Ok I guess..........2007-06-03

We bought this so we can find a NOAA channel easily when on car trips. It serves its purpose, but there are a couple of things that just aren't as great as our larger, stay-put Midland. For example, the Midland allows you to program which kinds of alerts you want to receive. I don't know if any other hand-held gives you that option, but it sure would be nice. You can set it to mute, but the flashing light is tiny. When I'm in my home county, I take it with me when the weather looks bad and set it to turn the radio on if an alert is issued.
This radio comes with an AC adaptor but IS NOT RECHARGABLE--I sure wish it were! Anyway, it does what I want it to do, but it could be so much better!

A "Feel Safe" weather radio.......2007-05-29

We have been very pleased with this weather radio and have recommended it to friends. It can be counted on to give an immediate alert 24/7. Living in an area,as we do, where tornados are a definite possibility,it's important to know when to take shelter.

the radio seems durable and fairly easy to program. It is great that it can be used as a fixed unit or as a portable one so you can take it with you if you need to take shelter. Last week I recieved Severe thunderstorm watches and warnings so it does work as advertised. My one complaint is that you cannot disable the siren for alerts that you are not interested in, being woken up at 3am for a dense fog advisory doesn't seem pleasant. Bottom line is that this radio does its job and I would encourage anyone to buy it as long as you don't mind get alerts for all watches, warnings and advisories.

Seems to work just fine. We wanted it for traveling where we don't have immediate access to weather information. It sure came in handy on our last camping trip.

Cheap, Generic, but gets the job done.......2007-03-16

I bought this item after incessant nagging by the local fox affiliate. Recent tornadoes here in central Florida have demonstrated the need for a weather radio. The fact that they started just a few minutes drive north of my house helped seal the deal.

This particular radio works. I can receive the NOAA broadcasts and the regular Wednesday afternoon tests tend to annoy me yet prove to me that the stupid thing works. It lacks style and feels cheap, but I know it works and will be convenient to carry around. There are more expensive models..but why? We hid it near the bed and my wife put some decorative greenery around it to hide it. It's here, it's...what it is. I'll get used to it.

This compact handheld is ideal after you get an understanding of how to program it and set it. It does work, and we have needed it this year. Would recommend, however, read the instructions very carefully. I had to read them 2 or 3 times before everything clicked.

Nice Product.......2007-06-25

I found the Oregon Scientific WR103NX Weather Radio to be an exceptional product. It was very easy to set up with the aid of the NOAA website. It performs perfectly. This would not be a good product for traveling. You can only set your current location and station. In order for this product to work well for traveling and/or hiking it would need several location settings and a more automated station locator. This is perfect for home use.

Necessary Safety Device.......2007-06-14

I bought the Oregon Scientific WR103NX to replace an Oregon Scientific WR102 that I never could get to work properly. The programming for the two radios is exactly the same and can be a little trying for people that are not good at reading (or following) instructions. Because of this, I would recommend that a friend or family member set this radio for an elderly or disabled person. Once set, however, you won't have to set it again because of the "non-volatile" memory which preserves SAME codes and other settings if the batteries die.
About an hour after I set the radio, a severe thunderstorm warning was issued for my area and the the alarm really got my attention. So far, this radio does everything it's supposed to do. I would recommend it to anybody who is looking for a dependable NOAA weather radio.

Works as advertised! Could be difficult for some folks to set up........2007-05-03

Overall, this radio works as advertised. It's solidly built. Comes with a very nice cradle and AC adapter. The radio COULD be difficult for some people to set up if they are not comfortable with electronics (or reading directions). Reception is clear in our house and the weather alerts certainly can roll you out of bed when they go off in the middle of the night. I was looking for a weather radio with SAME technology that could also sit on my dresser. This fit the bill perfectly. The backlight is also bright and the display is clear. The red alert light (it's normally green) is not as bright as it should be and should be more prominent. However, only a minor complaint and it's worth the price.

Weather Radio A Must Have.......2007-03-17

I am very satisfied with this product and plan to buy more of this same model as gifts for my relatives. I think this is a necessary safety item for every home, and this particular model is compact, powerful, and most importantly, really works!. It is slightly confusing to program, but once mastered, is well worth the challenge. Thanks Boston Scientific for a great product.
