Excellent.......2007-07-09
Excellent CD. Doreen has a very soothing voice spoken in a relaxed manner. The soft music in the background enhances the relaxed mood without becoming a focus in itself. The script she uses is concise enough to provide adequate guidance yet open-ended enough to make listining to it a very personal experience which can be listened to again and again as if it were the first time.
Try high quality speakers.......2007-07-08
I bought this cd along with several others. After awhile this has become my favorite. It's not the words or imagery, and this might sound wierd.
I tried it out recently on a higher quality system with expensive speakers. It may just be me, but it has the effect of percodan or loritab (pain medication).
Something about her voice, on the high end speakers multiplies the effect of relaxing me, even as I'm sitting up with eyes open. On my $100 stereo it's nothing special although still my favorite.
didn't like so don't listen to it.......2006-11-09
should have been as good as the others i got.
It just plain works!!.......2006-10-07
This CD is a strange mix of things -- from a guided imagery trip to a tale about a boy building a wall. Whatever. The bottom line is that it puts me to sleep almost every time. I can't remember the last time I heard the CD to the end. Maybe only twice out of 60 playings.
I can still have problems staying asleep (insomnia and mild sleep apnea) but that's another issue.
My wife has a bunch of Wendi Freisen CDs which absolutely do not work for me. Where Wendi's voice grates and annoys, Doreen's voice is, "like buttah".
Highly recommended.
Sweet sleep!.......2006-08-25
I bought this for my husband to help with his relaxation and sleep. Not only does he love it, but I do to! I put it in my DVD player at night, set the tv for auto shut off and Doreen knocks me out! I've been sleeping so well myself since listening to her. She has a great voice for relaxation, and I've yet to hear the whole cd! I also gave this to my mom who has problems with sleeping and she dittos what I've said.

A GREATEST HITS ALBUM.......2007-06-26
Just fair warning--I did not study the amazon ad closely enough to deduce that this is just a greatest hits album. Great music, of course, but if you've got their CDs already....I burned up a quick $15 on it. There are added features, but if you're like me, with no time to watch DVD material, then it won't be worth it to you. There are only two tracks from the hard to find EYES OF FLAME album (including a live version of a song available on later albums), and there are three bonus tracks as well. That said--if you love MOD's Surfing USA, you may not be able to pass up SC3's Good Vibrations. Heroes is delightfully bizarre, and SC3 Christmas music will be a seasonal treat, just not the stuff you're itching to listen to repeatedly.
If you are not familiar with the band, just pick one of their previous records--then if you love it, you'll want the others anyway and won't duplicate purchases.
If you're a fanatic, well, you'll get it anyway, and enjoy!

A wonderfully relaxing beautiful music CD........2006-12-13
The Silent Path is one of the most beautiful pieces of music you will ever have the pleasure to enjoy. It is all one work divided in to several sections. This CD is good for relaxation, enjoyment, contemplation, therapeutic massage, Reiki etc. A must for your collection if the above includes some of your interests.
Wonderful.......2005-11-11
This CD is just wondeful, peaceful and calming. Has a positive affect on you spritually, physically and emotinally. I highly recommend it if you like to meditate, just listen and/or just dream. Pure listening pleasure and delight.
Great CD to Relax.......2005-09-28
I purchased this CD from a New Age bookstore over 6 years ago and am still in love with it! Whenever I need a moment to collect my thoughts and chill, The Silent Path helps to slow down and relax.
I am a school librarian and use it for when students enter and make book selections. It is amazing the difference and mood that is established. Music is very powerful and this CD really proves that point!
I would recommend it to ANYONE!
Grrreat emotional music!!.......2005-07-26
This music is so peaceful! I really like relaxation or meditation music but with The Silent Path, it's the first time that I can put a specific word on that kind of music: emotional. In fact, The Silent Path remains in your heart comparing to some relaxation or meditation music that sounds so "commercial" it stays in your head only!
Just for yourself, take time to listen to it. You will quickly find out the effects in you heart.
Music to sooth the Soul.......2003-10-15
This is the the best relaxation/new age style music cd I have ever heard and I have quite a few in my library. It's great for meditation, visualization or just relaxing. Check out Robert Coxon's other cd's as they are good too, but not as good as this one. I remember playing it for a friend and she said she could feel her heart being drawn in by it.
