Relaxation.......2007-05-23
Steven Halpern is the master of relaxation music. It feels as if he knows the secret code to relaxation. This is the same for all of his meditation CDs. Chakra suite is one of the best CDs in chakra series.
Great Music.......2007-03-13
Anything Steve Halpern creates is soothing and wonderful and this CD is no different.
Amazing.......2007-03-12
Absolutely love this CD....every track a joy and we listen to it daily. The tonal quality unbelieveable. Have purchased other CD's from this artist since this purchase. Will not disappoint.
Unwinding music.......2007-03-02
Excellent music to let your mind and worries wonder. I think it's his best. Great for meditation, relaxing, and just focusing on the core joy of being.
Chakra Suite.......2007-01-17
This cd of chimes and bells is an instant avenue to relaxation and meditation. It calms, soothes and balances our chakras. I've used it for myself to meditate and realign my energies; on my staff to calm them on a hectic night at work and over the loudspeaker for the patients to hear when they got up in the morning. It is healing music.

Different versions of this album available!.......2007-06-17
Just a quick note to let any prospective buyers know that there are different versions of this 2002 album out on the market; the one displayed here offers nine tracks (see full list above), while the one I received actually offers eleven tracks (as listed below):
- Inner Peace
- Travelling Among the Stars
- Angels of Peace (not included in the version displayed above)
- On Walden Pond
- A Touch of Grace
- Deep Peace
- Heartnotes (not included in the version displayed above)
- Sanctuary of the Heart
- Unknow Country
- Time Being I
- Time Being II (not included in the version displayed above)
The tracks that are obviously missing from this other edition are Faerie Ring and Inner Journeys. Also, note that there is actually a 1984 album from Steven Halpern with the same title (Inner Peace) which contains 13 different tracks, so it's quite easy to be confused about this...
Apart from this, the music is of course lovely. :-)
Relaxation music.......2007-04-11
CD cover was cracked but CD plays fine. Music is very relaxing.
Wonderful Introduction To Soothing Music.......2007-03-11
I've always enjoyed Steven Halpern and this album is no exception, but while reading some of the customer recommendations posted on this site I discovered a group by the name of M E H D I (pronounced meddie). After an online search I found their site (S00THINGMUSIC.C0M -type it in lower case) and listened to the samples...
I was instantly blown away by the quality of this music and so I gave it a try and now that I have listened to these CDs several times I really must say that although I'm still a Halpern fan, I find M E H D I to be a great addition to this CD. I have them both in my car multi-disc CD player and love the way they compliment each other. I highly recommend that you give these Instrumentals a try or at least JUST GO LISTEN TO THE SAMPLES, I have a feeling you'll be glad you did.
It is what the title suggests........2007-02-21
This is an excellent CD for doing Reiki, meditating, or just relaxing. Very, very nice.
Solid Work.......2007-02-17
This is a perfectly good body of work, however, for meditation, I need sustained sound. The fact that the songs end so often is off-putting and interupts the flow that one is trying to achieve while listening to music of this type. If the songs blended into one another, it would be a more invaluable addition to my collection.

One of the fundamental criticisms of New Age music is that it puts people to sleep. Here, Steven Halpern, one of the founding fathers of New Age, makes that his mission and, as you might expect, does an effective job of it. Drawing on catalog material from the early 1980s, Halpern builds an attractive collection of delicate, lighter-than-air sonic textures that nicely serves the intended purpose--to fill the silence with something prettier than white noise. Halpern does so by blending electric and acoustic piano, plus additional keyboards, to create soothing, improvisational, cloudlike musical abstractions that often convey the tranquil randomness of wind chimes in a soft breeze. The liner notes also promise your subconscious will be exposed to a series of subliminal, sleep-encouraging affirmations along the quiet, unstructured way. This may sound like so much frou-frou to the unconverted, but for anyone sincerely interested in a sleep aid, Halpern's disc is a certified snoozer, a New Age music box. Other New Age discs may accomplish the same purpose as Sleep Soundly, but few will do it as persuasively. --Terry Wood
Customer Reviews:
Works for me!.......2007-03-23
I purchased this cd because I am a nurse who varies shifts (some days, some nights)and find that my sleeping habits can get very mixed up. I have recently begun to use this cd to help me sleep during the daytime if I am working that night. It works like a charm. The music is so relaxing and soothing. There are no annoying sounds that come out of nowhere. Like it says on the cover of the cd, you will never hear the end of the cd because you are asleep! I can vouch for that. I highly recommend this cd.
not sleepy enough.......2007-03-02
Too repetative, made me want to speed up the Brahams lullaby. Just made me agitated. However my 8 yr. old daught listens to it many nights a bedtime and loves it. I like his Chakra CD much better and find it more relaxing.
Great CD For Falling Asleep.......2007-02-09
We have purchased several CDs to help us sleep, but this one is by far the best. My husband and I was able to fall asleep pretty much before the first track is finished or at most the beginning of the second track. I don't think I can even recall what the third track sounds like... It plays Brahms Lullaby in several versions (trio, duet, solo) along with some other songs, but it does it in a way that is very soothing.
I have strongly recommended the CD to other family members and my collegues.
ZZzzzzz is right!.......2007-01-13
During the first 5 minutes I told myself this is rediculous how is this going to get me to sleep?
Well after another 5 minutes I checked out and went straight to dreamland.
I woke up refreshed and full of energy. I always suffered from not being able to fall asleep, worrying about little things. The cd is great, I can't hear my own thoughts.
I'm a dj and since using this cd my ears are no longer tired and I can mix my music properly. Love it
works wonderfully for the little ones too.......2007-01-12
We have had trouble with our 2 year old staying in bed. She seems to think night time is a good time to bounce off the walls :) We started playing this CD and within 2 nights she was sleeping soundly without trouble. She shares a room with her 4 year-old sister who loves the CD as well. She will ask to have it played every night. It is very soothing background music.

