Before her death in 1964, Madeleva Wolff, CSC (Congregation of the Holy Cross), was recognized as one of American Catholicism's most extraordinary women. Known as an educator who founded the School of Sacred Theology (the first and, for more than a decade, the only institution to offer graduate degrees in theology to women) Madeleva was also renowned as a scholar, mystical poet, and the author of more than twenty books. Educated at Berkeley and Oxford, she participated in the Catholic Revival of the early part of the twentieth century and established a center of Christian culture and educational innovation at Saint Mary's College, Notre Dame, where she was president for twenty-seven years. Her friendships with C.S. Lewis, Thomas Merton, Jacques Maritain, Charles Du Bos, and Clare Boothe Luce, among others, put her in touch with a wide range of Christian intellectuals. As a spokeswoman for the education of women and an advocate for the improvement of the status of women in the church, Madeleva anticipated the women's movement of the late 1960s and the reforms of Vatican II by more than a generation. This biography tells her compelling story and sheds new light on the history of a religious life and religious communities, as well as women's education, writing, and lives.

I have just finished this book that was in depth on the life of Madeleva and the wonderful college St. Marys in Indiana. Dr. Mandell achieves all she set out to do...to let her know what a rich, challenging, and spirtual life Madelva led. A step for any women's enrichment course. I loved it!

As a student of Saint Mary's College in Notre Dame, IN, I wanted to learn more about Sr. Madeleva, one of Saint Mary's most famous president. With the help of Gail Mandell's book, I did just that. Dr. Mandell presents Madeleva's life in an easy to read, enjoyable biography. She thouroughly traces Madeleva's life from her childhood in Cumberland, Wisc., to her death in Boston, MA. The stories contained in the biography give us a look at the human, rather than the nun. You become a part of Madeleva's life, and truly understand the greatness of this woman.

What a wonderful video and so playful! My one year old nephew watches it and moves back and forth and claps and hopefully when he's stable on both feet will dance around. Kudos to the devloper of this - may she make many, many, many more videos for our children!

Amazing for my speech delayed son!.......2004-02-13

I purchased this video on a whim and it is my 2-year old son's absolute favorite. He is speech delayed and receives intensive in-home therapy. Through therapy, and use of this video, he is now counting, identifying letters, colors, numbers, animal noises, etc. A wonderful educational tool that takes the guilt out of television watching. A must have for all toddlers. And, yes, the music is really good. My husband and I both enjoy it.

Educational and Entertaining.......2003-05-17

This video is great entertainment for our little ones. This video presents the alphabet, colors and numbers by real children . The songs and music are happy and fun. The accompanying CD is a real nice bonus. Video makes a nice baby gift or birthday present. Priced right,too!

After only watching this video a few times, my 2-year-old was counting to ten and reciting the alphabet with enthusiasm! He begs us to play this video for him. The kids are so adorable. I appreciate the fact that the tape features children of all colors and various age groups. Whiz Kids gets 5 stars. The music is really catchy too and won't drive parents crazy. Long shelf-life. Good investment. Purchase with confidence.

This video is so cute; my 2 year old loves it! Thanks to the tape, she has learned the alphabet, numbers and colors. The music is great too - very catchy, we play the cd in the car all the time.

I highly recommend Whiz Kids for your own kids or as a gift!