Highly Recommended!!! :)

Embracing the role of fellow spiritual seeker as well as composer, pianist Kevin Kern invites listeners to find a safe, comfortable place in their imaginations and tag along on what his CD packaging describes as a "self-guided healing visualization." For those favorably inclined toward such musical journeys of the soul, Kern proves to be a sincere and capable guide. His slowly unfolding piano works (periodically embellished with acoustic guitar, flute, strings and understated electronics) are soft, serene and, on occasion ("High above the Valley" and "Through the Veil" in particular), memorably attractive. The foil-stamped/die-cut/textured paper packaging for The Winding Path, Kern's sixth career release, is first-rate; the story line it contains, centered on the discovery of a "cauldron of healing," is a matter of personal taste. As for the music, Kern's compositions can intermittently seem a touch too sweet or simplistic, but the overall flavor is peaceful, relaxing and, considering the context, admirably refined. --Terry Wood

Customer Reviews:
Good Quiet Time Music.......2006-11-05
I like this CD very much, it is good relaxing music.
The only thing I don't like is the fact I can't rip it into my computer - that is very annoying because that was one of the main reasons I purchased it - so I could add it to my Calm Music MP3 compliation on my computer. Because of this I won't be purchasing more of Kevin Kern's music.
An Easy Winner.......2005-08-26
A strange thing happens every time I listen to this album - I hear the first few cuts and then there's a blur and the last cut is going by. This isn't meant as a negative, but it does point out that this is one of those albums that quickly blends into whatever I'm doing and becomes part of the environment.
Much to my surprise, Kevin Kern is a native Detroiter (there's not a lot of New Age music getting made up here). His training is classical, with a lot of mentoring by George Shearing. The combination has made him a master of improvisation, with a knack for taking the melodic path. Winding Path is his sixth album, done in 2003. It spent some 15 weeks on the charts, which is a pretty solid accomplishment.
This is a 'group' album - Pamela Copus on various woodwinds and Jeff Kinski on Guitar are the core players, (listen to the first two cuts - Touch of Love and Way of the Stream) but several others add their talents to make the album something of a surprise to those who think of Kern as a solo pianist. He also experiments a bit with sound effects and such (High Above the Valley).
I'm hesitant to say this is his best album, but once I decide to pay careful attention to it, it is certainly one of his most interesting. A lot of the work is quite subtle. I give this one an 'A' for listenability. Yet another reason to put a stereo in the woodshop.
Real Music.......2003-06-13
"Winding Path" is a rare great album, a must-have for all who loves emotional, intelligent, comforting piano-based music... Thank you very much, Kevin, for this wunderful and timeless record.
from Solo Piano Publications.......2003-06-04
As a long-time fan of Kevin Kern's music, I'm excited to say that I think "The Winding Path" is his best album to date. Due to a serendipitous equipment failure just prior to the recording sessions, this album is much more acoustic than previous albums and the "canned" strings are all but gone. Kern recorded this album on an amazing Hamburg Steinway that he refers to as "God's own piano," and his passion for this instrument sings through on each piece. Joining Kern on this album are 2002 (Pam Copus does an incredible job on all of the wind instruments, and Randy supplies bells and other sounds), Jeff Kinsky on guitar, Jeremy Cohen on violin, Terence Yallop on bells on one track, and Kevin's wife, Pam, on rainstick. And then there is that piano. The combined forces produce a "great big soundscape" (Kevin's quote) that may surprise some of his fans. The music is still very gentle, soothing, and uplifting, but the feel and quality of the album is bigger and fuller. I love it! Kern says that the difference in his approach to this album is that this music will be the "heart and soul and center" of his live appearances - concert audiences are in for a real treat!
