4 out of 5 stars Elle.......2006-05-13

Overall the video was great. Though the person operating the camera was not that good because in the beginning there are to many close ups and you have a hard time following along. About ten minutes into the video they seem to find another camera person and you can watch all the moves and follow along as well. Though they say this video is for all stages, I mainly think it is for intermediates.

5 out of 5 stars perfect stretch for your workout.......2002-11-15

I let a relative borrow this video and I haven't seen it again!
Gotta replace it because it's the most relaxing stretch I have ever experienced - for both before and after aerobics or weight training. Very enjoyable to follow along with because the class seems to really enjoy it as well.

5 out of 5 stars The best exercise video out there.......2000-06-18

I loved this exercise video. The entire group of 3. It's too bad I lent mine out to someone years ago. I've been looking for it everywhere. SI needs to re release the set! I wanted to buy it for my mom for her birthday, but oh well! They are so much fun.

4 out of 5 stars Streching with Elle was better than I thought.......2000-06-12

I was sceptical about any fitness video staring a supermodel but this was not too bad. This video mixes basic streching with yoga type moves that help you with balance and posture. I like this because many yoga videos (even beginner ones) seem a little too advanced if you've never done yoga before. For me this was a good transistional tape. It helped me to acheive a better level of flexability and made me more comfortable with yoga. Elle is a little cheesy but if you get past that it's worth giving a try.

Barbra Streisand's self-absorbed remake of a 1958 French film stars Jeff Bridges as a college professor tired of sexual politics. He makes a deal with a dowdy colleague (Streisand) that they provide companionship for one another, with no thought of getting into bed. She agrees but soon becomes frustrated, the agreement only reinforcing her unfulfilled desire to have a complete relationship with a man. Mimi Rogers is on hand as Babs's striking sister, and Lauren Bacall received an Oscar nomination for her role as the heroine's selfish mother. The film is OK, but it becomes an irritating vanity piece for Streisand (who directed as well as stars). Her character constantly gazes upon her own reflection and is told at least a dozen times, one way or another, just how attractive she is. One wants to shout out, we get it already--you're pretty! The DVD release presents the film in both widescreen and pan and scan versions, plus a Dolby soundtrack. --Tom Keogh

3 out of 5 stars Fun even if you're not a Streistand fan.......2007-04-02

This is kind of like a Howard Hawkes movie. You'll enjoy it more if you spend less time worrying about how the story unfolds and instead just delight in the performances of the actors. Lauren Bacall is such a treat. Streistand playing against Bacall, Brosnan, Rogers, Vaccaro and Segal is fun stuff. Unfortunately, Jeff Bridges is in completely over his head. He's awful (but then he always is). The fact that there's no real chemistry between him and Streistand probably goes unnoticed by most people because some might think his character is not supposed to be physically attracted to Streistand's Rose. But in reality it really hurts the move because there's no simmer between the two. The ending is really killed by the lack of chemistry. Bridges looks as if he's being forced to kiss an aunt with a mustache and Streistand appears to be replused by his presence.
I guess like Hawkes, Streistand doesn't like to reuse a pretty face. That's too bad because just about any of her previous leading men would have improved this otherwise very goood movie.

4 out of 5 stars The Mirror Has Two Faces.......2007-03-12

This is a favorite movie of mine. All the stars are great in it and the story is very endearing and humorous with a redeeming message.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing family story........2007-01-10

This film could be associated with many families, as a matter of fact the story and the caracters have a lot of similarities with my clan....A very enjoyable story with lots of meanings to it.Excellent and very worth while movie to see; I recomend it.

4 out of 5 stars Any Movie That..........2006-12-16

Any Movie that ends with "Nessum Dorma" is cool - period. Think of the longing, the sweetness, the power of the song itself and you get some idea of how this movie will kick you in the gut when you least expect it.

Bridges is awesome in his role -- totally unselfconsciousness, completely believable, absolutly wonderful, and Streisand is strong and brave in hers -- so what's not to love? All those who hated it, watch it again. All of you who haven't seen it, watch it. If you've got a speck of romance in your soul, and a song in your heart, you'll get it.

