The large number of channels and privacy codes give users several communication options, ensuring that they can almost always talk with friends or family via an exclusive, uninterrupted signal. The channels are easy to find thanks to the channel scan feature, which browses for active channels while you watch, and the channel monitor function, which listens for weak signals on a given channel. To transmit on a GMRS or FRS channel, a user merely presses the PTT or power-boost button while the scan is paused. The power-boost button expands the radio's range by emitting maximum power when a GMRS channel is detected.
Additional features include a backlit LCD display, keypad lock, and a choice of five different call tones. The selectable tones are ideal for groups with several radios, as it lets users differentiate between calls. The radios also include a pair of belt clips for efficient transport, along with two charging cradles and accompanying NiMH battery packs. Each radio also comes with a battery-level meter on its display to indicate the power level.