"The Touch of Love" opens the album on a rather ethereal note. The 2002-influence is really strong on this piece, and it is a truly beautiful collaboration. Pam Copus' flute has such a feeling of yearning, combined with sweet voices, and that marvelous piano (and pianist!). "The Way of the Stream" is a gorgeous guitar/ piano duet with a few additional sounds for color. "A Million Stars" is a wonderful piece that Kern created in the studio at Terence Yallop's suggestion that he "play the sky." (Pieces like this make my fingers itch!) The clarity and sparkle of the upper registers of the piano are perfect for depicting a clear night skyscape away from the lights of the city. This is definitely one of my favorite Kern pieces (not just from this album). "High Above the Clouds" begins with the sound of a thunder storm; Pam Copus comes in on Native American flute, playing a lovely, melancholy melody. Then the piano picks up the melody and develops it. The piece becomes a flute and piano duet with some background accompaniment. "Through the Veil" is a classic Kern anthem with the addition of a rhythm track. Mostly piano and guitar (with Pam on rainstick!), the melody is compelling and heartfelt - another one of my favorites on this album. My favorite track on "The Winding Path" is the title track, which features Kern on piano, Copus on flute, and the incredible Jeremy Cohen on violin. An achingly beautiful piece, this one touched me deeply each of the ten or so times I've heard it.
Bravo to Kevin Kern and company for producing a "real" standout! A guided visualization is included in the liner notes for those who are so inclined, but the music is vivid and colorful enough that you can probably produce your own daydreams to accompany it.
Tremendous Offering from Kevin Kern.......2003-06-04
"The Winding Path" is Kevin Kern's latest CD for Real Music, and what an outstanding collection of tracks is to be found on this 44 minute disc.
With far more emphasis on blending other instruments with his exquisite piano playing, this CD is quite different from his previous efforts. Long-term Kern fans need not worry, however. The additional accompanying instruments merely enhance the beauty of his piano playing, and make this one of my all-time favourite CDs.
2002 fans will be delighted by the duo's quite prominent presence on the disc. From Pamela Copus's gorgeous flute playing on tracks 1 and 10, plus harp on track 2, to Randy Copus's percussion on tracks 2, 5 and 9, it is not difficult to see why some of the tracks have a 2002 feel to them. I agree with Kathy Parson's observation that this is very evident on the first track.
All the tracks are strong on this CD, but favourites include tracks 1, 3, 8 and 10. I note that Kevin dedicates Track 3,"A Million Stars" to "all those who reach for the stars". This is likely to be a popular track with his fans, partly because it is extremely beautiful, and also because it truly is solo piano.
This CD is exceptionally well presented, and has a wonderful feel to it. The CD insert contains an introduction to guided visualisation, where the listener is invited to go on a relaxing journey whilst listening to the music.
It may be of some interest that this CD was apparently going to be originally called "Leaf, Twig and Petal". I think that the change of name was a wise move, and is more befitting of the content.
On a par with "In the Enchanted Garden", this CD is right up there in terms of melodic beauty, and way beyond it with regards presentation. Kevin is using other instruments to compliment his piano playing, and this shows a willingness to move forward with his music. It, in no way, detracts from the beauty of the lead instrument.
I give this CD my highest recommendation. It is a joy to listen to from start to finish, and it is no wonder why there seems to be great excitement surrounding this disc. Stunning.

Is this Alan Parson?.......2007-05-26
Alan Parsons Project was unique, talented, original. There were feelings, emotions, melodies that were giving me a goosebumps. What is this now? Bunch of digital notes through the computer?
I have a software that creates music, you pick the instruments and... in 2 minutes the song is composed and recorded. I can even do in AC3 Dolby 5.1, its easy. Sounds the same to me and to all my friends. We have compared side by side.
I guess you know all what I am trying to say. This music is OK for people who love computer noises. And for people like me, lets wait and see what is Alan will come up next with... : -)
A Great Leap Forward for AP.......2007-05-04
I've been a fan of The Project and Alan's solo work so long I can barely remember not listening to them. Alan Parsons has always been one of the artists I listen to that somewhat deviates from what I normally lisetn to. Typically I listen to mostly electronic/industrial music, but no one can deny the themes and wonderful recordings that Alan has been a part of...pure genius. As you could probably guess when I hear Alan was venturing into the world of electronica music my palms started sweating, and my heart rate increased...I was rather excited.
I was in the store the day it came out, and listened to it imediately...and I have to say it did not disappoint me one bit. Don't be fooled this is still Alan, just in a different musical venue. It's great to hear him take risks with his music...and his programming, and composition is spot on. As you can imagine the recording itself is perfect. The only thing that initially threw me off are the tracks that had pop influence. I almost forgot that Alan was a pop artist...so it was a few minutes of adjustment to hear the electronica tracks with the pop-esque lyrics.