    3 out of 5 stars If a Girl Isn't Pretty..........2006-10-03

That's the name of a comically mocking song from "Funny Girl" when a group of yentas discuss the romantic prospects of a young Fanny Brice. It seems the harsh sentiments still resonate with Barbra Streisand nearly thirty years later in her third directorial effort. While she shows a sure hand in maneuvering the inevitable shenanigans of a romantic comedy, the multi-hyphenated legend lets her intractable need to convey serious-minded, self-esteem-oriented messages weigh this 1996 movie down considerably.

At an epic length of 130 minutes, the story, adapted by Richard LaGravenese from a forgotten 1958 French film, is quite slight as it focuses on Rose Morgan, a wildly popular Columbia literature professor but also a fortyish, baseball-obsessed frump long in the shadow of her beautiful sister Claire and glamorous mother Hannah. Her lot in life seems crystallized at Claire's wedding when she weds Rose's longtime crush Alex. Meantime, Columbia mathematics professor Gregory Larkin tires of bedding beautiful women who rile him toward irrational acts and wants to find a homely woman with whom he can have a platonic, intellectually-focused friendship and eventually a chaste marriage. Greg places a personals ad to which Claire responds unbeknownst to Rose. The budding relationship between Rose and Greg turns on the inevitable moment when Rose seeks intimacy from a disinterested Greg. This leads to a physical transformation and a message-driven finale.

As Rose, Streisand is quite good and sympathetic most of the way, even if she never looks terribly frumpy and overdoes her character's magnetic speaking skills in the lecture hall. Like the yearning Barbra of long ago, she achieves a palpable sadness when she feels humiliated on her wedding night. However, once Rose transforms herself, Streisand's ego takes over as her blonde highlights and aerobicized body bring back the execrable, soft-focus treatment from the lovemaking scenes in "The Prince of Tides". Looking more like his uni-browed brother and father as he grows older, Jeff Bridges plays Greg as a befuddling stereotype who grows more unrealistic as the story evolves.

At the time of release, Lauren Bacall received all sorts of kudos as Hannah, though it is a relatively superficial performance in a showy role except for a wonderfully brave, make-up-free scene where Hannah admits to Rose how she valued her beauty while it lasted. Mimi Rogers provides sharp bite as Claire, while Pierce Brosnan lends the necessary smarminess to the shallow Alex and George Segal (Streisand's one-time co-star in "The Owl and the Pussycat") is relegated to a dispensable best-pal role. As with her previous two films, Streisand imbues her film with lots of background music though this time it feels somewhat more intrusive. What she does achieve is the romanticism in tone and self-image reinforcement she obviously felt a need to convey. The DVD came out only two years later in 1998 and consequently has no extras to offer.

        5 out of 5 stars AWESOME Bra.......2006-11-10

Having purchased a TON of nursing bra's--in all styles and prices-- while still pregnant, I can say without reservation that this one is the best.

Being large busted, but relatively small around (am normally a 32E, but am currently a 36E), it's very difficult to find bra's that provide adequate support, are comfortable, and that don't look like a granny-brasiere. Further, it's pretty much impossible to find a soft cup/non-underwire that does all of the above.

This bra is supportive, comfortable, pretty (the lace in the cleavage really does look like a cami under tops) and your breasts don't look like 'uni-boob.' One tip for new nursing moms: definitely don't use underwire bra's. I made that mistake at first (for the support) and got recurring mastitis--not fun AT ALL.

5 out of 5 stars Best nursing bra!!.......2006-07-15

This is the best nursing bra I have found so far. It is far superior to the bras I had when I had my first child 4 years ago.

Although it does not have underwire support, it is very supportive (even for my 38DD size). I switched to nonwire bras, when I found underwire bras to be uncomfortable (blocking milk ducts perhaps).

As an added bonus, although it is a full coverage bra, it is quite pretty. It has nice lace on the top, which looks like a pretty camisole under clothes.

Also, the 6 columns of hooks are fabulous! I now believe all bras should have more columns of hooks so we can get more wear out of them.

I would definately recommend this bra. It is more expensive than some others, but it is worth it!

I first saw this movie on the sundance channel. I thought it was sweet and hilariuos at times. A perfect role for Sarah Jessica Parker! I highly reccommend this film to anyone who loves "Sex and the City". Sit back, and get ready to laugh, because this film is a trip! Check out the very young Scarlet Johansen! I bought this on DVD and it is in my dvd player A LOT!

