I found this composition while searching for Vivaldi's 4 seasons. Wouldn't you know i may enjoy this one more. It is simply beautiful when turned really loud.

La Serenissima never fails to add a renewed sense of vigor and energy to the music they perform. One of the most beautiful renderings of Vivaldi's music that I have heard. Highly recommended.

Playing the Vivaldi Double?.......2007-01-06

Is someone you know playing the Vivaldi Double (Suzuki Cello Method book six)? They might want to listen to an alternative performance, one other than the heavy-handed job on the Suzuki record. This one is played very clearly and slowly, and badly enough that you might imagine your son-daughter-student-self playing it better in recital! (We also have Yo-yo's over the top performance on his Vivaldi's Cello CD. That one is fun to listen to, but not very encouraging to the student.) The oboe and bassoon pieces are a pleasant bonus and the CD is very cheap, so quit dithering and buy it!

decent CD for the price.......2004-06-26

this is actually a pretty good CD. i got it for the double cello concerto (which anyone familiar w/ the suzuki cello program has undoubtedly heard). that concerto is overall the best work on this disc. the oboe/violin concerto and the bassoon concerto are also good, while the oboe duo concerto has very dull solo parts and the two mandolin concerti also lack interest. the orchestra and soloists are average in general. there aren't any glaring problems, but some of the tutti sections are overly loud and the orchestra and soloists could have had more personality. the slow movements tend to be very good. all in all this is a great and incredibly cheap way to hear this less familiar repertoire.

Rare pieces.......2005-08-06

This album is worth buying for the rare recordings of Biscogli and Aldrovandini. Guttler is his usual lively self, particularly in the Vivaldi concerto, which is played faster than on any other recording I've heard. Guttler's interpretations are different enough from the mainstream, while still being good, that I'd recommend the album.