When the 5.1 version finally came out...again I was in the store the day it was released. I don't even have a 5.1 system currently in my house, but the extra features alone are worth the money. When I was able to listen to it in surround it was like a completely different disc...Alan has stated he wrote this album for surround and by god does it show. Alan is one to use the space within the 5.1 realm with ease, making every track an adventure to your ears.
I hope that Alan continues down this path. I really want to hear where he goes with electronic music. It's very refreshing to have someone who has given so much break free from prior prejudices.
To those who are afraid of the new AP...give it an honest listen. you will be glad you did.
5.1 Best mix ever.......2006-07-14
This is a good Alan Parsons album,
its progressed with an electronic bent from his previous albums... much better than time machine which was half way electronic,
some people complain its not like his other albums.... (they need to stop buying any cd "New" then....
the 5.1 mix is one of the best of I have ever heard...... it finally gives my stereo system a work out.....
a great release.......2006-06-30
Alan is Alan and that's all!!!
This is not his best album but this 5.1 version is incredible.
extra features includes audio commentary, lyrics, complete discography and music videos.
A must for every fun!
Magical DualDisc.......2006-04-25
I have just received the recently released dualdisc of A Valid Path. This is really magical stuff. One of the best surround sound albums that I have ever listened to and I have a lot of them in my collection. Best song is 'We Play the Game' with lead vocals of Alan Parsons himself and perfoming together with The Crystal Method. I also like 'You Can Run' with Deep E. Deep E actually stands for David Pack (D.P.), former member of another great band, Ambrosia. Furthermore the commentary of Alan Parsons on the songs (dvd-side) is very interesting.
Alan is back!

to see a collaboration between simon posford, david gilmour and michele adamson is a dream come true for me (return to tunguska).
Delightful Departure for Alan Parsons.......2007-02-19
I've appreciated Alan Parsons since 1980. His production standards and art rock imagery can not be argued with.
Still, not everyone "gets" the music of Alan Parsons. He's a niche artist, a production perfectionist, appealing to a cerebral, musically sophisticated, and often audiophile audience.
Kudos to Parsons, then, for not resting on his laurels. He's branched out, he's taken a risk here. 'A Valid Path' is a foray into electronica.
No doubt this is a different animal than earlier Parsons, and admittedly, this took a few listens before I developed a full appreciation. But I am thoroughly glad I was patient with the material.
This is a delightful album, contemporary and accessible. Production is crisp, imagery is intact, and there are some very good musical collaborations.
Parsons gives his original Project fans a shout out with Mammagamma '04 and A Recurring Dream Within A Dream, excellent remixes of original pieces. Both well done and well worth the price of admission on their own.
My only stand out critique would be the barking dogs and baby sounds that can be heard on a few of the tracks. I found them distracting and didn't feel they added any value to the content.
Yes, 'A Valid Path' is a departure, but you get the feeling that Parsons is experimenting here, toying with a new genre, enjoying himself.
The familiar hidden hand is there, but be patient, 'A Valid Path' reveals itself over time, and it's well worth the wait.
The Mystery and Imagination is Gone.......2006-11-17
I read many reviews of "A Valid Path" and was relieved to find that my opinion of this "work" was shared by many others. When I heard about this CD I thought it was going to sound great, like the beginning of Pyramid (Voyager) or "Sirius" from Eye in the Sky. I listened to this on my CD at work and couldn't believe how terrible it sounded. One of my co-workers liked it though and gave me $10 for it. I felt guilty and tried to give him $5 of it back. I can't comprehend how anyone who has enjoyed his music from the start could like this. I'm hoping Parsons will come up with something mind expanding like he used to next time. I even gave this CD more than one chance and still didn't like it enough to keep it. Some of the melodies are good but the background sounds are so monotous and some are just plain weird sounding. I know this review will get many not helpful ratings but if you believe them instead of me and get this anyway and share my opinion don't say you weren't forewarned.
Solid effort, but...........2006-11-05
I think this is a solid effort by Alan Parsons, but a few of the tracks are a bit too techno for my tastes. I listen to Alan Parsons music becuase of the quality and professionalism of the artists playing on the disc, from that stand point this disc hits the mark. But the techno stuff is not for me.
