mail w/o tracking number. Customer Service insisted on the tracking number. Anyways. Bottom line is that we need to wait another 4-6 weeks, but Customer Service can't locate our phone. Money spent. No Phone. Done with this company. Good products need good customer service. I consider this a bad product because I got bad customer service.

5 out of 5 stars RCA 25202 RE3-B - The Best 2 Line Small Office Phone Available!.......2006-06-20

I have purchased some of the most expensive multi line small business/office phones and have always been disappointed by lack of features or poor performance, until now.

I have been using this phone for over 2 months now, and here are the features I need/want that this phone provides:

BACKLIT LCD (LCD Lights up when any phone function is activated and remains on with plenty of time to see the data before automatically going off)

Speakerphone with good sound quality (Crisp and clear, I use the speakerphone alot and people can't believe it when I tell them they are talking to me on my speakerphone)

Speed Dial buttons (This phone has 16 "memory buttons", plus 2 additional speed buttons for voice mail on each line)

Headset jack with good amplification (Most of the 2 line phones I have used have such poor, low volume sound quality that I have had to add an external amplifier. No need for an amplifier with this phone headset jack, it is great!)

Easily dial numbers from Caller ID memory: (This phone automatically adds a "1" to calls received from outside the home area code when you use the Caller ID screen to dial them back!)

Stable angled base: (Base is designed to position the face of the phone so that it is tilted up to allow ease of use/good line of sight from a user sitting at a desk. No need to use an additional tilt arm or platform)

Here are some of the weaknesses of this phone:

Can't program the phone to determine which phone line should be the priority line. Line #1 always takes precedence over line #2 when the handset/speakerphone/Headset is accessed. (I like my Line #2 to be the predominant line, so I solved this by plugging Line#1 phone cable into the jack labeled Line #2 on the phone and vice versa. The I added and reversed new Line #1 and Line #2 labels on the phone)

Can't turn keypad tones off.

Keypad buttons can be a bit sticky. Sometimes I need to press and hold a number instead of a quick tap.

I realize my experience with this phone is quite different than the other reviewers her, could be related to maufacture date... my phone was manufactured/shipped 2/20/06.

2 out of 5 stars Poor Sound Quality.......2006-07-14

This phone has nice 2-line features but we have tried two of them in our home office and both have suffered from poor out-going sound quality.

Overall the features of this phone are very good for a home office and if GE would fix the sound issue, we would be happy to have one.

Pros:
2 independant voice mail boxes.
Can retreive VM from the handset or base.
Displays external voicemail from our phone service.
Base and handset speaker phone.
Expandable.

Cons:
Sound quality is poor (clients were complaining that our voices sounded scratchy and far away).
Poor selection of ringers.
Silly melody ringers not appropriate for a office.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars No Call Waiting/Caller ID.......2004-09-21

This phone is great quality for the price range, although the sound quality is a little less than my older similar model, the 29418 (which didn't have caller ID or LCD display).

I bought this model for the Caller ID, and because I liked the old 29418 a lot. This phone, the 29481, is slightly smaller, similar in quality, but has more electronic controls rather than analog. This is particularly noticeable in the volume control. The older phone had sliders for volume which worked great. Changing volume on this phone is done with a single push button. Each push raises the volume 1 notch, until the max. volume, and then it starts back down. So it can be a pain (requiring up to 14 presses to lower the volume one notch for example).

One major problem is lack of call waiting caller ID. I rely on this with my cordless - if I hear call waiting, I check who it is before switching over. On this phone, you don't get call waiting caller ID so you have to click over and answer the call to find out who is on call waiting.

My last complaint is that the buttons are smaller on this model, and it can be a pain to hit the right one. The speakerphone button especially, as it has a tiny redial on one side and flash on the other.

In response to a previous review, the line 1/2 buttons are the same as my old model, which held up just fine for 2 years with a lot of use. In fact, I think they have a solid THUNK to them which seems like it will last a long time.

If you are looking for a decent quality 2-line speakerphone with caller ID for under $100, this is the best pick I found after 10 hours online.