Great CD.......2007-06-05
I can't say enough about this CD. It is great to meditate to. If you just want to take a 20 minute vacation, it is possible with the help of Steven Halpern's music and sounds then Emmett Miller's soothing voice on this CD. Highly recommended!
The best I've ever encountered.......2006-07-01
This CD is the best I've ever encountered as far as relaxation CD's go. The first time I listened to Autogenic Stress Relief I was scared of feeling relaxed (because I don't know how to relax). The second time I was used to the process and it was wonderful. I can't brag on this CD enough. I can concentrate, I can focus, and I don't worry about things as much.
Beautiful Guided Imagery and Music.......2006-06-25
Emmitt Miller leads you thru four different relaxation sessions, each about 20 min. in length. His voice is very soothing and the background music is perfectly in tune with the guided imagery. The music is performed by Steven Halpern. I agree with the previous reviewer that the trip to the beach is the best one on the CD, but the others area very good too. You can use in the middle of the day or before going to sleep to aid in relaxation. Very much worth the money for this CD.
Please see my other reviews on Amazon.
The Ultimate Relaxation.......2005-02-27
Dear Friends,
I have been enjoying the use of this tape for many years. It has four separate 20 minute relaxation sessions on it. Some have muscle tension progressive relaxation exercises, which are fantastic. But my favorite session is "A Trip to The Beach." It is a guided imagery session that relaxes you, takes you on a trip to the beach, and guides you in seeing your body as healthy and strong. You can use this tape for an afternoon relaxation session, or you can use it as you go to sleep at night. Even though it will bring you "up" at the end, I have never had a problem just sleeping soundly through it when it is bedtime. I've used this tape when going through severe health challenges and stressful situations. My husband also enjoys listening to it at night. I highly recommend it.

Album Description
Songs For The Inner Child is a collection of chants and lullabies, both traditional and contemporary, sung with the gentle voice of a loving mother. The songs are healing and soothing for listeners of all ages, carrying powerful messages of affirmation and comfort. Over 200,000 copies have been sold worldwide.
With Shaina Noll on lead and harmony vocals, New Age keyboard artist Jim Oliver produced and contributed instrumentally to many of the tracks. Rusty Crutcher, best known for his "Sacred Sites" series of albums, plays saxophone on "Deep Peace". Shaina's husband, Richard, contributes harmony vocals and recorder tracks.
Songwriters Cris Williamson, Libby Roderick, Susan McCullen and Bill Douglas are among those whose songs are featured on the album along with Shaina's composition, "Peace Be With You".
Lyrics include:
"How could anyone ever tell you you were anything less than beautiful...how could anyone ever tell you you were less than whole...how could anyone fail to notice that your loving is a miracle...how deeply you're connected to my soul..."
"You can relax now...you are the child of God, and that will never change"
"Peace be with you, oh my dear one...peace be with you, precious child...angels hover all about you, they protect you, night and day...angels over all about you, they will guide you on your way..."
"Deep peace of the running wave to you, deep peace of the flowing air to you, deep peace of the gentle night to you, moon and stars pour their healing light on you..."