Parsons Reinvents, Comes Out Swinging.......2006-10-01
Before reading this review, I want to take a few seconds to tell all those who will listen to the album: Do not listen to any of the older Project works immediately before this. The reason why people have given this album 1 star or less is generally because they expect the old "Project" lineup or the old sound. You're not going to get the old-style project stuff with this album. Which is why I rated it 5 stars.
Now that that's out of the way, "A Valid Path" is a good way to start back up after 5 years. The album, taken on it's own merits, has excellent production and excellent engineering.
Starting off with "Return To Tunguska", Alan brings in an old ally in David Gilmour to start and drive the album. It's ethereal and edged, and quite wonderful to listen to.
The next two are the weaker links of the album, the P.J. Olsson song "More Lost Without You", which would work well on a P.J. Olsson album, but not necessarily on this album; and "Mammagamma '04", which starts out great but ends up not doing as well. The credit that I can give to Jeremy Parsons on this remix, however, is that it is probably one of the best coast driving songs that one could ever play.
"We Play The Game" is a homerun on an album which has two outs already. Excellent engineering, help from members of the Crystal Method, and Alan singing on his own...let's just say that this song is the one that really gets the rest of the album going.
"Tijuaniac" is an instrumental ditty that takes you down a level. The song makes you feel like you're in a cigar bar, relaxing, not doing anything. It's a slow feel song, written by members of the Nortec Collection. It's just a nice song, with one small area of hard screechiness to wake you up from your slumber in time to catch the rest of the song, and it's eventual mix with the next track, "L'Arc en Ciel".
"L'Arc en Ciel" is a mix of soft and hard, techno and straight up driving sound. With help from Tim "Q" Wiles (aka Uberzone), he helps to make an ethereal yet edged song that would please anyone driving down the Pacific Coast.
"A Recurring Dream Within A Dream", a remix of "The Raven" and "A Dream Within A Dream", is as close to the old Project as one would expect on this album. With Parsons doing most of the guitar work, the bass, vocals and Jeremy Parsons doing a lot of mixing, this one becomes a real treat to listen to. And besides, who doesn't like hearing Orson Welles resurrected?
"You Can Run" is this album's equivalent of "Back Against The Wall" from "Try Anything Once", a song that seems out of place, but isn't. David Pack takes the lead on this, and the entire song is good, though it probably would have worked a lot better if it was placed after "Mammagamma 04".
The final cut, this which is the penultimate, is "Chomolungma". For those who don't know, Chomolunga is the Tibetan name for Mount Everest. And this song does effectively conjure up the image of Mt. Everest, and maybe more the people around it. The keyboards in the middle have a Tibetan flavor to them, the vocals have a semi-chant feel to them, overall it is an imaginative instrumental (if one can really call it that). And with John Cleese at the end to wake you up, you can just go rampant.
Overall, the album is great, though it does have some hits or misses. But this is what happens when you take time out to reinvent, get married, and really take a good look at yourself.
And, as a repeat just in case everyone missed it at the top: If you're looking for classic "Alan Parsons Project" stuff on this album, you probably will not find it. This album is something completely different, and if you're willing to give it a chance, do so. (and check out their live concert, too. It's an experience.)

Not bad!.......2006-09-13
I enjoyed this cd. It is another decent one by this very talented musician. I really like the first 3 songs on here. For diehard DK fans: get this one.
Koz= interesting just not this time around.......2005-07-24
I got this album b/c of Koz' music. This cd isn't one that I would recommend. I thought the album was ok. Its nothing to rave about. As far as the tracks there are listenable tracks but nothing that will make you want to rush out and buy the album. I liked the following tracks: 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, and 10.
Truly something off the beaten path in smooth jazz.......2004-11-18
And I was still a newbie in the world of smooth jazz whn I noticed. This is quite a refreshing break from the typical electronically-backed smooth jazz you hear everywhere. What's typically backed by electronic drum beats and keyboards and synthesizers, is now carried out by acoustic strumming, acoustic drumming, acoustic piano, and even a banjo and violin appearence here and there. There is some electric guitar, but it doesn't at any time really take over the music, which electric guitar tends to do in most music. It's clean and clear, and gets out of the way when it needs to. The Celtic flavor of Follow Me Home really was a nice suprise in this album. The whole song is great, but it really shines through near the end once it starts to really pick up. I highly recommend this CD to anyone, if you aren't familiar with smooth jazz or Dave Koz, try it. You might find something new, you never know!
