Motorola T250 2-Way Radio (Shadow Anthracite)

Product Description

Amazon.com Review
Looking for a great way to stay in touch while hiking, skiing, camping, or shopping? With an impressive two-mile range, the TalkAbout 250 is one powerful two-way radio, sporting 14 channels with 38 privacy codes to help block out unwanted messages. The striking design makes the radio's exterior as cool as its features.

In our tests, we encountered no problems with interference or with finding free channels. The reception was clear, without too much static. We especially liked the scan lock, which scans through the channels until it finds an active channel. Scan lock automatically locks in the channel, letting you listen in discreetly or talk with other parties.

Most of the buttons are intuitive enough to figure out, although we do suggest a quick read of the manual in order to fully appreciate the power of the TalkAbout 250. The placement of the talk button--inconveniently located in the center of the radio- -makes it difficult to speak while holding down the button. You can solve this problem by attaching a microphone to the radio and using the VOX (voice activation) feature, which allows hands-free talking.

Compact and feature- packed, the TalkAbout 250 is an inexpensive walkie-talkie that keeps you connected.

5 out of 5 stars Keeping up with your kids.......2003-07-07

A friend of mine has 13 year old twins and never knows where they have gotten off to. She mentioned to me she was thinking of getting some 2 way radios to try to keep track off them. So I bought her these for Christmas. She seems quiet pleased with them, the kids do not share her joy. These also work well inthe mall or when at a big outdoor event. They fulfill there pupose and are smallenough that they can go in a purse or knapsack with little bulk from them.

4 out of 5 stars Good product, but large........2002-11-27

This device is good, but there are much smaller radios on the market. It also does NOT include NOAA weather channels.

4 out of 5 stars Motorola TalkAbout 250 2-way radio.......2001-12-11

Great product for use in my industry of running cabling in homes. The sound is clear, and finding an available channel is not a problem. I have two problems with the units however, that prevent me from giving it five stars. The location of the talk button is obviously an issue, the other is the design of the volume control knob. It is larger that it needs to be, and located on the upper corner, and it is too easily snagged on things. I have had to replace or repair the volume control knobs frequently. It should possibly be located to the side, with only enough of the dial exposed to adjust the volume.

Great quality everywhere else however. Dropped and sat on, they keep on transmitting!

4 out of 5 stars Thumbs Up.......2001-09-24

Used this product in Aruba last May with great pleasure. Clarity was great with no static. Good distance too inside or out. A great way to keep touch with family members going two different directions. Didn't run into anyone using the chosen channel, but in talking with a hotel employee who arranges outside tours, the TalkAbout was a novelty that they hadn't seen. So doubt may others were using them. The real test of channel availability will be when we take our next trip to Disney World. The push to talk button should be placed on the side for easy of use. Other than that minor annoyance, recommend this product highly.

5 out of 5 stars Family radio, family helper.......2001-09-02

I own three of these 250 radios and love them. We have two children in are home and they know to take a radio with them when ever they leave the yard. Makes getting them home so easy, we just call them on the radio to come home or to ask a question of them. Also to call home if they are scared or have gotten hurt. Works great at the malls and fairs, everwhere. The only thing I would do different if I could would be to get the rechargable batteries. We go thru about $30.00 in batteries a month, but remember we use are radios daly.

5 out of 5 stars Need a few more stars.......2005-12-17

I honestly think that 5 stars is too low of a rating. We have been using the talkabout 250's for years (while Duck Hunting) and in my opinion, they are an invaluable outdoor tool. Not only do they afford us the opportunity to alert others in our group that Ducks are coming their way, but we can also talk back and forth during the slower mornings. Our hunting trips usually last (on average) about 4 hours and I can get at least 4-5 trips out of a single set of batteries. That's hardly a 'battery eater' as far as I'm concerned. And for us, a 2 mile range is PLENTY enough. Needless to say, I am a big talkabout 250 fan and I would advise any Duck Hunters to look into getting a few of these

5 out of 5 stars Invaluable "tool"!.......2001-10-26

I purchased 2 of these radios, primarily for field communications while playing paintball. We used 3 Talkabout 250's, each with a Motorola earbud w/inline microphone and utilized the VOX capability. They worked great and it was an invaluable communications tool during the games. Communications were clear and the VOX worked well as long as the microphone was close to your mouth. The earbud fit very well within the ear and was comfortable. The only drawback with VOX was the delay with the microphone activation when first beginning to speak, but this is to be expected with a VOX setup. It didn't take us long to get in the habit of saying a word or two to activate the mike prior to transmitting what we really wanted to say. We have used these radios in the PTT mode as well and transmission is very clear and the range is good. This is a great way to stay in touch with your teammates, or family and friends in other situations and environments. Note: Amazon.com offered the Motorola 250 at a price significantly lower than I could find anywhere else, online or elsewhere.

5 out of 5 stars Motorola Talkabout 250 - Stay In Touch.......2001-03-08

These radios have been wonderful for our family to stay in touch while on family outings like skiing, hiking, biking, rafting and camping. The range is unbelievable... They're a great investment for families or individuals who spend a lot of time in the outdoors.

5 out of 5 stars Great Range, Clear, and NOT A BATTERY EATER.......2000-11-24

First I would like to say that the person who gave this a battery eater review had bad batteries because I used mine for three days streight with about 10% talk time and could still talk more if I wanted to.

The have great range. We have 60 acers of woods, hills(some are more like cliffs)and thick brush. We run ATVs and we got closer to 2 1/2 to 3 mile range on these bad boys. I droped mine several times while on the 4 wheeler and the radio still works great. Not even a scratch. This could have been prevented with the many holders that are made for them. I would also sugest getting the hands free option if your going to be rideing.

I great buy and even beter with the rebate. Read the rebate close you have to buy the radio on certain dates.

4 out of 5 stars Great product, could be better.......2000-11-04

I got a pair of these to use at Disneyland. They worked great. With all the channels and sub-channels, only once did I pick up anyone else (and it seems like 1/3 of the people in the park were sporting some sort of communication device!). The range was surprisingly good.

I haven't replaced the batteries yet, after about 14 hours of use. It doesn't really strike me as a battery eater.

How could these be better? With all the background noise in the park, it can be hard to hear someone talking to you if the unit is clipped on a belt. More volume would be a definite plus. And an incoming call tone would also help. Thoughts to consider if you plan on getting these to use in noisy locations. If you want them for camping where it is nice and quiet, these are great radios and all you'll ever need.