How did you know Shaina?.......2007-05-12
I was injured a year ago and have had two surgeries and months of physical therapy. As well as physical healing, I have been working on spiritual enlightenment. This CD spoke to me immediately and it was as though I knew the words before she even spoke them. I use the music as an affirmation of who I am, where I have been, and where I am going. One of her lovely songs simply states " How can anyone ever tell you you were anything less than beautiful?" What a beautiful affirmation of your value and worth as a precious child of our Creator. Awesome!
Song For the Inner Child.......2007-04-02
If your self-image has taken a hit lately or if your life has been full of stress lately, this album of beautiful, soothing uplifting music was meant for you. It will refresh you and validate you.
Comforting, Healing.......2007-03-09
I first heard the first song on this CD in a psychology class. A number of us sat there and wept.
I use this CD for myself and with clients in the healing work I do. I find it comforting in hard times, the things my Inner Child needed to hear when she was young, but didn't.
I am grateful this CD exists.
Wonderfully healing message.......2007-01-10
This beautiful CD is ideal both for children and adults who will benefit from its soothing message of their specialness. I especially recommend it for those who have experienced a difficult or painful childhood and are in need of healing. Let Shaina Noll's lovely voice and the beautiful lyrics of these songs sink into your psyche. She sings a message we all need to hear and embrace.
Affirmations for the soul.......2006-11-12
The words to these songs could be imagined as coming from a precious parent, from a trusted friend who has boundaries, or from ones Higher Power. The mellow music and the affirming words reached my soul.

Steven Halpern has more than 60 recordings in circulation, including audio projects ostensibly designed to enhance memory, wealth, and weight loss. He even has his own trademarked slogan--the Halpern Effect(tm)! (Take that, Mozart.) Thus, it's easy to view Halpern's high-volume output since 1975 less as art and more like a commodity. Gifts of the Angels, a 68-minute compilation (sampling eight albums and adding two original pieces), offers a few nuggets that suggest Halpern's music at times can stand on its own merits, detached from all of its deep-bliss, New Age pretensions. "Celestial Prophecy," is a nicely detailed (which is not to say complex) excursion on solo piano that briefly stirs the senses, and the title track from Higher Ground is a delicate space-music standout. Meanwhile, the 1970s-flashback tonality of Halpern's electric piano (one piece, "Earthrise," can be traced to Halpern's debut release, Spectrum Suite) dates several of the tracks included here. Nevertheless, the disc's pace, which drifts deeper into the ether on each of the last five tracks, is nicely constructed for those aiming to nod off into a state of contented nothingness. --Terry Wood
Customer Reviews:
I have used this CD for TEN YEARS..........2006-12-23
As a massage therapist, this is the ONLY CD I have used consistently in my practice over the past TEN years. There is something about this particular CD that I absolutely love and that has not been duplicated in other CDs I have used (literally hundreds!) Steven Halpern comes up with awesome music! I have many of his other CDs as well, but NOTHING comes close to "Gifts of the Angels". I am now using my 3rd copy and will buy another when this one is worn out. Many of my clients ASK me to use it in their massage sessions and ask me where to find Halpern's music. Superb.
Welcome to the warm embrace of angels!.......2006-08-31
When much of modern day's rock music and the civilization's pressure on people's lifestyle has a stressful and bad influence on the well being Steven Halpern's music is a blessing. The Godfather and inventor of the New Age music that has a healing and relaxing purpose makes music that puts the body in it's own rhythm and leads into a state of balance and inner peace. Gifts of Angels does all this, but adds an extra dimension with its beautiful angel song, making this an absolute world class New Age album. The music puts the brain waves in an alpha state and sometimes my heartbeat even gets down to 40 beats per minute, leading to a sense of peace and relaxation at the same time as its get me ready to meet my everyday life as a more balanced and happier human being. To have the opportunity to lie down and do nothing, just listen to this beautiful music, and let it fill your entire body with peace and comfort is a luxury that I think every human being should have the opportunity to do and that everybody needs to do once in a while. Unfortunately many people don't have the knowledge about New Age and the way it helps us to a better life. Bands like Rush, Journey and Def Leppard gives us the rush and entertainment that we need to be energetic while going to the gym or driving the car fast on a sunny summer day. Steven Halpern's music gets the body in a state of balance and peace and helps us to get more concentrated and focused. The price of this CD is not just the price of another CD, it's an investment in a better life, like buying a miracle pill that gets you healthier and helps you get away from illness and an unhealthy life, a pill that never will end.
Gift of Angels.......2006-08-21
The music is just that! It sounds like you're in Heaven. Halpern scores again!
This is truly music from the angels.......2006-03-24
I listen to this CD when I am meditating and while I am taking a bath. It allows me to relax and truly be in a state of heaven. I love it.
life saving music.......2006-03-07
I did not expect this but I was really buying this for myself, turns out my daughter likes this at night so she can fall asleep. My daughter is 4 and very active, she never seems to know when to rest and relax.
I decided to play this one night just to ease the mood of the night and she was asleep by the 4th song. We play this cd every night. thank!, you thank!, you thank you!
I love this cd because now I can have her go to sleep at a time that is normal for her age instead of an adult time.
Thanks, I recommend this cd for every one that is tense and needs a good easy winding down. I love it