My favorite jazz artist!.......2002-04-11
I've loved Dave Koz since I saw him in perform in Richard Marx's band. I bought his first 2 CDs but when this came out I thought that this was better by far.
I like Dave over other sax artists because he tends to have a more upbeat style while mixing in some mellow tunes. My favorite tracks are "I'm Ready", "That's the Way I Feel About You", which features him on vocals, and "Flat Feet". In fact, with the latter, I can see him having fun with that song. I even e-mailed him about it, asking about why he titled it that and he graciously replied saying he has flat feet, which he inherited from his dad!

Beautiful Native American Music.......2006-03-01
This is the most centering/grounding of all the Indian drumming, chanting, and instrumental music I've listened to. It's relaxing and sometimes even somewhat haunting. But the spiritual tone will resonate through your soul and revive and strengthen your spirit.
Wonderfully soothing music!.......2001-07-27
This is a very calming and centering cd. The chants have a soothing and calming quality, and the background ambient music fits perfectly with the chants. I often hear for several hours in a row, and I feel more at peace, more centered. What better recommendation can one give?
I like the ambient background music, but not the chanting.......2001-06-16
This CD was disappointing to me. I bought it after hearing one song from these guys on a "Planet Chant" compilation CD. On the piece chosen for Plant Chant, Primeaux and Mike's chanting has a trance-provoking, ethereal quality to it. However, on Sacred Path, I did not find most of the chants to have this quality. Many of the chants on Sacred Path have a repetitiveness that becomes quite annoying after a bit. I realize that repetition is the hallmark of chanting, but I did not find the repetition of these chants to have a healing affect on me. In fact, I found some of them to be downright unpleasant. On the other hand, I did like the ambient music played behind each piece. It had a gentle and more relaxing quality than the chanting on me. Botton line on this CD: Upon repeated listenings, I find the chanting just does not work to provide me with relaxation, but the ambient background music does. Unfortunately, the chanting negates any effect the ambient background music has on me. I would not recommend this CD for relaxation purposes.
mysteriously peaceful music.......2001-02-13
This is the only CD that I own at present by these singers. There is something almost mysterious about it. When I play it last thing at night I have the best sleep of all & feel very rested the next day. Each track blends together to make a lovely sound. I really would recommend it to anyone who finds it hard to relax. Any suggestions for my next CD by Primeaux & Mike?
Spiritual Healing.......2001-02-10
In listening to this music, you feel touched by the Creator. Although good to hear anytime, these sacred chants are especially a gift when you feel alone, in a hurting space or in a "dark" time. The voices are soothing, comforting, and nurturing, bringing the "Presence" to touch your heart. Reverence, humility and healing will embrace you as you hear it. A must have.

This overly ambitious three-CD set begins strongly enough with "The Mechanic," an intense, rock-driven song cycle that affirms this quintet's status as a bright and shining hope for American pop music. There are hits ("The Rest Of My Life," "Decoration"), a moody, country-inflected experiment ("No Good At Saying Sorry (One More Chance)") and a pause for some fist-thumping arena rock ("The One That You Hated"). It's only in the disc's final moments, on the track "Figure It Out," that the excitement begins to flicker but even then the New Jersey-based band manages to stand stronger than most. Left on its own, "The Mechanic" could easily be one of the best emo records to emerge this year.
Instead, the band continue with a second act, "The Mother," which shows a great deal of promise at the start. Tracks such as the whimsical, Beatles-influenced "Hair," the Ben Folds nod "Driving South," and even the out-and-out emo anthem "A Little More Time" highlight the group's greatest asset: the ability to craft a swelling chorus that's rife with rich harmonies and jangly, energetic guitar hooks. But as quick as this act begins, it begins to fall apart as the songs growing increasingly weak, starting with "From Here to L.A." and concluding with "1000 Times a Day," an especially unconvincing tune that comes to an embarrassingly amateurish end, riddled with weak rhyme and burdened by tween sentimentality. Others, such as the ballad-y "Is It My Fault" and "I Don't Know How To Say This," an obvious Smashing Pumpkins homage, show potential but feel hastily assembled and strained, the group nearing creative bankruptcy in those final moments.
