Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Reasonable, comfortable, good buy and a little complex.......2003-01-28

Update 7/3/05:

This phone is still in use as my daily phone as of this update. It has required a replacement battery. Other than that, its been solid and held up well.

The answering machine does sound a bit dated compared to what is on the market today with the 5.8 phones.

Overall, I'm pleased and do not regret buying it!

...end update

Unlike the other reviewer of this phone. I have been pleased with mine. Sound quality rivals corded phones. The earpiece is comfortable and can provide long conversations with comfort. Caller ID is also easy to use on the lighted LCD. Lighted keypads are also nice.

Answering machine is reasonable also. Its not hifi or anything, but I'd put it in the top 75% in sound quality. It also takes a little bit to set up. I like the slow playback feature of the messages. I use it once in awhile on a person I know who talks really fast!

Responding to the range. Normally 3 houses either way is considered decent range. I don't know what the previous poster had for a criteria. If he wants to go a block, he's bound for many disappointments. I live in an apartment, so I don't need 300' of range. I did test the phone's range once. I'd say I got it to 1/4 of a mile (with choppiness). Anyone considering a digital phone of any frequency should keep in mind that digital is fickle when the signal gets weak or interfered with. Thats why the manufacturers say put the phone in a good central spot for optimum range. High intereference spots or bad locations just kill digital phones. Where as analog phones just get staticy, digital cuts out once it loses a viable signal. It either works, chops in and out or not at all. .

Anyhow, I've gotten away from my review of this fine phone. Only drawback I've really had is programming it. It does take some time with the manual to get it cooking. Thus the 4 stars. Once you have it set though, its a good working phone.

Another feature I bought it for - ringer high, low and off.

Well worth the buy and constructed well too.

2 out of 5 stars nice on the outside but has some odd issues.......2002-04-06

I have searched about every phone looking for a replacement to our old Lucent tech phone. My mom's requirements were for a phone w/ built-in caller id and an answering system, and the phone had to be wall-mountable (the lucent was the same). I found several phones that were good, had caller id, but lacked the answering system or were not easily wall mounted...we bought this phone.

The answering machine sound quality is acceptable. Not great, but acceptable. The mic is on the backside near the bottom. THe sound IS a significant improvement over the Lucent phone which had a very bad mic and fuzzy playback. Using the answering system is easy enough. The manual really is a necessity though, in order to program some of the options, because you have to know the number code for the option u want to set (# of rings, etc...) But it is not hard. Inputing names/numbers into the directory is easy.

The real weakness is the 2.4 ghz transmission. I did a range test with my mom at work and me on the panasonic. I walked around the house and when I had a brick wall and one room between me and the phone (30 feet about) the signal got choppy and cut out frequently. The signal only had good range when the phone was divided by less solid materials (wood/glass) and even then, I got just beyond 120 feet or so (3 houses) when the phone cut out again and i had to run about 60 feet back to re-acquire contact with my mom...The 2.4 ghz phones seem to all have problems with reception and this one is no different. Do NOT buy 2.4 ghz phones! I will now order a 900 mhz digital phone of either sony or Sanyo (highest ratings on range/clarity) or something. This phone is going back ...! Useless piece of junk

1 out of 5 stars Poor Answering Machine Sound Quality.......2002-03-20

The phone works ok but the answering machine sound quality is very poor. I returned it. It is definately not worth the money.

4 out of 5 stars Good product for the price.......2002-02-22

I've got the KX-TG2481S (same model, just silver), and have loved it! I have excellent reception in all locations, and though it takes a bit of practice to use the answering features, you CAN delete individual messages and keep the ones you want to save. I'm not sure why the previous reviewer was unable to figure it out.

I'm able to easily access my messages while I'm away from home, and have yet to have a single problem with a garbled or unintelligible message...

1 out of 5 stars Lasted 4 months.......2002-02-11

We were tired of cheap phones with fuzzy reception, so we wanted a top-quality phone with a lot of clarity. We sure didn't get it here. First off, it's not the clarity one would expect from a 2.4 GHz phone and the answering machine's quality is even worse. The answering machine features are not very user-friendly. I would like to be able to save certain messages and delete others - but it's all or nothing. Looking up saved numbers is not user-friendly, either. Panasonic's customer service on their website leaves much to be desired - all I want to know is if the phone is still in warranty. I don't have to wait in a phone queue, then pay to ship the phone to another state....