Album Description
Saxon are British through and through. Not only are they among the founders of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal that kick-started a new musical genre in the early Eighties, they've also upheld the theme of their native country in their lyrics as well as in their music for some 25 years. Pretty much the same can be said of every aspect of their new, haunting album, The Inner Sanctum. From their impressive songwriting with its powerful sounds and ambitioned lyrics about eastern revolutions, British Kings and Queens and the attitude of great warriors, to their striking cover artwork, Saxon unequivocally stand by their origins. At the same time, the band surrounding vocalist Biff Byford display an energy that's almost physically perceptible. Byford rightly explains: "The Inner Sanctum is the most powerful album we've ever recorded."
The North American version of The Inner Sanctum comes packaged with a bonus DVD featuring videoclips and Saxon outtakes.

Saxon Kickin'.......2007-06-27
If your a fan of Saxon add this to your cd collection. It's a cd/dvd combo. The clarity of the dvd is amazing. It's just like you are front row at the show. Under rated band to say the least. They rock hard for sure. Saxon is like Motorhead to me. I don't think either band has a bad album !!
saxon once again!!.......2007-06-19
It's been awhile since they've had a real good hard rockin'release .The
dogs of war was the last real good cd I think. The others that follow
were ok but seemed to go to a heavier sound than from what they were known
for. It's great that they came out with this in thier old form, reminding
me of crusader, strong arm and innocense. This truly is worth buying !!.Oh
and not to forget solid ball of rock.
Another great Saxon album!.......2007-06-05
Back in the mid-80s, Saxon, along with Iron Maiden and Def Leppard was supposed to become one of the biggest bands of the NWOBHM movement, and while Iron Maiden and Def Leppard achieved worldwide fame and fortune by going in completely opposite routes, Saxon chose to pander to the hair metal crowd and alienated most of their former fans along the way. Surprisingly the band turned their sound around and has been quietly releasing consistently great Metal albums since their return to form album "Unleash the Beast" in 1997.. that's 10 years.
Most new Metal bands don't last that long!
Their new album, Inner Sanctum pretty much follows the same style and sound of their previous four CDs, without any signs of watering down their heavy sound, slowing down or altering their to fit in with the new metalcore crowd.
Saxon sticks to the type of music they practically invented in the early 80s: Pure, Classic NWHOB Heavy Metal.
With the exception of the album opener, "State of Grace" the rest of songs in this album can't really be considered modern Saxon classics like "Travellers in Time" from Metalhead or "The Thin Red Line" from Unleash the Beast, but, nevertheless, the songwriting on this CD is far better than most of what passes as metal music these days and it is consistent enough to make this album an enjoyable release that will please any Saxon fan.
I'VE GOT TO ROCK (TO STAY ALIVE).......2007-05-30
IT'S AMAZING THAT THIS BAND HAS BEEN AROUND THIS LONG & PEOPLE STILL DON'T KNOW WHO THEY ARE. THEY JUST KEEP PUTTING OUT THIS GREAT MUSIC. THIS IS WHAT EVERYBODY SHOULD BE LISTENING TO.THIS IS HIGH VOLTAGE INDUSTRIAL STRENGTH ROCK-N-ROLL. READ THE WORDS TO I'VE GOT TO ROCK (TO STAY ALIVE) THAT'S WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT.
Yep, Saxon will take young rockers to school.......2007-05-23
With a band like Saxon it's hard to say if this album or that album is their best. With an entire generation of some of the best rock and roll ever made it's simply a matter of whether they are on top of their game or not. There is no question about this album, they are on top of their game.
The production is excellent. Lyrics have the usual mystic thought provoking images as well as the brute force power of the rock and roll love affair they've been living forever. Biff delivers these lyrics with dead on talent and power. Biff's voice is a tad raspier than in the younger days but that is not a negative. He sounds excellent. Full range, tough and never better.
They may look a bit Minnesota but they definatley play California

