Operating on a 5.8 GHz frequency, the EXAI5580 offers analog transmission that automatically scans between 20 different channels to find the clearest one. With subscription to local service, you can make use of Call Waiting Caller ID features, which notify you of the name and number of the person calling. Up to 30 names and numbers are stored in the handset's memory, along with the date and time of the call. You're even able to access this list of numbers while you're in the middle of call, making it easy to pass along contact information among friends. A three-line backlit LCD screen makes everything easily legible. The digital answering system utilizes a microchip to store messages, giving them improved clarity and a longer life. The system has up to 15 minutes of recording time available; voice prompts can be set to Spanish, French or English. You can also set the system to announce only, so callers hear your message but can't leave one themselves. The handset includes a headset jack for hands-free calling, and is hearing aid compatible. A simple volume switch allows you to adjust the setting to a comfortable level. The base can be located on a desktop or mounted on a wall. Solid Phone with Good Answering Machine.......2007-01-23

I have had this phone for a couple months now, and it has performed well for the most part. The only problem I have had is that occasionally the sound from the caller will fade to a really low level and fade back in. I haven't figured out if there is interference from another device or what. But, that has only happened a handful of times in the two months I have owned this phone.

Pros: Battery life is very good, the answering machine is very easy to use, and has clear sound. The sound is clear and crisp with adjustable volume levels (aside from the occasional fade in-out). The phone can ring from the handset and the base, but you can turn them each off too. The ringer is adjustable from the handset. The base is compact and fits nicely on my kitchen counter.

Cons: Sound fades in and out on occasion. My wife has accidentally turned the phone off several times while talking by hitting the end button with her cheek.

Overall I have been happy with this phone especially for the price. It is far and away better than my previous phone.

Horrible static, weak audio.......2007-01-05

VERY DISAPPOINTED in this phone. I have an early generation Uniden phone (without answering machine) that was a total joy.

This turkey has weak audio and ear-piercing intermittent static.
If you bother to look at earlier reviews, you will see that this is a common problem with this phone.

Avoid at all costs.

This is the worst phone I've ever used.......2006-11-18

It was time to get a new cordless phone and I bought this because it was on sale, and featured hard number buttons -- I find it more difficult to dial phones with soft, squishy buttons. Bad decision. You can't hear anyone even with the volume set to maximum, the answering system is just as bad in terms of registering voices, and apparently no one can hear me. I plugged in my headset to the jack, and they can hear me, but I can't hear them. There is static everywhere -- you can't use it in range of fluorescent lights, TVs, computers, speakers, etc. In a small house with compact fluorescent bulbs everywhere, try that! This phone is worthless and if I can return it, I will.

This phone works much better than others we've had. I highly recommend it, especially for the price.
