The KX-TG2584S gives you two phones in one. This 2.4 GHz GigaRange Extreme SST cordless phone includes a base unit as well as both corded and cordless handsets. The cordless handset comes with a wall-mountable charging cradle that can be used in a room without a phone jack. Up to 50 names and telephone numbers can be stored alphabetically and quickly accessed for dialing using the phone's navigation key.
If you subscribe to call waiting and caller ID, the phone's LCD displays the name and number of incoming callers, even if you're on another call. Up to 50 names and numbers can be stored in memory for easy retrieval and direct callback. This model even includes an FSK- and stutter-compatible message-waiting indicator. If you subscribe to a voice mail service, a light on the phone will illuminate when you have new messages.
Ordinary dual 2.4 GHz cordless phones transmit and receive signals at the same time within the 2.4 GHz band, causing noticeable interference when the signals cancel each other. To avoid this, these phones usually transmit and receive under restricted bandwidth, a condition that reduces their power and range. Panasonic's digital spread spectrum (DSS) time division duplex (TDD) technology enables this phone to use its full bandwidth for optimum power and range.
Panasonic's diversity antenna incorporates two omnidirectional antennas, which increase signal sensitivity and enhance sound quality while improving reception. Advanced error correction software helps maintain signal integrity at greater distances. The phone's digital duplex speakerphone circuitry helps reduce echo and dropout effects, which are common in conventional speakerphones.
Dual keypads allow you to make calls from the base, the handset, or a combination of both, even at the same time. A two-way intercom lets you communicate between the base unit and the handset.

Top quality, multi-featured cordless phone.......2002-10-30
The instrument is silver and grey plastic and rubber, but feels durable and well-made. The features all work as advertised. One criticism others have leveled at Panasonic phones is difficulty in initial set-up and operation. It is slightly complicated, but if you can operate a computer, run a DVD player, or make toast, it is not all that hard. Read and follow the directions...
Some have also found the sound quality lacking-- I have NOT found this to be the case, it is excellent, as is this phone's range. You may have some interference if you operate the phone near an in-use microwave oven, or if you have a wireless home computer network operating at 2.4GHz. If you do, try to find a Digital Spread Spectrum(DSS) phone operating at 900MHz and buy that instead.
The key to the sound quality is not the frequency, but the DSS technology. Panasonic products generally have above-average reliability. Once you narrow down your choice of models, try to find them in a store to see how they feel. Our previous phone (the Sony) did not feel all that comfortable against the ear, but we got used to it. Spend some time with the phone to see how it would feel during a lengthy conversation. ....