4 out of 5 stars It is what it is..........2005-09-19

Excellent cast in a movie that reflects life - sometimes humourous, sometimes disappointing, sometimes sad and sometimes strange.

Although Elle MacPherson cannot act, Sarah Jessica Parker, Ben Stiller and Eric Schaeffer are convincing enough to take up the slack.

I agree with one of the other reviewers in that this is a consistently funny and touching film.

4 out of 5 stars Not nearly as bad as some people have said.......2004-12-18

Although this isn't the most polished movie, it is genuinely entertaining, and only someone not remotely interested in seeing a romantic comedy would give it 0-1 stars.

I can't remember why I first picked it up (I didn't see it in the theaters), but it is a consistently funny, touching film. I'm not a fan of Sarah Jessica Parker, Elle MacPherson (who I feel turns in the strangest, poorest performance of the bunch), or even Ben Stiller, but I think it's easy to identify with people so afraid to be in love, but so afraid not to be in a committed relationship.

All in all, it's a bunch of laughs, and kind of a relief to watch something that takes itself less seriously than some of the big-name romantic comedies that are put out today and fall flat.

4 out of 5 stars Great cast, but writing sometimes falls through the cracks.......2004-01-23

The casting here was excellent - Ben Stiller, Elle Macpherson, Sarah Jessica Parker were all great. In fact, I am convinced that Elle Macpherson can act because of the 3 movies I have now seen her in, she plays decidedly different people in each one. She is perfectly cast as Joe's dream woman. I found Eric Schaeffer's character the least appealing of the whole cast. Some of the jokes here are wildly funny. The audience is never given a clue that the Jane Lindquist character is only getting involved with Joe to indulge the fantasy world he had created of her. I thought it was odd that she enjoyed his voyeurism and then seemed honestly interested in him sexually, but was not interested in a relationship with him. Earlier her character makes a statement that the world makes too much of the sexually charged days in the beginning of relationships, people move on after that part is over and that a lasting relationship is what she wants. That part did not make sense. This could have been improved by some better writing and better character development. The humor here is what makes this worth watching.

4 out of 5 stars A nice circuit workout with one of today's top instructors (Karen Voight, not Elle!).......2005-09-26

Although the cover of this workout featuress supermodel Elle MacPherson, don't let that fool you--the instructor of this video is none-other than world-renowned fitness instructor Karen Voight. This is a circuit workout, which means there are aerobic segments which alternate with weighted toning intervals. Karen and Elle appear together in a variety of beautifully scenic Hawaii locations, and although Elle introduces the various segments, Karen takes over from there.

The workout starts with a 4 minute warm-up. This was classic Karen Voight: basic moves such as marches and side-steps combined with arm movements to warm up both your lower and your upper body. Next comes the first aerobic segment, lasting about 4.5 minutes. Again, Karen uses very simple moves (hamstring curls, knee-ups), and she ups the intensity a bit at the very end with some hops. For the first toning interval, no weights are used, but Karen and Elle use a bench; a chair works fine. Seated in the chair, you'll do various leg extensions, move on to tricep dips, and then finish on the floor with push-ups for a total of 5.5 minutes.

The second aerobic interval is very similar to the first; it also adds a bit of intensity at the end with jumping jacks, and it's about 5 minutes long. The second toning segment is longer (11 minutes) and works a greater variety of muscles. First, you'll use the dumbbells to work your arms and shoulders in a standing position. Next, you'll lie over your chair or bench (I used my stability ball here) in a an all-fours position for glutes work. Finally, you'll move to a seated position for some additional upper body work with the dumbbells. The last aerobic segment starts with some mock jump rope, and then Karen performs moves inspired by different sports, including basketball, football, karate, and swimming for 9 minutes total.

The last toning segment is performed on the floor. You'll start with abs work, and as always, Karen attacks the abs thoroughly with a variety of crunches. You then lie on your back for additional glutes work via several pelvic lift variations. Finally, Karen has you lie on your stomach for just a few back strengthening moves for a total of 8.5 minutes. The workout ends with a 6.5 minute cool-down performed entirely on the floor; Karen leads you through some seated and lying yoga stretches to the tune of "Fields of Gold" (although the artist is not Sting), bringing the total time for the workout in at about 54 minutes.

