She Brings It To Pass.......2002-01-21
I must admit, as an African-American, I become a bit suspicious when I see recordings of spirituals sung by artists of European-American extraction. Well, my doubts were completely erased listening to Del-Louise Moyer's thrilling renditions in "He'll Bring It To Pass."
Ms. Moyer possesses an essentially lyric mezzo tinged with a gutsiness rarely heard these days. Close you eyes and listen to her sings these songs; the ethnicity question becomes moot. The joy, anguish, and exultation expressed in this material becomes universal with Ms. Moyer's artistry and the expert accompaniment by Dean Williamson.
The first eight tracks are devoted to familiar songs such as "My Lord What a Morning" and, a favorite of mine, "Witness."
Ms. Moyer and Mr. Williamson's collaboration here alone is worth the price of the CD.
The piece de resistance of the disc is the raarely performed Americanegro Suite by Harold Arlen and Ted Koehler. Del-Louise Moyer establishes herself as an artist of the first rank.
Buy this recording. You'll be glad you did!
