GE 26970GE2 900 MHz Cordless Headset with Caller ID

Product Description

Amazon.com Review
The GE 26970GE2 cordless headset telephone is ideal for multitaskers. The built-in headset allows you to use this phone outside, at your computer, or anywhere around the house. It combines hands-free convenience with the benefits of a full-feature desk telephone, such as call waiting, memory dialing, and more.

The headset telephone is compact and sturdy. It has an intuitive keypad and rubberized buttons that are comfortable to the touch. The three-line LCD is easy to read. The earpiece is somewhat limited in fit, but with its cushioned earpad and adjustable microphone, the headset still felt comfortable. An additional battery charge slot in the base allows you to keep the included backup battery fully charged.

The headset telephone's caller ID feature stores up to 40 calls and is activated using the flash button. A new-call indicator lets you know which calls have not been previously reviewed in the caller ID log. To scroll through the call records, press the arrow buttons either up or down. The delete button allows you to conveniently erase any message in one easy step. You can also save numbers from the log and reformat them using the format button. You can store up to 10 numbers in memory dialing. The steps to program the numbers were intuitive and efficient, using the memory button to store and dial the numbers. There is also a pullout directory on the base for looking up saved numbers at a glance.

In our tests of the GE 26970GE2, we were able to take the phone about 100 feet from the base before hearing static and interference. At about 250 feet the static became bothersome. Voice transmission was clear and sensitive, with the headset picking up sounds such as breathing, which we found slightly annoying. We were able to take the phone behind walls and near other electronic equipment with minimal interference. The channel button helped find the best connection.

The headset telephone's other features include mute and redial buttons, battery-low and out-of-range warnings and an adjustable ringer. With an intuitive keypad and easy-to-read LCD, we appreciated the user-friendly features of this phone and the caller ID system. --Emily Bakko

5 out of 5 stars A Great Product Long Gone..........2004-04-22

I have owned two units in 10 years. Sadly, they have been long discontinued. It is a easy to use, versatile and compact little 900 MHz phone. I went 4 houses down to a neighbors and it was still in good range. Switchable (attached) headset and rotating boom mic to boot.

I have a black model which made it's usage last loads longer b/c of fingerprints, etc. It has been dropped more times than I can recall and has still endored the test of time. The dual batteries are one of the best extra features on it. Back lighting for night time display of caller id and call waiting caller id. Message indicator for in-phone answering service, large keypad even on a small unit. Excellent, just excellent.

3 out of 5 stars Gr8 Idea; Cheaply Made.......2003-05-07

I bought 1 of these about 2-1/2 yrs ago from [a local store] & loved the concept. The 1st thing 2 go was the belt clip; due 2 its flimsiness, it just wouldn't 'hold' in the correct position. Whenever I bent over during a conversation, the clip would rock in the opposite direction & the phone would fall completely off. That was it 4 the clip; from then on, I either carried the thing or stuck it in a pocket--that worked.

The next thing 2 go was the headset: the 'adjustable' portion kept coming out of its 'track' & that was that. Overall, it's a gr8 idea & very convenient 2 use. Now, if GE would just get its act 2gether & make it a bit sturdier/durable, they'd be able 2 ask 4 more... & get it, compared 2 all these other manufacturers. Lastly, incorpor8ing a modular instead of hard-wired headset would make it easier 2 replace parts (i.e., broken headset).

4 out of 5 stars This phone is great, why discontinue??.......2002-12-03

I bought this for my mom since she liked the one I had. Although hers broke after a couple years, she wants a new one and I can't seem to find them for sale anymore!

4 out of 5 stars For Business... best Phone I ever used.......2002-11-04

If you need a phone that you can walk with around the office or the house while keeping your hands free.... this is it. they are hard to find. I buy 3 at a time... They are a little sensitive (Cord gets Caught a lot) and the battery starts dying fast after using it for six months

5 out of 5 stars We have two and love them.......2002-03-02

I love these phones. I'm trying to buy another one, and ran in to this review. The extra battery is exactly what we need, when one is in the phone, the other is being charged, you can hot swap them when it beeps, and not lose your call. Great phone!
