You don't need an FCC license to use this Family Radio Service (FRS) radio, which transmits on 14 channels with 47 privacy codes per channel. View your channel information on the backlit LCD screen with a battery gauge. This radio runs on three AAA alkaline batteries or a rechargeable NiMH battery pack, sold separately. This radio measures 2 by 3 by 0.75 inches and weighs 4.5 ounces. It is covered by a one-year warranty.

Oldie but goodie.......2004-04-28

This radio is no longer manufactured since cherokee (wireless marketing) went out of business in 1999. A company called entel in europe makes the same radio today only in europe. It is called the eurowave and operates on the licence free pmr446 frequencies. When the radio arrived it would not turn on. Since there was no possibility of warranty I took the radio apart and discovered that the battery contacts were not installed properly. Now it works fine. The radios is constructed well and audio is clear. I like the small size. On the downside it used AAA batteries which do not last as long as the AA batteries. I use rechargeable AAA nimh batteries which work fine. All around great radio...too bad it is no longer manufactured.

Cherokee FR 460, review........2002-02-12

The Cherokee FR460, what a great family two-way radio. It's got everything you need to communicate to your friends and family on a days outting. Whether it's skiing, biking, hiking, or any other activity, this radio is perfect. 16 channels and 47 CTCs there is no way that you will find it a problem with too many people using your channel, it's so easy to change channel if you need to. And if you're worried about it falling apart then let me reasure you, it will last even through the hardest of treatment. As a family radio I am very happy to have purchased myself a pair, they have proved themselves time and time again.