The interaction between Karen and Elle reminded me very much of another supermodel fitness video, Cindy Crawford's A New Dimension--there, instructor Kathy Kaehler leads the workout, but Cindy makes frequent comments, as Elle does here. Some might find these quips annoying, but Elle seemed genuine to me, and she certainly deferred to Karen as appropriate. In addition to the song mentioned above, much of the music in this video was recognizable as hits from the late 80s/early 90s, including "Some Like It Hot" and "Break My Stride." Finally, I think this video would appeal to a wide range of fitness levels: beginners could modify down by keeping the cardio entirely low-impact and by using light or no weights, and more experienced exercises could add light hand weights to the cardio segments, utilize ankle weights for the leg work, and increase the dumbbells for the upper body work (but beware: Karen does a lot of reps, and as an intermediate, I found using 5 lbs. tough!). Overall, this is a very solid interval workout with a timeless feel, and I'd definitely recommend it.

        5 out of 5 stars Great workout.......2004-10-28

This workout, w/ Karen Voigt, is really good--and never gets old because you can make it more challenging w/ heavier weights.

5 out of 5 stars This exercise program really tones!.......2003-11-11

Well, I just love this exercise tape! I haven't done aerobics or exercise tapes since 1990, so this was a switch for me! I usually jog or ride my bike for exercise on a daily basis and lift free weights about 3-5 days a week. With all of that, I noticed that I was losing the tone in my triceps and wanted to firm up the back of my arms. I am a fan of Elle Macpherson, which led me to this exercise video in the first place. Not only is she beautiful, but somehow she seems real and sincere. Karen Voight is a pleasant surprise. I have been doing the sculpting parts in addition to jogging daily for one week and I honestly can feel the difference in my upper body and abdominals.

4 out of 5 stars Good to change the pace.......2001-09-06

Karen Voight really makes this tape. I bought this tape because of all of the hype that was surrounding Elle Macpherson and all reviews saying that this wasa a good workout. I find this tape is excellent for easing back into working out. Don't get me wrong, it is a challenge but after I while it gets a bit easier. The tape has Karen Voight leading Elle through a circuit of cardio and toning.

The sections vary between cardio and toning and the exercises are easy and fun, things that don't require a bunch of equipment.
Elle Macpherson is a pain in the behind. Her comments were irritating and distracting and I wanted to reach into the televison and smack her silly. At times I thought I saw Karen Voight roll her eyes at her. If you can ignore Elle then this is a good one to own for lazy days.

        4 out of 5 stars Not Karen Voight's Best...but interesting.......2001-07-26

I purchased this video some years ago and used it quite often during that time as I was on vacation and wasn't doing my usual fitness routine - I liked the video back then. I actually found it again a couple of weeks ago and had forgotten about it - tried it out again and found it to be less of a workout then it was a few years ago ( Although I think this is a good thing :)). My comments on the video : (1)the scenery is pleasant but overall the workout feels a little rushed. Its as if the camera crew only had a very limited amount of time to shoot the video (ie. a couple of hours). (2)the video divides the workout into several different cardio sections interspersed with weight training including upper body with weights and two lower body sections focussing on abs, legs, and butt. Overall, The video is pleasant to watch and not boring. (3) Karen Voight combines different sports-inspired moves (from swimming, boxing, and basketball) with more traditional squats, grapevines, hamstring curls, push-ups, sit-ups etc... (4) This is perfect for someone who would be considered in the beginner category,if you are more in the intermediate category, you would probably want to do this on a lighter day. With the pleasant scenery in this video and even though the workout feels a little rushed, it will make you sweat if you are a beginner and you will feel good even if you are more of an intermediate exerciser.

Following Val Kilmer's portrayal of the caped crusader in Batman Forever, the fourth Batman feature stars George Clooney under the pointy-eared cowl, with Chris O'Donnell returning as Robin the Boy Wonder. This time the dynamic duo is up against the nefarious Mr. Freeze (Arnold Schwarzenegger), who is bent on turning the world into an iceberg, and the slyly seductive but highly toxic Poison Ivy (Uma Thurman), who wants to eliminate all animal life and turn the Earth into a gigantic greenhouse. Alicia Silverstone lends a hand as Batgirl, and Elle McPherson plays the thankless role of Batman/Bruce Wayne's fiancée. A sensory assault of dazzling colors, senseless action, and lavish sets run amok, this Batman & Robin offers an overdose of eye candy, but it is strictly for devoted Bat-o-philes. --Jeff Shannon

I made the mistake of paying to see this. I usually like to watch cutie O'Connell but wow boring movie. You would think with special effects & all the digital things they have today maybe they could hide a bad story line. Not so! Really boring.