Reissued with sparkling audio and exclusive photographs, this first, 1971, Mahavishnu album certainly vies for the title of the greatest of all jazz-rock recordings. Through spiritually questing flights of intense fury and exquisite quiet, it never loses its sense of inexorable force. Jan Hammer (keyboards), Jerry Goodman (violin), and bassist Rick Laird are completely sympathetic with guitarist John McLaughlin's vision as the music abandons the standard jazz format of successive solos in favor of rapid, heightening, braided, interactive contributions--a structure much drawn from Indian classical music. Astoundingly, the music retains discipline. For that, thank Billy Cobham: Through all the expressive, irregular meters, he remains a steady, resolved engine of percussion, vastly resourceful but ultimately reserved. McLaughlin's alchemy distills many worlds of music-the jazz-guitar masters, flamenco, blues, Indian forms, and his experience in the innovations of the seminal jazz-rock outfits of Miles Davis and Tony Williams. Of course, distortion, feedback, and arena-rock amplification were crucial, as was the influence of Sri Chinmoy, McLaughlin's spiritual guide. "The Noonward Race," "Vital Transformation," and "The Dance of Maya" are music for the ages. -- Peter Monaghan

a must own album.......2007-05-27
While bands like Deep Purple played some lightning fast guitar rock back in the day, little did most people know that "The Inner Mounting Flame" by the Mahavishnu Orchestra featured some of the fastest and craziest rock and roll put on record. Okay, so the album is remembered mostly for being a blend of jazz and rock, but seriously, many parts of this album are VERY close to heavy metal. It's amazing an album with this much speed and relentless power actually existed in 1971.
If there was ever an album that needed to be heard from the very beginning all the way to the last track, it's this album. Why? Because each of the eight songs gradually builds and progresses into other musical sections. The album was designed to be heard all the way through, to appreciate the entire thing as a whole.
One thing about this album that really fascinates me (and puts emphasis on the fact that it's an "orchestra") is the way each of the band members seem to be playing their respective instruments and seemingly making their own compositions by themselves. It's like each member of the band has their own theme going on, and when the time came for the band to come together and put their ideas on tape, they did so without blending in with what the other members and instruments were doing. For example in one song, while a fast and furious violin jam is occurring, at the same time, a burning hot guitar jam is taking place. It opens a door for the listener and gives you an option "Do I want to listen to the violin, or the guitar?"
I think the best word to describe this album would be "detailed" because that's exactly what the music is. Any time you are given an option on what musical instrument you'd like to listen to (because of all the creativity taking place) you KNOW you are in for a treat.
Even though the album is only 46 minutes long, it really feels like it's much longer than that. A very interesting listen. Oh, by the way- why does "The Dance of Maya" sound like something King Crimson was doing at the time? Seriously, listen to the Islands album and see if you can hear some similar musical ideas from both artists. Also, listen to the King Crimson song "Larks Tongue in Aspic Part II" and tell me there's some similarities between that and a song on this album called "Vital Transformations". I think there's a connection between the two bands.
There are some bits of melody thrown in occasionally too. I think if the album has one weak point, it's a bit of a dated sound to the whole thing. One second you're listening to some really intense guitar playing, and the next it's like the Carpenters walked in the studio. Strange.
You really should own this album. Whether you like jazz or rock, there's something here for everyone. The question is- can you handle it? It's one intense listen. Just keep that in mind before listening to it.

while i am not a big fan of john mcLaughlin or mahvishnu orchestra - i cannot deny that they really had something with this album.. It is something new - not just an extension of miles davis - they were breaking new territory... There is a cohesiveness amongst the band members - of course abounding with improvisational talent - this is fushion but first of all it is music.

Never a band to do things by halves, Dream Theater here delivers a two-disc extravaganza with a title track that clocks in at a prog-tastic 42 minutes. Very much in the style of its 1999 studio predecessor, Scenes from a Memory, the "Six Degrees" piece, which occupies the entire second disc, is divided into eight movements beginning, of course, with the overture. It's meaty stuff, though musically it alternately noodles and thrashes about in a somewhat haphazard manner while singer-lyricist James LaBrie's struggles to make an impression over the stunning instrumental onslaught. The first disc serves up five pieces averaging about 10 minutes each that hearken back to the grungier sound of 1994's Awake. The result is an album that fulfills fans' expectations. These guys have found a formula and they're sticking to it. --Mark Walker

