Uniden's DCT 648-3 comes with a number of useful features, including two extra handsets with their own charging cradles, expandability (one additional DCX640, sold separately), and an all-digital answering machine. Caller ID/call waiting compatible, the DCT 648-3 can store up to 100 incoming numbers, while the display-and-dial feature lets you easily scroll through the list of calls and dial with the touch of a button. An autoscan feature automatically detects the best channel available, and handset and ringer volume controls allow you to easily adjust the phone's settings to your liking.

The DCT 648-3 is headset compatible (a belt clip is provided for hands-free operation), while a room/baby monitoring setting lets you hear audio from another handset location. Feature Rich!!.......2007-07-06

I bought this set for two friends over the holidays and they love them! I've used theirs many times and was impressed so I bought a set for myself. I have recommended it to many other friends since then. The amount of features in this set go on and on. Besides being a cordless phone it can also be used as a Room/Baby monitor as well as two-way radios away from home. You can also use the handsets as an intercom system in your home or to transfer the phone call between handsets. Most options are programable from any handset and you can listen/clear your messages from any handset. You can also copy your phonebook between handsets. And a handy little feature when you want to be left alone... one touch "Do Not Disturb" that will prevent any handset from ringing with an incoming call. This is just a few of the things that impressed me. The only thing that I noticed that may be a problem is that sometimes the caller sounds a little muffled. I'm not sure if that is a problem with this phone system or not tho.

What Can I Say?!.......2007-05-31

Purchased the phones because I wanted a different look and more features than what my old Vtech offered. The feature I required was the "Do Not Disturb" (DND). I hate hearing phones ring all over the house! So having the ability to turn off the ringer is great, also. The feature that I enjoy the most is the selectable ringtones, which can be assigned to callers - nice!

While small in stature, the isn't a gawdy piece of furniture - it blends perfectly. The orange display is great - no squinting here. Lastly, being able to access the voicemail from any phone is wonderful. For me, this a great phone to have. Thank you.

Best residential phone I've ever had..........2007-05-13

My first cordless, right out of college, freshly married and walking the aisles at Best Buy...was an old Uniden 900-Mega hertz. It was the best and we used it for years. It lasted longer than my marriage! :-) I then tried a Sony and a V-tech, a blond and a red-head too... but, for a phone, I'm right back with Uniden. Superior clarity, long-range coverage and a very good price. Highly recommend. Will update this when I find a sweet girl as fine as this phone! =-)

This phone set works just like advertised. The buttons for the answering machine are a little hard to see, so I stuck labels on it, pointing to "play" and "delete", but other than that, I'm very pleased with this entire system.

I didn't have a cordless phone until last year, when I had surgery and was confined to crutches and the sofa for several weeks. I kept tripping over my phone cord, and a visiting friend told me to get a Uniden cordless phone system. It was - and still is - wonderful!

I bought this particular DCT758-4 for my elderly parents and just installed it yesterday. They, too, have never had cordless phones. Also, they have 3 phone jacks in their house, but could use at least 4 more, so they wouldn't have to rush from one room to another just to answer the phone. They were stubborn (!) not to learn, but I called them from my cell phone, so they could test how it works. The "Auto Talk" feature was my saving grace; this feature automatically answers the phone without having to press any key. Success! HIGHLY recommend!

Uniden DCT758-4 Expandable .......2007-05-12

well, i tried cancelling my order which i tried to immediately the same day but i was unable to do so online, contacted customer service and the order was already being process, one big plus point and was received within days of ordering, another plus point for amazon.
the reason i wanted to cancel was that a local electronic store Staples had the 5.8mhz instead of a cheaper price.
after receiving my item in which the base antenna was disconnnected, had to tape it but on, i kept the item and it is being used.
except for the few annoying instances as unable to cancel right after ordering and that i had to receive the unit with a small defect but works fine otherwise.

perfect for eldery or after surgery.......2007-05-12

This phone is fantasticly easy to set up and use. The fact that you only need a phone line for the base unit is another plus. The extension units just plug into a electrical outlet. I live alone and recently had back surgery. I put the base unit in the living room, one in my downstairs bathroom and one in the kitchen. The last one I put in my bedroom. The only improvment that I can see for this phone is that the do not disturb have a set time limit such as one hour two hours, etc. I would recommend this phone to everyone especially the elderly and those who have surgery.