1 out of 5 stars Batman and Robin: Dull and Duller.......2007-05-27

In all honesty, this DVD was bought rather inexpensively because there is hope in this world that this film will one day become a Rifftrax! Each and every true movie buff has hopes for this.

Clooney is way too smarmy. Chris O'Donnell is way to cocky. Arnold is way too in it for the money. Uma just waltzed thru, hoping her paycheck would clear so she could buy a new car. (at least that's the way it seemed.) And Alicial Silverstone is beautiful, but underused.

The fault lies in so many different areas, it's not funny. Could it be the way too outlandish dialogue and lack of follow thru? Was it because the movie became much more of a cartoon than a comic book? Is it the fault Joel Schumacher and his vision of a 'sexier' Batman and Robin? His vision is usually pretty dead on and talent is usually decent with movies such as A Time to Kill, Falling Down, and The Lost Boys.

My guess is it's Warner Brother's fault because they wanted to milk every last dime out of the general public who had any ounch of fandom left for Batman.

Thank heavens they later let Christopher Nolan have his way with a "reboot," and from that came: Batman Begins (Two-Disc Special Edition)

Buy it, and save it for Rifftrax.

3 out of 5 stars Bad movie, great DVD.......2007-04-03

I'm just not going to reiterate what countless others have said about this movie. Simply said, this is the movie that singlehandedly ran the "Batman" franchise off the tracks and for a long time was considered the end of the franchise, until Christopher Nolan boldly resurrected the franchise with the magnificent "Batman Begins" in June 2005.

There's just so many things about it it would probably take me pages to list them all. The screenplay, written by Akiva Goldsman (who has proven himself to be a capable screenwriter in other movies), is just the primary offender. The screenplay is also atrocious in dialogue, mostly relegated for the badly-miscast Arnold Schwartzenegger as Mr. Freeze and it beats us over the head with its absurd plot twists and sickening melodrama. Superhero movies are definitely not Akiva Goldsman's strongest suit. The movie is also much gaudier and colorful, to the point where it seems more like a three-ring circus act rather than a proper Batman movie. Director Joel Schumacher (who also has some good films under his belt, such as "The Client" and "Tiger Land") just phones it in and doesn't aim for any sort of restraint or subtlety.

The good points? well, most of the actors escape unscathed, although this is one film they'll prefer to forget on their resumes. George Clooney does fine, just playing himself wearing the Batman costume and acting like a faux Cary Grant when he's out of the suit. Chris O'Donnell is fine and so is Alicia Silverstone (even though the script absurdly rewrites her origin as Alfred's niece and not as Commissioner Gordon's daughter in the comics), but Arnold Schwartznegger is just badly miscast. Every time he's on screen, I just grind my teeth in agony over the bad one-liners the script gives him. The only real standouts are Uma Thurman who vamps it up wonderfully as Poison Ivy and looks great in the wig and skintight outfits and Michael Gough does inject his trademark class into a rather thankless reprise of Alfred.

When Warner Brothers adapted the DVD format, "Batman & Robin" (as well as the four other Batman movies) were a few of the first films to see the light on DVD, albeit in stripped down and barebones versions. With the impending release of "Batman Begins" in summer 2005, Warner Brothers announced that all four Batman movies would receive new digital transfers and be released on DVD with all-new bonus material. This is "Batman & Robin"'s second offering on DVD, and does it warrant a double-dip? Yes and no.

If you hate "Batman & Robin", you're liable to skip this and just pick up the first two "Batman" special editions. However, if you're a fan of the film, this is definitely worth a purchase in terms of better video and great extras.

In comparison to the 1997 edition, the 2005 transfer of "Batman & Robin" is a significant improvement. The previous edition was on a dual-sided, single layer disc, while this edition is housed on a dual-layer disc and is progressively encoded. The colors were messy and runny in the 1997 edition, but the 2005 edition corrects those errors. Detail is better, as well as overall compression and color stabilization. This edition isn't quite an improvement as the first "Batman" movie was, but as such it was a newer release and didn't warrant a more extensive transfer. That said, it looks gorgeous even with all the gaudy colors on display and looks impressive, even though there are a few instances of film artifacts.