2 out of 5 stars You Get What You Pay For.......2003-09-23

A bit disappointing -- the "Line 1" and "Line 2" switches feel flimsy and likely to break; you really have to click them in to get a dial tone rather than press softly. The speakerphone function works like a 2 way radio, i.e. you can't talk and listen at the same time. If you plan to use this phone as a business phone, forget it; it's a toy. The speakerphone is useful only for listening purposes, and switching between lines causes a quick burst of static, at least on my model. For the price I suppose it's OK, but if you need a work-horse phone with durability and a useful speakerphone, this isn't it.

5 out of 5 stars A very, very good buy.......2003-06-23

I tried five different corded telephones before I finally came across this GE 2 Line/Caller ID Phone. All the others had terrible audio feedback problems and I literally could not stand the sound when using them .

This particular model is very well made and has good audio and I have finally found an acceptable phone. (Beware, a lot of the other corded phones are marginal. Someone commented on another review that all the design effort is going to cordless phones and that therefore corded phones are little more than unwanted orphans. Some people cannot use cordless phones because they are electrically sensitive. Also, the microprocessors for some corded phones can sometime cause these same people problems. In that case they should NOT use touchtone phones where the keypad is in the handset proper. It is going to be an evil day for these people when they can no longer find an acceptable phone... It is difficult enough now to find a phone that they can tolerate. If you find a good one, you better stock up with a spare or two, just in case!)

Amazon.com Product Description

With four separate lines that each use a distinctive ring, the GE 29451 is an excellent phone for small businesses or busy home offices. Intercom capabilities between two stations make it easy for staff to communicate quickly, and three-way conference calling is available at the touch of a button. A generously sized LCD panel displays the time and length of individual calls--when not in use, the panel functions as a clock.

A speakerphone and hands-free dialing allow you to continue with other office chores while waiting on hold or finishing up a conversation; a headset jack is built in for ergonomic comfort. The speed-dial directory includes space for 32 entries of 32 digits each, which supplies plenty of room for frequently dialed phone card or overseas numbers. Also built in is a data port, which allows convenient connection of a fax, modem, or answering machine. The manufacturer includes a two-year warranty that covers parts and service.

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Phones do NOT work!!!.......2007-02-28

I ordered this phone for our law office in November. After several weeks, it arrived. The new associate started after the holidays. Line two did not work. Contacted seller. His response was that he was not going to do a thing about it not working b/c we did not contact him sooner. His phones do not work and he's not not easy to work with or willing to exchange. In short, we were stuck w/a $140 phone that does not work. I would not buy from this seller again.

5 out of 5 stars SOOOO glad I finally found this phone!.......2006-11-26

I searched EVERYWHERE for this exact phone to add to the four already networked together at my place of business, and could not find it anywhere. Finally, one seller had one, and I gobbled it up. Works great with the other phones in the network and was so easy to add in. Thanks so much!!!!

5 out of 5 stars I can't kill this phone..........2006-03-24

I've had this model, plus the predecessor for about 14 (!) years and we now have 6 phones hooked altogether...both the earlier version and this version all work together & work perfectly...

I keep wanting to upgrade because I think after all these years I think I must be missing something, but everytime I check online, I see I'm only missing cordless capability. I hesitate to spend money for a new phones when these work great...

I think I hosed one the other day with an electrical spike, so I'll probably end up buying a replacement... and not a whole system!

Best decision I ever made to buy this phone system!

5 out of 5 stars Superior multi-function multi-line speakerphone.......2006-03-03

This is one of the best consumer products I've purchased. I bought a large number of the previous version/model in 1995, and have upgraded to the 29451, which has the LCD/liquid crystal display, a better speakerphone, and a few extra functions. The amazing characteristic was its remarkable intercom function - just plug in the power and the phone line jack, and you have an instant intercom. There is also a "paging" system, or broadcasting function. Quick-dialing programming, redialing, conference calling, and call transferring ( to another phone within the office) all work flawlessly. The speakerphone is excellent, although you have to allow for the fact that reasonably-priced speakerphones are not "two-way" -- the microphone transmits speech only one direction at a time; if more than one participant speaks, the sound is blocked.