I bought this to complete a 4-phone system, the maximum it'll take.
The sound quality is great, nice choice of ringtones. You can clone the addressbook across phones (but it would be nice if this was automatic)
Only oddity is that the addressbook and caller id share memory, so you can't add a new number until you clear a few entries in the caller ID

I purchased this accessory handset to enhance/expand the free phone system I got when signing up for the Sunrocket phone service. The free system consisted of a base unit and an additional phone. I bought two of the expansion units. Set up was quick and easy. The system has plenty of bells and whistles including direct talk between units, paging, nice display, excellent range, room monitoring, caller ID, distinctive ring, phone book, lots of ring tones and a single programmable button for connecting with the service provider's voice mail system. This is an very reliable system with no adverse quirks or cumbersome set up. It rates high in ease of set ujp and use and for the price this has been an excellent performer.

We have had our handsets for a while. I love that you can see caller ID from any handset, instead of just one phone. I really like being able to call any handset from any other handset. We have four total. Our problem is keeping the right one in the right base, or not walking off and setting one in another room-not good when you are upstairs and the phone rings, and all the phones are downstairs! Once this happens a few times, you train yourself to stop doing that! The handsets have worked great for us.

May be I got a defective unit from Amazon, but the speakerphone used to sound crackled for a few months and then it totally stopped working. Otherwise it is a great add-on to your exisiting Uniden phone system.

Not as perfect as expected........2007-06-27

I was lead to believe by the Ad from the seller (so I doubled my order) that I would be able to link a total of eight (8) phones to each other. But when I called the manufacturer they said the Max was only four (4). If the dialing was not so slow and the sound quality (clarity) of each handset was better, I wouldn't feel that I had spent too much "new" money for an 80's level of phone.

I would recommend that you call the seller (if they are a dealer) then you will have the opportunity to return the product when it does not meet up to your expectations.

I love the fact that we now have phones all over the house. No more running from room to room looking for the phone. I love the way you can personalize the phones similiar to a cell phone. I also love the fact that we didn't need to have any phone lines installed in the house for so many phones. The calls come in clear and crisp and we never have any problems with them. I also use a headset when I take calls and haven't had any problems that way either. I highly recommend this product.

Uniden Expandable Phones.......2007-03-26

Other user of these phones have detailed some of idiosyncracies of these phones, so I won't. Let me say, however, that these phones were easy to program and work flawlessly. We have had them in our house for awhile now and have been entirely satisfied with them. One feature we especially like is the ability to assign differnet ring tones to each handset. Sure is nice to have the phone in the bedroom, for example, to ring with such a soft, soothing tone. Overall, these phones are great!

I think you will be very satisfied with this 4 phone unit, I know I absolutely love it. I'm a gadget freak LOL and the only dissapointment (minor) was this system does not have the DND button ( the companion system with a keypad base does--however you can stop the handset from ringing (without the callers knowledge) by simply pressing the red handset icon on the handset itself as it's actually ringing --- and peace returns ;) The features are great- program one handset and then just copy it to other handsets totally or by single entry, transfer a call to other handsets, use as a 2 way walkie talkie, day and time and CID display on handsets, room monitor-(it will ring first-then monitor), led on handset that lights for a visual message indicator (along with audio notification pre dialtone), small unobtrusive units, handset locator (YEAH!!!), and although we have many phone jacks in the home, I LOVE not having to use them and putting the other 3 phone extension sets anywhere I want! Speakerphone and handset audio quality is very good, range is fine (my base unit is on 2nd floor and extensions placed on first floor and basement with out issues. I also love all the customizeable ring tones -- I know immediately (without having to look at callerID) wether a caller is welcome or an intrusion :0 ! Lol for example- all family members have home sweet home ringtone :), and I picked the annoying (to me) Flicker ringtone for unknown incoming non phonebook calls.Telemarketers will NOT win with the help of this phone hehehe. I have had Uniden phone systems in the past and have NEVER had a problem with their quality. Sadly other "better" known brands(**&*, NonnorthBell) have been terrible.
All in all I feel this is a great system at a reasonable price.