The Dolby Digital 5.1 track is the same offering as on the 1997 edition, but even then it sounded great without any major problems. There is a most significant audio upgrade in terms of a higher-bitrate DTS 5.1 surround track. The Dolby track is just as noisy and bombastic as the film demands, with frequent surround activity, deep bass and clear dialogue. Elliot Goldenthal's music has fine stereo spread and sounds great. The DTS track is marginally louder but is just as clear and precise as the Dolby track, but both lack the subtler ambience and sense of spaciousness that "Batman Begins" had. Still, this is a reference-quality transfer. Also included is a French 5.1 dub (which is preferable since you won't have to be subjected to the awful dialogue) and the film has optional subtitles in English, French and Spanish.

Like the previous three "Batman" movies, the first disc has the movie, a full-length audio commentary by Joel Schumacher, and the film's theatrical trailer (presented anamorphically with stereo sound). The audio commentary by Schumacher is decent, but does tend to be self-congratulatory in places. He does make a discreet apology to those who didn't like the film and asserts that he fully knew what he was doing when he signed on to do "Batman & Robin". It's a boon for those who want to hear Schumacher's apology, and it too is an alternative audio track to listen to the movie with in that it masks most of the horrible dialogue. The trailer is decent, but it makes the movie to be much better than what it turned out to be. The film is divided into 41 chapters and the main menu is animated against a segment of Elliot Goldenthal's different Batman theme.

The second disc of extras mirror that of the previous three releases. There's the sixth part of "The Cinematic Saga of Batman", which covers the release and critical drubbing the film got. Also included is a similar heroes and villains section that covers the different heroes and villains of the movies, such as Commissioner Gordon, the Dynamic Duo, Batgirl, Bane, Poison Ivy and Mr. Freeze. Almost all of these featurettes feature new interviews with Joel Schumacher, producer Peter MacGregor-Scott, Alicia Silverstone, Chris O'Donnell, executive producer Michael Uslan, and Akiva Goldsman (unsurprisingly, there are no new interviews with Schwartznegger, Thurman or Clooney -- perhaps they're too embarassed to talk about B&R now). In addition to the "Beyond Batman" gallery, which covers production design, makeup design, vehicle design, costume design, and visual effects (no featurette about the musical score here) and the usual plethora of movie-related music videos, there is also a brief deleted scene included, "Alfred's Lost Love". It clears up a plot point in the film, but is nothing extraordinary and worth giving a cursory glance. The menus on the second disc are still, with only the main menu featuring a segment of the score. The set is packaged in a double-width Amaray keep case without inserts of any kind.

If you hate this movie with a burning passion, then avoid this disc like the plague. If you're enamored with the film because it's unintentionally funny (or if you actually think it's good), then by all means get it because the extras are extensive and the transfer is a noticeable improvement over the initial release. But if you're a completist, then it'd be preferable if you buy the Complete Batman Anthology set so you won't be heckled for having such a bad film in your collection.

Batman & Robin was one of the best Batmans ever! Arnold Scwarzenegger made a perfect Mr.Freeze! He had that type of charisma, style, and attitude that made him the ''perfect''Mr.Freeze.George Clooney made a good
Batman. He was not as good as Michael Keaton or Val Kilmer, but you still have to admit,he had that type of charm that made him good!Chris O' Donnells preformance as Robin was excellent! He did not do as good as he did in ''Batman Forever'', bbut he stll made a excellent Robin in this one too!Uma Thurmans' Poison Ivy was
stupondus!Know one else could have played a better Poison Ivy than her!Her emphisis and style in her role was what made her a perfect Poison Ivy!Alicia Silverstone playing Batgirl was very good, but not excellent.her wit and officincy in her part was what made her really good. But you still have to give her a chance in her role. I also think that they Should've dyed her hair red, insense Barbara Gordons hair is red.they also should have named her Barbara Gordon! Not Barbara Wilson! That is Batgirls' original alias!Other than that ,Idon't know what you are talking about America, because Batman & Robin was a excellent film!
