You can put handsets all over your house-in your kid's rooms or even in the garage-without all the messy wiring or complicated setup. With Panasonic's 5.8 GHz expandable phone systems, you don't need a phone jack for each additional handset-just one for the base unit. So start expanding and forget about all your wiring worries (handset model KX-TGA650B).
Panasonic's 5.8 GHz Frequency-Hopping Spread Spectrum technology operates on a different wavelength with much less traffic than the 2.4 GHz technology while maintaining the great security, incredible clarity and long range. Have a wireless computer network, or thinking about getting one? 5.8 GHz technology will not interfere with wireless networks such as 802.11b or 802.11g WiFi.
This phone system is equipped with an all-digital answering system for quick, easy retrieval of crystal-clear messages. Message operation has never been easier, with up to 60 minutes of recording time, plus features like pre-recorded outgoing message, remote operation, Tollsaver, and skip-and-repeat. And don't worry about losing your messages when the power goes out-they're stored in flash memory so they're unaffected by power failure or interruptions.
Panasonic has found a way to shorten the handset antenna while still maintaining the long range that Panasonic customers have become accustomed to. But what's even cooler is that the tip of the antenna, which lights up red, will alert you to an incoming call (or a message waiting for you1). So turn off the ringer, let the kids sleep, and never miss a call.
We've all become accustomed to caller ID and its ability to let us see who's calling before we answer the phone. Then there's call waiting, a beep letting us know there's another call coming in. But until now, you wouldn't know who was beeping in unless you answered it. With Call waiting/caller ID you get the best of both worlds. Now when you get a beep, you can see who's calling before you answer. But that decision is up to you! (Requires subscription to name-and-number caller ID/call waiting and/or voice mail services offered by certain local telephone companies for a fee. Name pronunciation may vary. Name pronunciation quality is based on names most commonly used in the U.S.A.)
Having a handset speakerphone may not seem like such a big deal-until you have to call an automated phone system. By the time you press "2" and return the phone to your ear, you missed half the next option! And when they put you on hold for ten minutes, do you really need to hold the phone? Not with the handset speakerphone. Just listen along, and press a button or pick up when it's convenient. You'll think up other great uses, like letting Grandma and Grandpa listen to their new grandchild at the same time, painting your nails as you talk to your best friend, or just being able to set the phone down while you talk.

Panasonic Cordless.......2007-07-05
Great phone!.......2007-01-18
It's okay. But that appears to be the best one can hope for in this category.......2006-12-22
We've had this phone for about a year. I think it's okay -- but given the alternatives, "okay" may be the best one can hope for.
Note that I haven't used the built-in answering machine (I find the phone company's service to be easier for my purposes) so I can't give you advice about that function.
Also, it was important to me to choose a 5.8GHz system. I have a computer network that runs primarily on wireless, and I wanted to ensure there was no conflict between the computers and the phone.
The plusses:
* Audio quality is fine. Nothing to shout about, but I can hear the other person and he can hear me. I keep wishing the volume would go higher.
* The wireless range is fine. We haven't tried to stretch it at all, but one of the cordless units is at the other end of the house, probably 100 feet from the base station (which is in my office), and I haven't had any cut-outs.
* The unique ring is a feature I'd never have sought out, but I appreciate; this way, I can tell when the home line is ringing verus the business line.
The minuses:
* It can be hard to read the screens; that can be a problem when you're trying to read the caller-ID information. I wish there were a backlight.
* The base unit doesn't have caller ID displayed; you have to pick up the handheld unit to see it or, for that matter, to scroll through the calls that were missed. The only display on the base unit is for the answering machine.
* Speaking of missed calls: oddly, the "missed call list" is separate for each handset. If I answer a call in my office, the other three handsets list the number as though nobody picked up the phone. It's a minor annoyance to have to clear these individually.
* The speakerphone is borderline. It works, but -- perhaps because there are three computers on my desk -- I have the impression that the audio quality on my correspondent's side isn't that great. I usually wind up picking up the handset to talk; my husband uses a earbud plugged into his handset.
* The handset user interface takes a bit of getting used to. Even after a year, I have to search for the hold button.
The products that you grow to love always offer a little more than you expected. The Panasonic doesn't. It does the job. It's been reliable (which is more than I could say about the 5-year-old Siemens system it replaced) and it fulfills the basic phone requirements. But I wouldn't go out of my way to say "Buy this one" -- except that I've never seen a system that I thought would be better.
Personally (in case any of the manufacturers are listening) I wouldn't mind spending MORE for a two-line phone system if it was truly professional grade. Alas, nobody seems to give me that opportunity.
Decent phone.......2006-11-10
Total Trash.......2006-09-30
While I can hear call clearly, the recipient gets very low volume and choppy reception, making it impossible to have a conversation.
Their cordless products are a total waste of time, invest in a Uniden system instead, they are the most reliable on the market today.
