chose to install the drivers, but guess what -- the setup program just
froze. Come on, how hard is it to write a proper setup? I should've let

I use this web camera with my toshiba laptop for online video chats with my friends. I have a regular internet line from Verizon.
In Skype and Yahoo Messenger the camera works just great!
It also comes with a microphone and ear phone included.
I enjoy it myself and highly recommend it!

Not Bad.......2007-03-17

I love the picture quality. It's quite clear and sharp - better than more expensive webcams that I have seen. It isn't fuzzy in the slightest. However, when using it over the internet (as most folks do with webcams), the lag is rather bad. If you speak, for example, you'll see your lips move a good 30 seconds to a minute or so later. Though, it does come with this spiffy "Orb" feature. You can quite easily set it up so that you can see pictures on your webcam from any internet connected computer at any time, or set it to alert you via email if anything moves in the room it's in. Also, the little clip holds the webcam on a laptop quite securely, and though it doesn't turn left or right, you can easily place it left or right on the laptop. Overall, I'm quite pleased with it.

Not that great.......2007-02-12

It's small and the picture quality is ok. One main problem is the video lag, but that might be with all 15 fps cameras. I hate the fact that it needs all this installation software though. It should just plugin and work, especially with Vista. Bundled software and unnecessarily complicated drivers annoy me. Also the clip is too small, I have a thinkpad t60 and it's not big enough to fit over the top edge. I'm going to return it.

No autofocus - poor picture quality.......2007-02-07

third party software bundle rquires two resident programs sitting in you memory (it will get during installation into your system registry and load every time you start your PC) they say it's free of charge but as you know there is only free cheese in mousetrap.
major cons is not existing autofocus. tiny focus adjusting ring is awkward to operate and at the end you still can't quite put it in sharp focus.
cable is like 1.5 ft long. i guess it's ok for laptop but if you wanna use it for something else - just forget it, clip is also good for laptop screen only and not for anything else.
automatic light adustement is just plain sucks. manual is a bit better but if you have to re-adjusted evry time you wanna use your webcam it becomes pain in the a**.
i have two a4tech cheapper webcams without any third party useless software and with autofocus and they are way better than creative. SHAME ON YOU CREATIVE! i thought you could do better!

DOA poor customer service.......2007-01-17

Unfortunately for me, I received this camera DOA. I have been in contact with creative for over two weeks and they still will not issue me an RMA. They even told me, after I had registered, that the serial number I gave them could not be confirmed??!! By the time they do, I fear my camera will be out of warranty :-( If you get this camera and it works, then I would say enjoy, but if it doesn't, don't count on Creative to get it working for you.
Follow-up: I did finally manage to get an RMA and about a month after I sent it in I did get a new camera. I am unsure whether I want to open it and try again, or just get rid of it. The software (which I had installed originally) really slowed down my computer especially at startup. I have Windows XP. Has anyone else had that problem?

Easy setup.......2007-01-02

I just bought this video cam. Very easy to set up. Importantly for me, this Creative cam works fine with Yahoo Messenger.

On the downside, wish it was auto focus, but manual focus probably has some advantages that I'll figure out along the way.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The main reason I went with Creative rather than Logitech or Microsoft is that my company owned work computer does not have SP2 (and the network administrator will not allow it to be installed) which appears to be required for all Logitech and Microsoft cams.

The smart tracking that suppose to keep you in the center of the frame regardless of your movements does not work always as expected. I had seen others criticize the low light capabilities of this camera, so I was not disappointed when I got mine set up. Since our main use for the camera is video conversations with the kids and grandchildren, the quality of our picture is not a big issue; we just turn on some more lights if we want them to get better definition on our wrinkles and grey hair. The separate microphone is a little less convenient than those with the built-in mics, but I think we are not having the feedback problems our kids have with their's which have the built-in mics. Overall, this set up works just fine for our purposes.

I have had my camera for over 2 years and it still works great. The image quality is good and frame rate is adequate. I use it primarily for video conferencing on msn messenger with friends and family abroad. Seeing the person adds another dimension to the conversation, makes it more personal. Installation is simple, you don't need the cd as windows xp recognizes it. Now for the flaw, the stand. The stand folds to sit in 3 locations: open to sit on top of the monitor and point down, folded to sit on the table top and point up, and semi folded to sit on the screen of a laptop or lcd monitor. Although versatile the stand doesn't provide enough stability, it topples over easily as the head and cord coming from it are too heavy for the relatively narrow base. Creative should have made the base wider.
Overall a great camera but needs more stability.

Overall,

I think this camera is worth the price as the color reproduction and image quality in natural light is amazing. As with all relatively cheap webcameras, however, it does have problems maintaning the proper contrast ratio with artificial or darkened rooms. However, if your planning on using this with a good overhead lighting source, shouldn't even be an issue.

My only other gripe is that the camera is so light that the cord pulls it and knocks it over and makes it difficult to adjust.

Overall, well worth the price.

Box suckered me in... (1024x768 images, 640x480 video, etc)...
Dunno if it's age now or what (1yr old?), but the quality sucks and it seems to be getting worse! Always did poor in low light, now it's really grainy and the colors are faded. I suggest staying away and, if you want a budget buy, the Logitech QuickCam is better.

XP Home vs XP Pro.......2004-02-04

The problems that andyfano stated were ONLY for Windows XP *PRO.* He said it worked for Windows XP Home. So, could future reviewers please specify if it's Home or Pro? It is NOT the same thing.

