Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Chazanut and Davvaning A personal word .......2007-01-02

I am not the best person to review this collection of 'Chazanut'. First I do not know the subject so well. Secondly, one of the memorable experiences of my childhood was standing in Shul and wondering how it was possible for our beloved Chazan Mr. Shulman to spend a half hour on one word. The trills and the operatic shmaltz always seemed to me in a certain way to be more a show than real 'davvaning'.
On the other hand I know many people love Chazzanut so much find it the most uplifting form of spiritual musical expression. Listening here to this somewhat scratchy C.D. I was moved at the HaMavdil of the legendary Yossele Rosenblat. I too was moved at just hearing these 'tefillot' being brought back into a world which for me is always sacred, the world of Hebrew prayer.
Some of the great Chazzanim are on this. It was a great pleasure to hear them.