Customer Reviews:
3.5 stars, a bit too ambitious.......2007-07-07
Like most other Dream Theater fans, I was practically foaming at the mouth when the band announced that their follow up to 1999's Metropolis Part 2: Scenes from a Memory would be a double album. It turns out that Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence would feature one disc containing 5 individual songs, and a second disc containing one epic song.
Disc 1 is by far my favorite of the pair, as it contains some really fantastic songs.
The Glass Prison is the first in a series of songs that conceptualize the 12 steps of the Alcoholics' Anonymous program. Beyond having a cool concept, it is a heavy-hitting metal track, which is a refreshing change from SFAM's overwhelming "progginess". Almost instantly it became one of my favorite Dream Theater songs, and one that I wish the band would use to open every single live performance.
Blind Faith is another great track. It's less intense than the Glass Prison, alternating between relaxed and upbeat, particularly during the instrumental passages. The chorus is a bit jarring, but during the verses James LaBrie's warm vocals are like another instrument enhancing the song's already great melodies.
I like the idea and lyrics behind Misunderstood, but I wish this were either a shorter or faster-paced song. James lays down another great vocal performance, but the pace of the song is just too slow for a 9-minute track.
For all its focus on both sides of the stem cell issue, The Great Debate just comes across as "Dream Theater does Tool", and that's just not a good thing. 13 minutes of Tool-style vocals and clips from news programs make this easily the worst song on this disc.
Disappear is an interesting enough song with a strong Radiohead influence. I don't love it or hate it, and it does serve as a nice transition to the second CD.
Disc 2 features the 42-minute epic title track, broken into 8 chapters, each of which (save for the Overture) deal with a different aspect of mental illness. This disc features everything great about progressive music - lengthy song structures, intricate instrumental work, and an interesting concept. It also features everything negative about progressive music - self-indulgent instrumental passages, artistic pretension, and yes lengthy song structures. I can't help but compare it to Dream Theater's previous epic song, A Change of Seasons. 6 Degrees comes across as a group of individual musicians screaming "look at me, look at me!" A Change of Seasons is an actual SONG, and a damn good one at that. It's tight, focused, and when it ends you're left panting for more. There are some impressive moments (About to Crash and Solitary Shell come to mind), but as a whole it just leaves me cold (and checking my watch).
It's funny, but I've seen quite a few reviewers here who share my opinion of this album, and none of us can bring ourselves to give the album the three stars it probably deserves. It's as if associating Dream Theater and a 3-star rating will cause our brains to melt. Well, disc 1 is worth at least 4 stars, and you have to grant disc 2 at least 3, so I'll round up and call Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence a 4-star effort. If they had added a couple of tracks from disc 2 to the first disc and called it quits, I'd probably be hailing this as one of Dream Theater's best efforts.
Dream Theater is the best!.......2007-05-13
If you're a Dream Theater fan and do not own this CD already.... What's wrong with you? Buy it! Now!
If you've never heard of Dream Theater.... What's wrong with you? Buy it! Now!
If you truely like good music, why don't you already own this CD? Buy it! Now!
If you think Brittany Spears or Justin Timberlake have any talent at all, then you wouldn't understand Dream Theater at all and you shouldn't buy this CD. Also, if you like Brittany or Jusitin or both... and that kind of music, Do NOT buy this Dream Theater CD..... Just go do your homework because you have to get up early and go to Elementary School tomorrow.
This is a GREAT CD!
Shameless Pandering Hurts This Release.......2007-05-03
I have a real love/hate relationship with Dream Theater. On the one hand, the band's hyper-technical approach and constant commitment to the "rules" of progressive metal usually ensures that on any given Dream Theater album, there will be at least a couple of fascinating musical moments, an almost mechanical complexity which can be entertaining, and prompts to play "find the musical tribute" at least several times during the course of an album. The downside, however, is that the band's "signature" original sound is weighted by blatant derivativeness, an inability to harness complexity to musical flow, and an overarching, almost smirking "aren't we clever?" attitude conveyed by an unwillingness to show restraint at the most inopportune moments. My own "inner turbulence" stems from the fact that I'm always drawn in by the promise of futuristic sounds from Dream Theater, but that the band's work feels somewhat "off".
"Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence" is one of the band's weakest studio releases, in large part due to the second CD of this two disk album. The first disk shows a pretty fair amount of promise, albeit often blatantly derivative. "The Glass Prison" features some pretty good heavy riffs, and an introductory super-fast series of guitar sweeps from guitarist John Petrucci, which would sound at home on a Symphony X album. "Blind Faith" is the album's strongest track, as it not only sounds like a purely Dream Theater track (as opposed to mimicking another band), but it also features a great melodic instrumental turnaround in the middle of the song. "Misunderstood" and "Disappear" are both somewhat derivative of Radiohead, but manage to be pretty decent songs, with the latter having some pretty hefty emotional weight, due to the almost disturbing use of keyboards. "The Great Debate" is where the album starts showing its weak spots. Starting with their pseudo-EP "A Change of Seasons", Dream Theater's lyrics have often been amateurish and lacking in subtlety. With "The Great Debate", their attempt to address the topic of stem cell research falls prey to this weakness, and the blatant Tool homage on the musical side of things doesn't work here.
However, the side-long title track is what really sabotages this release. The pompous "Overture" section really sets a bad tone for this song, as it sounds like a rehearsal for a Disney movie soundtrack. The rest of this 40 odd minute song seems almost cobbled together artificially from outtakes from "Metropolis II: Scenes From a Memory". The sacharrin sweet approach from that album doesn't work here, and attempts to "toughen it up" with heavier interludes such as the "War Inside My Head" section fail to balance things out. It seems like the band was pandering to the same people who cried "sell out" when "Falling Into Infinity" was released. The calls for a "truly epic" (i.e. 20 minutes or more in length) song from the fanbase should have been ignored until they had more solid material and a better, cohesive approach.
