Panasonic KXTG2560 2.4 GHz DSS Cordless Phone with Caller ID & Dual Keypad (Silver)

Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description
The Panasonic KXTG2560S represents the next generation in cordless telephones. Using spread spectrum frequency transmission, this cordless delivers extended calling range, noticeably enhanced clarity, and increased security.

Operating on two different bands, 2.4 GHz on the base and 900 MHz on the handset, the KXTG2560S provides superior sound quality and lack of echo over a far greater range than its predecessors. In addition, frequency hopping helps this unit resist interference from devices sharing similar bands, such as microwaves. Enhanced security is another useful benefit. With 2.4 GHz of bandwidth, the KXTG2560S changes frequencies constantly, making conversations difficult to monitor and eavesdropping unlikely.

This model comes equipped with a multifunction LCD panel for caller ID, and displays the current caller's name and number while storing up to 50 entries. The Panasonic KXTG2560S also comes with a speed dial that stores up to 15 entries.

The digital speakerphone provides a convenient calling option with reduced echo and interference. Two-way paging lets you page the handset from the base unit (and vice versa), allowing for intercom communication from two rooms. Dual handset/base keypads enable dialing from either the base or handset, or both. Handset features include: flash, redial, hold, switchable tone, and adjustable ringer. The base sports an indicator light that alerts you to messages left on a voice mail subscription service.

The Panasonic KXTG2560S comes with two antennas for increased reliability, cordless access to most features wherever you are, eight hours of talk time, a NiMH battery that is fully rechargeable in seven hours, and a one-year parts- and-labor warranty.

2 out of 5 stars Sticky buttons and Out of Range errors.......2006-02-24

I have had this phone about a year and I have already experienced several "out of range" errors on the handset while I am within two feet of the base unit. This is really frustrating along with the extreme amount of pressure it takes to push the buttons, which sometimes results in double digits getting pushed by accident. Also, wish there was a redial button and everyone who uses it pushes the intercom button to end the call which makes a loud beeping noise. So obviously pushing the talk button to hang up the phone is not the normal procedure nor is it very popular with my friends who can not seem to get the hang of it, pardon the pun.
I will give the phone a thumbs up for clarity and distance as well as battery talk time. But overall I am disappointed in this Panasonic product. Wait, come to think of it I never liked Panasonic stereo equipment either. Hmmm, I wonder if Pioneer makes telephones.

3 out of 5 stars Best phone ever...then "the out of range" problem.......2005-04-25

I'll get straight to the point here:
1. No problems working the phone; keys intutitive, slight learning curve
2. It does have its quirks like keys that slip...just use it a while dialing and the "slick" gives way to a sure touch
3. Unrivaled ruggedness...it was dropped off a two story balcony onto grass. The person was still on the line.
4. Great range (see point number 3)
5. Battery good, not great, but acceptable.
6. Long life (had it working for 5 years with NO problems)

Now the bad part and it's only one thing, but a fatal one.
After 5 years of no problems, I finally got the infamous "out of range" error. After looking high and low for a solution, most everyone out there that experienced this problem had their phones replaced or they trashed them.
I had to trash mine. When speaking to Panasonic reps, they were quite surprised, at least it seemed to me, that the phone had lasted this long. But it was WAY beyond warranty and nothing could be done.
I ultimately tried shorting it out...sort of a hard reset, but to no avail.

Overall, I loved this phone. It was wonderful. But of course I can't give it anything higher than 3 stars because ultimately it broke when I didn't want it to. But I'm glad I got 5 years out of it. What more, really, could anyone ask for given our current state of disposable electronics?

1 out of 5 stars Poorly Designed -- Stay Away.......2004-12-05

Here is why I rate this phone so poorly:

1. Hard to use number pad. The "press" action requires significant pressure and the surface is slippery as well. So, I often end up dialing the same digit twice. I call many different international numbers and it is so frustrating to redial 15 digits again. :(

2. The User Interface of the entire software (Redial, Memory, Directory, etc.) is very poorly designed. It does not even have a "redial" button.

3. I often hear crackle in the signal. (Although this could be me wireless router interfering with the signal).

I was very happy with my previous Panansonic phones. But never again I am buying one without actually getting a hands-on experience with the phone. This seems to be a growing trend with electronics these days - prices are falling and quality is getting worse. I would advise you to stay away from this model.

2 out of 5 stars Panasonic Must Get Kickbacks on Their Batteries.......2004-01-09

*-*-*-*-*
Would be a great phone (4 Stars) except for a FATAL FLAW. Does Panasonic get kickbacks from battery manufacturers?

