VTech 9121 Green ''Jelly Bean'' Phone with Caller ID in Base

Product Description

Amazon.com Review
Make a colorful desktop statement and know who's calling before you answer. Plus, with the 900 MHz frequency band, this phone offers improved range and clarity over older phones operating on lower frequency bands.

To set up the phone, we inserted the battery pack, plugged in the AC power, and connected the RJ-11 telephone line cord. You should let the battery charge overnight before using the phone for the first time. For caller ID setup, according to the owner's manual, "When you first plug in your VT9121, you will be prompted to perform several setup procedures." We were not prompted, but we found in the manual that we could initiate setup manually by pressing and holding both caller ID scroll keys for six seconds.

We consulted the manual again to program the ringer type and set the caller ID information. These processes were straightforward if not intuitive. There is no setting for the local area code, as the phone cannot automatically dial any numbers stored in its 99-call caller ID memory.

In our tests of the VT9121, we placed the base unit in a downstairs area where walls, floors, and obstructions might interfere with signal quality. We made several calls, and the phone sounded only slightly softer than our reference corded desk phone, and with only occasional minor static, when the handset was close to the base. We could hear the onset of fuzzy reception when the handset was about 50 feet from the base. Interference became annoying at about 150 feet, but the handset continued to function intermittently until it lost contact with the base at about 450 feet. The handset resumed contact with the base at 150 feet.

Within a reasonably close proximity to the base, the VTech VT9121 sounds nice and clear. And if you'd like to add a little color to your desktop, this cordless phone makes a fine choice.
