Customer Reviews:
Caveat Emptor.......2002-12-28
The promotional material for this CD fails to warn potential buyers that it IS NOT a recording of Giuseppe Becce's score for 'Caligari.' According to the liner notes: "Virtually nothing is known about Becce's score, which is lost." In order to construct this recording, "Becce's authenticated short pieces for the silent cinema were taken as a starting point and focus and were then combined with other film music by the same composer in the interests of stylistic authenticity."
The music is entertaining enough, but represents only "Becce's spooky tunes," and not his intended soundtrack to 'Caligari.'