***OH*** Panasonic makes ITS OWN batteries.

BEWARE the manual's advice that this phone "may be always kept on the charging base." Its batteries are NICADs! NiCads have memories!!! So be sure to leave the phone off the charger until it requires recharging. Otherwise your battery will last only a month or two (I am totally serious---happened to me).

If you're lucky and the battery dies at the 29-day stage, AND you have every single plastic bag, twist-tie, styrofoam piece, receipt etc., take the ENTIRE unit back to the store and they have to exchange it. The store won't just give you a new battery. After 30 days, a replacement battery will cost you $20 & up. "Ching"

PS I called Panasonic and guess what? Everybody complains about this. And I thought America wasn't full of geeks. Good work everyone, now--if we can just get the MFR to improve their product.

Lasted*******Twoish years so far. Am aiming for the sky here...

Range*******Great. No static.

Durability*****Drop-resistant if you have carpets, else resist.
Buttons never wear out or through that I have seen. (Unit gives out before buttons do.)

Speakers*****Fine, both in-ear and speakerphone.
***Great feature---handset has own speakerphone, stands up nicely on flat hard surface as long as you don't touch it;
***Poor feature ---like most phones these days does not fit comfortably against my ear & lacks any but minimal curve, which mars hand-holding in my opinion.

Caller-ID*****Is some proprietary version you have to pay additional for.

Placement****One version hangs on the wall; its handset can be placed facing either in OR out and still charge, i.e. foolproof.

Flash********This feature won't disconnect the line, making multiple redialing (to win those tickets or speak with Rush Limbaugh) more not less difficult.

Maybe that's GOOD!

Redial*******This feature only works after 'Off' but does call up a list of numbers.

1 out of 5 stars Breaks when warranty expires.......2002-09-20

Do not, under any circumstances, buy this phone. When I first got it, it seemed to work perfectly. The CallerID, phonebook, you name it had me wowed. One week after the manufacturer's warranty expired, it started giving me "Out of Range" messages whenever I attempted to access the Caller ID list. Oddly enough, I could still make phone calls. Fiddling with the menus didn't help. Reading the manual didn't help. Customer support was a joke. I will never by another Panasonic piece of equipment again for as long as I live.

Amazon.com Product Description

Get a digital speakerphone, dual keypads, plus two bands of cordlesstransmission in one phone with the Panasonic KXTG2560B 2.4-GHz cordlessphone with digital spread spectrum technology. This phone operates on twoFM frequency ranges at the same time--2.4 GHz from the base and 900 MHz onthe handset--to reduce interference and increase range.

The KXTG2560B model's speakerphone allows several people to take part in aconversation at the same time, and lets you talk on the phone hands-free.Digital duplex technology reduces echo and dropout for better speakerphonesound quality. Dial a number on the phone's base unit or on the handsetwith the dual keypads.

With twin-band transmission, the phone's radio signals don't compete witheach other for air time and give you crystal-clear calls with no echo.Panasonic has also added circuitry to the KXTG2560B that resistsinterference from appliances like microwave ovens, which can add static tosome 2.4 GHz calls.

This advanced technology comes with the power of 2.4 GHz, 30-channel autoscan, and digital spread spectrum transmission. The FCC opened thehigh-frequency, short-wavelength 2.4 GHz range only in 1998. Transmissionin this range encounters less interference, giving phones like thePanasonic KXTG2560B greater sound clarity, and a range of up to 150 feetindoors. Dual antennas on the base unit add to this phone's impressiverange.

In addition, digital spread spectrum (DSS) transmission switches rapidlyfrom frequency to frequency at random at a range far above that accessibleby most radio scanners. Because of the sophisticated encryption behindmodern DSS technology, DSS cordless phone calls are almost impossible toeavesdrop on.

The Panasonic KXTG2560B also features a three-line LCD on thehandset so you can view caller information with caller-ID or caller-ID/callwaiting service from your phone company. This phone's memory stores up to50 names and numbers so you can screen both new calls and calls coming inas you talk on the phone.

Other features include a speed dialer that holds 15 numbers, avoice-mail-message indicator light with one-touch voice-mail access, and alighted handset keypad so you can dial in the dark. All this in a sleek, black design that you can place on a desk or mount on a wall.

The handset operates on a long-life NiMH rechargeable battery that fullycharges in as little as seven hours for up to eight hours of talk time. This phone comes with a headset jack, a belt clip, and a one-year warranty.