As for my own, I found the picture clear and could make it work fairly well in low light settings. Could be smoother, but it's all I need for video messaging. Install was fine on an XP Home computer, but I would be interested to know if anyone else has problems on Pro as another member of my family with Pro is looking to get one.

All in all, cost vs. benefit is great.

Good Product.......2003-09-14

I read a number of reviews and it seemed that the biggest complaint was with the installation. I don't know why. I am running Windows XP Home on a Compaq laptop and it installed fine. I had no error messages about the drivers not being compatible with XP. It took maybe 10 minutes and I was up and running. I have never used a webcam before, and am certainly not much of a computer expert so that says something about how easy this thing is to install and use. I'd definitely recommend it.

Microphobe when using in chat or anywhere when talk all that comes out is a very extreme static, I will never reomend this product to a friend as itis junk luckly wince Logitech requires a credit card to replace it instead of trust which I guess is long gone in the US I have a frien who will put this back on th shelf and give me a refund so I may do as I please in repurchasing what I wany. Creative Labs WebCam Pro eX.......2004-04-16

I recently purchased a WebCam Pro eX. It's the first web cam I've ever used or owned. I don't know of any others since I haven't used them. Some observations:

Pro: Good picture quality in adequatly lit conditions. CCD sensor. People on the other side of the ocean have told me that this web cam gives has good picture quality, but needs proper lighting source. Good Color quality. User can adjust brightness, saturation and contrast levels in accordance to the time of day. Software provided is easy to use. Comes with a microphone. Has a wide choice of resolutions - up to 1024 x 768. Works extremely well with Windows 2000. I don't use Windows XP, nor do I have any desire to upgrade to it, due to hardware compatibility problems this operating system has, and problems in general. If people have problems with this webcam using XP, it isn't because Creative produces poor drivers or a bad product, it's just that XP (Home or Pro) isn't a very good operating system. It's a poor O/S overall and I've had nothing but problems using it.

Cons: No digital zoom. It's difficult to save compressed Windows Media Player files with low frames rates without encountering problems with video and voice synchronization. Perhaps someone can tell me how to correct this problem. Picture quality degrades under poorly lit conditions. Camera requires a secondary light source. Micorphone is so-so. I use another headset instead.

my experience with this webcam.......2004-04-06

(...)Here are my comments:
The Good:
1. The color is very vivid compared to the 3-year old Creative webcam I had before.
2. Can be cliped on the laptop. The clipping mechnisim is very simple, and it worked for my laptop (a Dell Inspiron).

The bad:
1. Since the base of the camera also serves as the clip, it's very very light (just two piece of plastic), so sometimes it has trouble staying put.
2. On Windows XP, I had trouble with the control application that comes with the webcam (the application that let you take snap shots, take the video, etc). Upon exit of the application, the program crashes. However, I didn't experience any problem with the driver, so the cam works fine with Yahoo and MSN messenger on XP. I don't know if this has anything to do with an earlier version of the Creative application (for my old webcam). I ended up uninstall the old program but haven't had the chance to re-install the new one yet. So I don't know if this problem will go away. I checked Creative's website, there is no software patch available. I didn't have this problem with Win 2000.
3. Had a minor problem when used on my Win2000 machine which has a 4 port D-Link USB hub. When attached to one of the port, it complained serveral times about not enough bus bandwidth. I switched to a different port and the problem seemed go away.
4. Performance under low light condition is somewhat below my expectation.

In general, this is a so-so camera. Not as good as advertised, but then what do you expect from 59 or 79 dollars?

I use the Aiptek HyperVcam Mobile and Creative EX Pro. The price is about 30% difference with Aiptek the cheaper one.

Creative is better at still pictures. However, the software that comes with it will show you a different picture during preview from the one it actually captures. e.g. The preview is darker but the actual saved picture looks okay.

Aiptek captures a poorer still picture but it is WYSIWYG and it has auto-focus.

The video for these 2 cameras looks the same to me. But for the difference in price, I rate Aiptek as value for money.

This small baby is my fifth webcam.

Easy to install in Windows XP. I do not follow the instruction on the manual. Plugin the webcam first, XP reports there is a new device, insert CD-ROM. Do not follow the autoplay of CD-ROM, let XP search the driver, and it's done, 2 minutes is enough.
If u still want to install other software, insert cd-rom again, but unchecked the driver option, and u will install the left.

The picture is clear and sharp, color saturation is good, very stable to stay on my laptop LCDs. Creative has a good product.

It's far better than Logitech Quick Cam Express, and Intel cheapset one. For my point of view, picture quality is better than logitech Pro 4000, which is the comparable product of this one.

great little webcam.......2007-02-02

Love it for its small size and nice design. Rotates 180 and auto flips the image. Better than built-in...you can point it in other directions easier, i.e., without pointing your whole laptop. The motion detection module in the included software is fun. You can lock your screen, leave your office, and catch your coworkers helping themselves to your stash of chocolate. I couldn't get it to work w/ Mac, but it doesn't claim to. Box says designed for XP, system reqs also list Windows 98 SE, Me, and 2000. I'm using it just fine w/ 2000.
The "jumping" someone else complained of is probably from the face tracking utility, which is easy to turn off, and I agree not ready for the real world.
I only wish it had a digital zoom, but that is a minor thing I'd use rarely anyway.

I really like this camera because it's compact and saves me a lot of space compared to my old one. It's clear and none of what the previous person's "jumping" happened to me so maybe it depends.

Great design, it is definitely very compact. Installation was simple however the image on mine "jumps" every few seconds. This is very annoying to the other person. I contacted Creative support and they were not very helpful. Unfortunately, this one is going back....