I have had my phone for a little over three years and after 100 bumps and falls with 4 children and 2 teen chatter boxes the charger is on its last leg. So I decided to do a search over the internet to find out witch store might still carry this brand and/or make and model (because like I've said it's been a few years)and my trustie Amazon carries it. Unless you have a defective phone this phone should last, and will stand up to the children trips and them allowing it to fall.

I have always bought and liked Uniden phones. Tried this one based on Consumer Reports recommendation and because I wanted caller ID. AWFUL reception - too much background noise and you cannot hear the person on the other line. Turn the volume to high and you get feedback from your own voice. Good range (which is useful in finding the perfectly quite place in your house to finish your call!). Stay clear!!!!!!!

I think it will serve our needs nicely, however I have not mastered everything on it as yet. Just haven't taken the time to do so. I already think the reception is better on this one than on the previous phone we had.

Not the way you want your phone to sound.

I thought the problem might have been the creative wiring I did to get a jack where I wanted it, but I moved it to a jack that provides an excellent connection to another phone and got just as much static and just as little sound, if that makes sense. Channel scanning didn't help at all. I could have lived with the static except that my own voice comes through rather loudly. Thus, when I have the volume turned up high enough to hear the other party's fuzzy little voice, I'm practically whispering so I don't blow my ear out.

We finally replaced this phone and I'm not even going to give it away. Into the trash it shall go.

I bought 2 of these on the basis of Consumer Reports good review. They have been in use several months and no problems have surfaced. Very nice phones for around the house, range is not very good, around 100ft. Sound is clear, there is a volume control. Good basic phone.

I have this phone for a laboratory with multiple rooms and offices. It works great. Signal is good, phone size works well. Best part is conferencing or paging other rooms. Transferring calls is easy too. Very pleased.

An excellent value for four handsets. So far clear sound for me........2006-11-03

I just got this set and have been messing around with them for a couple of days, and have found them to be really nice for my purposes. So far, I have had a clear signal, and the sound quality of the handsets seems fine to me, and my callers have said it sound clearer on their end as well (maybe my old phones were that bad). Yes, these phones are smaller, almost like cell phones of a couple of years ago. Their is a model above this set that has an answering machine with it (about $10 more). I like this set also because each handset has built in speaker phone, you can answer two handsets at a time, and you can page/intercom the other phones. They also have a room monitor where you can call another handset and it will turn on like a baby monitor, so you can listen in/or yell at somebody. You'll find it hard to beat the overall value of this set in both features and price, as well as the number of handsets. Available online at amazon, and at some of the big chain retail stores if you like to see things in person.

Great value but some useability issues........2006-05-17

I bought the Uniden DCT646-4 2.4 GHz Digital Expandable Cordless Phone System with 4 Handsets as an impulse item and really loved having all those handsets around everywhere. I was a little disappointed that the batteries were the soldered, heat shrinked package, rather than generic NiMH ones - but that's a quibble. The phones performed about as well as my older, larger 2.4 Ghz Unidens which means:
1) Audio quality is moderately poor, with rolled off treble and a dark sonic character. This was most noticeable when I first started using Unidens (after my older Sony and Panasonic phones died). After a while this didn't bother me any more. I used Unidens for years without noticing the sonics until I got Panasonics again and was struck by the better sonics. The screen and software are better on the Unidens, though.
2) The software is pretty good, once you learn that * toggles the area code and the "1" prefix on and off in caller-id. Each phone ends up with its own phonebook, but at least you can copy them around.
3) Ergonomics are a bit dicey. These phones are SMALL! Looking at the tiny cell phone-like keypad I thought my big ham fingers would have trouble dialing. From time to time that's true - but for the most part it didn't get in the way too much. I have trouble sometimes getting the earpiece on my ear. That's a problem with most modern phones, though. These aren't much worse than the others. I guess the sleek styling trumps the ergonomic benefits of having a decent earpiece these days.

