Great phone - terrific price.......2007-02-20
I had a GE 2.4 Ghz phone that I have had for years. Was really happy with it. So happy that I bought 3 more for my home. So why did I buy this one? Well I got a wireless network, and noticed that I would periodically lose my signal. The cable company first said it was an outdated modem. OK, $69 later, the problem was still happening. Then they told me it was the wireless router. Fortunately I did some checking before purchasing a new one, and found out the problem was caused by neither the modem or the router. It was the 2.4 GHz phones. I was told to purchase a 5.8Ghz and the problem would go away. Since I had been happy with the other GE's I decided to stay with the same company. I found the phone on sale for $14.99 and ended up buying 4 of them to replace the others. Problem solved-my internet connection has not been interrupted once since I got these new phones and the reception on this new phone is awesome.
I absolutely recommend this phone!
better than any other phone i've tried.......2006-05-02
I bought this phone because my other phone was getting some bizarre interference from my dsl connection, it kept "ghost-ringing" (ring once and disconnect, no caller id registered on the screen) it drove me crazy! The phone company told me to try a different frequency phone, so I got this one and the ghost ringing stopped. (note: this is the nutshell version of the story--I tried different cords, different outlets, several other different frequency phones but nothing worked)It also has great reception and holds its charge better than any other phone I've owned. Its not perfect because you can accidentally hit the on-off button with your chin if you hold the phone against your shoulder, but other than that its a good, no-frills, phone.
Don't buy if you have wireless b or g network - Not a true 5.8 phone.......2006-03-11
I got this phone all excited to finally have a phone that would not interfere with my wireless network. Boy what a disappointment. I've since read (from secondary internet sources anyway) that lots of "5.8 GHz" phones also broadcast in the 2.4 GHz range. I looked in the documentation that came with the phone to see what frequencies the base station and handsets broadcasted from, and there was NOTHING on the subject. Wonderful.
TO ANY MANUFACTURERES OR VENDORS READING: Don't you get it!? Many People are buying these 5.8 phones because they want a phone that won't interfere with their wireless network. Tell us straight up if this is the case or not, instead of letting us buy the phone and then return it. Headaches all around for everybody.
Do yourself a favor, buy a different phone..........2006-03-04
I bought this phone because my previous portable phone (a Uniden 2.4 mHz) was interfering with my wireless network. I figured I would buy the cheapest 5.8 mHz phone that I could find with caller ID. I assumed that even the cheapest phone would be able to fulfill my modest needs (namely, to make and receive phone calls)...big mistake. This phone is by far the most infuriating piece of garbage I have ever owned. For whatever reason, the numbers do not always "register" with the phone when you dial them. The screen display will show all ten digits of the number you have dialed, but the phone will not dial, or you will get a "this number is incomplete..." message, etc. On average, I had to dial four or five times in order to get the call to go through. I tried dialing slow, dialing fast, and pretty much anything else I could think of. I exchanged the phone at the place I bought it (not Amazon), and had the same problem with the replacement phone. End of story, don't buy this phone.

Poor phone -- Terrible Voice Quality, Bad Range, Terrible Customer Service.......2006-04-21
The voice quality on this phone is terrible, so bad that people on the other end of the line couldn't understand what I was saying. The range is also really poor -- at 1 room away (about 20 feet), I'd start hearing a ton of crackling and static. To make matters worse, GE's customer service was terrible -- unresponsive, rude, and totally unhelpful.
Save yourself the $$ and a lot of frustration -- don't bother with this phone.
Lousy phone. Even Conair makes a better phone........2006-02-23
A fine example of sloppy product design and engineering, this phone is a complete failure even for its price range. The speaker is too weak - even at full volume, most phone calls are a strain to hear. (Even my cheap AT&T phone from the early 90's has a louder speaker.) The microphone is weak as well. The Caller ID and Message Waiting menus are slow and clunky.
The WORST part of this phone is its ergonomics. The TALK/END button protrudes just under the earpiece so that if you accidently lean the phone a little toward your face during a phone call the phone will hang up!