"Six Degrees" barely eeks out a 3 out of 5, and only does so because of the presence of some entertaining material on the first disk. While the band is slowly improving its collective skill at smoothing out the robotic aspects of its songwriting skills, this album doesn't quite show evidence of it yet. While Dream Theater may admire Rush greatly, you wouldn't really know it when comparing "Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence" to Rush's very organic takes on the progressive rock genre.
One of the most rewarding albums ever.......2007-04-29
Following the groundbreaking impact of Scenes from a Memory, which was perhaps the most important progressive metal album of the late 90's, everybody was curious what Dream Theater would do next. After nearly three years, the band came up with Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence, which couldn't be further from the sound and style of its predecessor. Packed into two discs, the second one being a long-form composition broken into eight tracks for easier navigation purposes, Dream Theater chose to prove they were a truly progressive band. Rather than putting out another album that walked in the footsteps of Scenes from a Memory, they released a double CD album, with three of the five tracks on disc one exceeding the ten-minute mark (and "Misunderstood" clocks in at 9:34 anyway), thus sticking to their artistic integrity rather than commercial stardom.
It baffles me how so many Dream Theater fans have turned a blind eye to this album because it sounds so different from their earlier work. I always thought that's what makes this band so special -- that they never repeat themselves and cater to the lowest common denominator. It is true that the first CD sees Dream Theater turning to their influences, and not only Rush and Metallica this time, but also to bands like Pantera on the groove-inflected "The Glass Prison", easily their heaviest song to date. It begins with the same static sound that finalised Scenes from a Memory and picks up an incredibly beautiful bass figure that sounds almost exactly like an acoustic guitar. Myung's tone is clean, big and uber-heavy. With crushing rhythm guitars, pounding bass, and aggresive vocals, the song is elevated to prog metal heaven when Rudess' understated keyboards appear behind the main instruments, and even Petrucci's shred-intensive guitar that many have lambasted (especially on Train of Thought) makes an invaluable contribution to the excellence of the song. Unlike its successor, the shred parts on this album all emerge after carefully built up sections on this one with an intense keyboard and bass unison; or the superb "Blind Faith", which is graced with a wonderful bluesy shred piece. It is here where Dream Theater comes back to their vintage prog roots, boasting a stunning solo piano performance, protruding bass arrangement, and all-around songwriting brilliance.
The moodier pieces "Misunderstood" and the closing piece "Disappear" are both captured by undeniable Radiohead atmospherics. The flickering synth patches during the acoustic guitar intro on "Misunderstood" help thicken Petrucci's waves of dissonance at the end, adding to its intensity; whilst "Disappear" is arguably the most underrated Dream Theater ballad. The effects, sad piano melody, and Labrie's otherworldy vocals are too good to dislike. "The Great Debate" is the band's nod to the intricate rhythm arrangements of Tool, with both Portnoy and Petrucci providing a solid backbone to the song. Even Labrie's vocals evoke Maynard Keenan during the verses, but Dream Theater does add their own signature to it, mostly with Rudess' rising symphonic keyboard aesthetics and the clever mixing of opposing arguments that blast out from either speaker.
The second disc is far from "let's do a real long one-song album" attitude. It brings forth their unparalleled songwriting ability, highlighting the movements with cleverly arranged recurring musical and lyrical themes. The CD is about different individuals with mental illness, from bipolarity to post-traumatic stress syndrome; to sychophrenia, autism, and separation anxiety. What makes this disc an utter success is that the themes are perfectly summarised at the end; and they are also greatly tied together through a strong melodic theme that is started off with Rudess in the beginning, developed by Petrucci (what a nice guitar tone!) in the middle and climaxed by guitar and keyboards at the end. A bit like Awake in this aspect, the unity is maintained throughout without ignoring strong songwriting ideas. Labrie's excellent singing is backed nicely by Portnoy and Petrucci, portraying the different moods and confusion of the characters. "The Test That Stumped Them All" is unbridled heaviness, underpinned by killer drum staccato and Labrie's unique "diaologue"-style vocals. On the slower paced material, the helplessness of a mother being separated from her child is brought to the fore on "Goodnight Kiss", which begins peacefully and gradually transforms into its tragic finale -- give a listen to both the cries of the baby and its mother under Petrucci's moving guitar solo and Rudess' far-reaching synth colouring. The band's Peter Gabriel influence is demonstrated on the storytelling ballad "Solitary Shell" (note the similarity to Gabriel's "Solsbury Hill"). This proves that, besides mindblowing instrumental wizardy, Dream Theater are also capable of churning out catchy pop songs with strong hooks and a perfect balance between electric and acoustic guitar.
It took me years to fully appreciate this album, but even when I claimed disappointment upon its release, I kept coming back to this disc because I was drawn unconsciously. Now five years after its release, I can safely say this has been my most played Dream Theater CD post-SFAM, and it ranks right up there with their best. With flawless production done by Portnoy and Petrucci themselves, it is among my all-time favourites and perhaps their most detailed work. It's definitely worth the effort -- it will reward you like no other disc once it clicks with you.
My Favorite Dream Theater Album.......2007-02-12
After seeing Dream Theater 35 times in four countries and owning their entire discography, this is without a doubt my favorite and possibly their best. I'm not one into going through many details, but if you're here as a new fan, take my word for its greatness. My favorite track is one of their five greatest songs ever, "Blind Faith".
"Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence" is a brilliant piece of progressive rock and puts Dream Theater in a class with Emerson Lake & Palmer and Yes. When I met Mike Portnoy, he autographed the CD jacket's lyrics page of "The Glass Prison" and I nearly cried. When I saw them play "Six Degrees" in its entirety at Radio City Music Hall with an orchestra, I nearly cried once again. For I see something special in Dream Theater that sets them apart from others: their purity and perfection.