The finishing touch and the worst part of the whole collection, though, is the wholly unnecessary third act, a "soundtrack" to a cliché-filled sonic film about an unwanted child, his bruised psyche, angst-filled parents, and some other stuff that proves as interesting and original as the average slice of unbuttered toast. A note on the CD's sleeve implores us to listen to "The Path" with headphones, but the fact is that it's best to let the band limp away with its dignity intact and not listen at all. The Mother, The Mechanic, and The Path is a tragically flawed album that could have stood as a true classic had its creators known when to leave well enough alone. --Jedd Beaudoin

Could very well be the worst cd I ever purchased .......2007-02-16
Normally I can accept other people's opinions that differ from my own, but in this case I must ask if I bought the same album as the rest of you? I can accept that some people may enjoy the music of the first two disks, which I found to be rather boring and repetitive. What bothered me the most about the first two disks was that everytime the band would begin to build up to something that I thought might speed up the song or add some catchiness they would bring it right back down making just about every song completely anti-climatic. I hated being deceived into thinking the songs were going somewhere just to be fooled everytime. Then there is the third disk. What the hell is the point of that disk? What's with the computer generated voice that sounds more like a child molester than a young adult who had been abandoned by his parents? The voice aside, the songs are absolute crap on that disk. In conclusion this album is three disks full of pretentious garbage and I would not recommend it to anyone.
Disk 1= 2 stars
Disk 2= 1 star
Disk 3= Absolute Trash
Never fail to impress.........2007-02-06
...is what the early november does for me. Ever since i first heard them (about 5 years ago) I have been in love with them. When i heard that they were putting out a triple disc album, i really didn't expect anything less than amazing. Not only did they attempt something that most musicians wouldn't imagine to do...(put out not 1 new album, but a TRIPLE disc.) And they managed to make each cd as amazing as the one before. I love "The mother, the mechanic, and the path."
The rarest of things: a triple studio album.... and TEN mostly pulls it off.......2007-01-06
I was somewhat familiar with The Early November. Sure, they are a good emo-band, and their 2003 debut album "The Room's Too Cold" was ok, but I was very surprised by this album, the band's second release (issued in July 2006).
"The Mechanic, The Mother and The Path" (3 CDs, 46 songs, 133 min.) is that rarest of things: a release of a triple studio album, wow, when was the last time that happened? CD1 "The Mechanic" (11 tracks, 41 min.) is the Early November is their familiar setting, bringing straight-forward rock-emo songs, and there are many highlights, including "The Rest of My Life" and "Money In His Hand". CD2 "The Mother" (11 tracks, 41 min.) brings a more stripped-down version of their sound, albeit the songs still jump out at you here and there. Things definitely take a left turn on CD3 "The Path" (24 songs, 51 min.), which brings a mix of mostly short accoustic songs intermixed with 9 spoken pieces (the story line being a son and his therapist or something like that). The last CD is a bridge too far.
While completely different in sound, this release reminds me of the Smashing Pumpkins "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness" double-album it its creative reach. The "Mechanic" and "Mother" CDs resonate greatly, but the Early November's singer-songwriter Ace Enders over-reaches on the 3rd CD, which simply does not flow well and goes on too long. That said, props for the audacity to release a 3CD studio album. This release sure isn't for everyone, but I really enjoyed CDs 1 and 2.
The mechanic, the mother, the path.......2006-11-14
The Mechanic: I felt the mechanic had in your face drum beats, guitar, and sound. It was a pop/punk/hard sound. It was the loudest disc of the 3 part series. I almost felt like the the mechanic part of the cd might be attributed to the father figure in someones life vs. the mother cd which holds the mothers figure in someone's life.
The mother: The mother cd had more of an indie music type feel to it. There were a lot of ballads and acoustic sound to it. It was very experimental and my favorite cd in the 3 part set.
The path: This cd is mellow and expermential as well. There is a female singer(along with the male voice), a narrator, and a lot of horns, violin, etc. The path would be the son or daughter of the mechanic or the mother and the path that they chose to follow. I am more conviced that I am right about the three parts of the cd from the song session 01. The lyrics surround a father and the son leaving home and involve a narrator explaining the story. This 3 part cd is more than just music; its telling the story of someone's life.
