Editorial Reviews Chinese pianist Li Jian gained gained world-wide recognition in 981 when, at the age of 16, he took Second Grand Prize in the prestigious Marguerite Long-Jacques Thibaud Competition in Paris - an honor that prompted the French government to award him a scholarship to study with Professor Pierre Sancan at the Conservatoire de Paris. Li Jian was honored by the Chinese government and was the youngest musician chosen to play at the national reception honoring President Jimmy Carter on his visit to China.
Album Description
Two of history's most natural geniuses are featured here - Mozart and Schubert - who, as boys, wrote astonishingly fine scores as easily as others wrote letters and, as men, composed heart-rendingly perfect masterpieces even when there were no audiences for them. Near the ends of their short lives - Mozart died at 35, Schubert at 31 - both had written themselves beyond the capacity of the Viennese public. The future, however, appreciated them tremendously, and their works are now beloved throughout the world.