Album Description
The sound of the Tibetan singing bowl is known for its healing properties and its ability to induce states of deep meditative absorption.
This cd features two recordings. In track one, a single bowl is struck softly and regularly , providing a slow and steady rhythm for deep meditation. In track two one bowl steadily hums as it is played while two other bowls ring out intermittently.

Excellent CD! Incredibly well done!.......2007-04-09
My teacher started using these CDs in our classroom while we did some thinking and meditation exercises and I couldn't believe how relaxed I felt surrounded by 30 people. The vibes in the room were amazing and I immediately asked her, after class, what the CD was and where she had gotten it.
She showed me it was the Tamboura CD and said they were all available on Amazon. Now I have the Chanting Om, Tamboura, and Tibetan Singing Bowl. Each are wonderful and I highly recommend them!
This CD inparticular has a perfect rhythm to it, which is wonderful for meditation.

Puts you in touch with a very special place inside.......2007-03-30
This is a fascinating recording mainly for it's simplicity.
I have been an avid meditator for many years I always loved the sound of the gong. And I find that this recording really is inducive for meditation.
True meditation music should turn you to the space of the heart, it should still and focus the mind.
The bells remind me of the meditation retreats I have taken with venerable Buddhist meditation teacher Thich Nhat Hanh. The bowls were played during meditation but also throughout the silent retreats I was fortunate to take. Every time I hear the sound, it reminds me to take a pause and breathe with ease.
I am not sure what kind of singing bowl they used for the recording but sounds like one of those authentic
7 metal singing bowls. You can generally tell the difference by the tone and the quality of the ringing.
Traditionally the 7 sacred metals a singing bowl are made of:
1-Copper (Venus)
2-Gold (Sun)
3-Silver (Moon)
4-Mercury (Mercury)
5-Iron (Mars)
6-Tin (Jupiter)
7-Antimony (Saturn)
Tibetan legend says that iron was sometimes replaced by metals from the heaven, where meteorite was
sometimes added.
In my experience, the sound of the Tibetan singing bowl is so awe inspiring because it is such a primodial sound, like the ocean of the clap of thunder.
The vibration created an exquisite space inside, but the space is not empty but full of calm and joy.
Very nice addition to our collection.......2007-03-29
There is one word to describe all three of the CD's. Hypnotic.
We discovered that the Tibetan Singing Bowl is wonderful fo play very softly during meditation. Especially the harmonic chimes of the gong on the first track.
Whether during meditation, yoga, or work, these CD's are perfect for anyone looking to achieve a state of peacefulness.