Why am I writing about these phones in the past tense? New fluorescent ballasts under the kitchen cabinets where the base station is, and a WiFi repeater combined to make 2.4 Ghz phones too noisy. I was able to use 5.8Ghz phones instead. I haven't sold these. I figure I might use them elsewhere in the house somehow. For folks who can use 2.4 Ghz phones these ones are really just fine if you can live with the tiny size. Given their performance and the huge number you get for the price (4) they are a bargain.

This phone does not deserve 1 star! I wish I could give 0. I should have read the reviews that others have written here before I bought this.

I can not hear the other person talking even if I stand right next to the handset. The volume goes up and down and there is some static noise. Changed all channels on the phone. Piece of junk. Don't buy this. Don't waste your money.

I am returning it back now. What a hassle.

DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE.......2007-04-18

I bought this phone 6 months ago and I wish I had kept the recept so I could return it. First off, you can not keep it on the charger or the battery will only allow you to talk for 20-30 minutes before dying. When it dies it will give you a couple of beeps notice then it shuts off. If you do not hang up before it shuts off then your phone line is unusable. You actually have to unplug the phone from the phone line just to recieve or call on other phones. I have never heard of this happening before and my friends and family are tired of talking to me only to hang up on them without warning because my phone is beeping and I know I only have a few seconds to hang up or risk losing my phone line for hours. I would have given this phone zero stars if I could have. I would recommend spending a few extra dollars and go with another expandable system. Don't make the same mistake I made.

I like these phones.
The reception is good.
The only drawback is that if you pick up one phone, the other one cannot connect to the base, but that may be typical to the phones which share one base.
Other than that, the phones are great and the sound is good.

These are terrible phones. They crackle and have a large amount of background noise. The Caller ID menu does not display well either. Maybe they interfere with our wireless network. There is no clear channel on them. They are pretty much unusable. I didn't pay much for them but it was all wasted.

Standard featured cordless phone with caller ID. Wished volume went up a little more. Sometimes picks up bursts of interference - not sure if the phone is at fault.

I was going to buy this phone at Target, but they were all out, so I ordered it from Amazon. I received it quickly and was up and calling within 24 hours. I am happy with the reception and overall performance of the product. When I am on the far side of my house, I do experience some static, but it's much better than my prior Uniden 900mhz set.

Great Phone.......2007-05-07

This is my first Uniden phone and I have to say it's great, easy setup, except for the part of language, my native language is Spanish, when you are configuring the main unit, you can listen the instruction by the machine but the last item to configure is the language, so after you configure all you can listen in another language than english. That`s important just for the non-english user.

The signal is nice, i Tried like 100 mts far and still can speak fine, even when you live some floors up.

The handsets look very nice, the lcd screen is clear but th ID Call show the number calling just in the first ring, after that show just "Incoming Call".

Buy this item with confidence it pay every cent and more.

Small Phones, But Good Reception.......2007-07-07

I rated this a 4 simply because the phones are so small. However, that's not a total drawback. Small also means lightweight, and each phone came with its own belt clip, so if you are carrying one around, I guess small is better.

We also ordered earphones for our phones, which does improve the situation of having a phone so small that the earpiece and mic can't be at the proper places at the same time. I know this because we have one unit without a headset, and I have had that difficulty when using that one. We have two units upstairs and one in the basement, and they all work well.

All in all, they have tons of features, and aside from the smallness, they are terrific little phones at a bargain price.

Affordable phone set, good clarity........2007-07-01

We've had it for about six months now and the experience has been positive overall. However, the display could be a bit bigger, unless your eyesight is perfect. Also, the light on top of the antenna on one of the handsets quit blinking recently, which made us doubt if this is a reliable product.

I bought it just a year ago. Great audio and great battery length. After a year only one of the three headsets has audio coming in. If someone calls and you press "talk" on the other two headsets, you will not hear anything but the person on the other line will hear you. Disappointed.