This 3 part disc shows how talented The Early Novemeber truely are. It shows a vast amount of different musical sounds. This band is extremely versatile.
Put Your Headphones On and Lay Back.......2006-10-26
This ambitious, long-awaited release from The Early November certainly did not fail to please. Front man Ace Enders proves to be a song writing machine producing a triple disc that provides a variety of flavors to please all. Every music fan can find something they will love on this album.
THE MOTHER: This disc really shows TEN breaking the mold and stretching their musical muscle. The album is a little lower keyed comparatively to The Mechanic however, it's just as satisfying. "Hair," the Beatles influenced fourth track, is the definite gem of this album. It's a feel good track with incredible lyrics, a catchy rhythm, and great acoustic and electric guitar licks overlapped. The album closes out with "1000 Times A Day" which is an amazing folksy tune which tells a story of life long sweet hearts. Clever lyrics and toe-tapping acoustic picking will make you smile wide.
THE MECHANIC: Die hard fans of "The Room's Too Cold" may gravitate more towards this disc of the triple disc set. This disc is riddled with electric licks and strong drumming. The album begins powerfully with, "Money In His Hand" a song which seems to describe Ace's struggle in the music industry. "Decoration," track three, will have fans reaching for their hairbrush mics, air guitars, and invisible drum sticks. Ace sings vocals with a passion on this track that is reminiscent to "The Room's Too Cold." All music fans will relate with "Long Talks," a serious track that discusses our daily struggle to find truth in our lives--get out your lighters and sway.
THE PATH: Clearly printed on this disc is: "please listen to with headphones on." If one takes this disc seriously for what it is--a story--then it will act as an amazing compliment to this triple set. The Path tells a story of a boy growing up who is neglected and encounters trials and tribulations while finding his way in the world. Scruffy dialogue is paired with music which makes the story come alive--seriously, get out your headphones.
All in all, this album is incredible. I believe that one can appreciate this album even more if you take the time to research the making of this album and what the band and Ace Enders went through to create this masterpiece. It will bring a whole new meaning to the music. Rock out.

A RAINBOW PATH.......2007-01-09
WONDERFUL FOR ANYONE INVOLVED IN THE HOLLISTIC ARTS: POLARITY, REIKI, MASSAGE...ANY ENERGY WORK. HELPS TO CLEAR ANY ENERGY BLOCKS AND SOOTHE THE AURIC FIELD.
Excellent Healing Music.......2001-05-27
This music promotes the balance of the bodys' energy centers and is a gift to the ear as well. Each selection begins with the tone of a particular chakra which leads into a composition written in the key of that chakra.
Its good for background music in body work as well as just anytime listening. The music is easily felt vibrating in the chakra centers and energies and emotions can be felt shifting and changing with each piece. Its nice to know we can listen to music that will enrich and balance us on many levels. Thanks Kay!!!
A magical journey, not to be missed.......2001-03-27
This is an lovely piece of music; definitely New Age, but not wandering all about aimlessly, with no definite melody or composition. Nor is it minimalist. Rainbow Path really takes you far away on an exotic journey and it is not to be missed. A relaxing, delightful work and good for chilling out, putting kids to sleep or just have on to relax by at home.
Essential Item.......2000-12-18
This one is an essential item for me. I love Castles (#4) the most. If you do meditation or chakra work or any type of healing, this is a necessity not a luxury.
Do not listen to this while driving the car. ;-) Do listen to it when you get home from a day of "heck" at the office or school. Do listen to it as you do your meditation work. Do listen to it when you work on your grounding and centering. Very relaxing and simply gorgeous orchestration!
One of my favorite pieces of music of all time.......1999-07-14
I've listened to my fair share of New Age and this is one of the best pieces of music in the genre. I listen to it on a regular basis, and not because I meditate, it's just consistentlty amazing.
Kay Gardner is one of the best flute players I've ever heard, and excellent piano player and a fascinating composer. The opening song, "Processional" is also excellent music for a wedding processional. I also recommend Ocean Moon and Garden of Ecstacy by Kay Gardner.
