Editorial Reviews In addition to containing medieval to modern works for the harp, this album contains such favorites as "The First Noel," "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlement," "Greensleeves," "Oh Tannenbaum," "Joy to the World" and "Oh Little Town of Bethlehem," all especially arranged for the harp by Miss Schlomovitz (see keyword "schlomovitz" on AOL, or "schlomovitz" on the GOOGLE search engine, etc.). "Variationes Pastorales sur une Vieux Noel," in the style of a twelfth century Gregorian chant, is the theme of Marcel Samuel-Rousseau, a twentieth century French composer. Richard the Lion-Hearted, king of England in the 12th century, collaborated with his servant Blondel de Nesle in writing "Lai et Rotrouange." "Pavane and Variations" by de Cabezon (1510-1566) and "Hachas" by Ribayaz (17th century) are two dances of the Renaissnce. The late great French-American harpist, Marcel Grandjany, has captured the charm of the medieval mood in his "Noel Provencal." The late Benjamin Britten performed a great service for harp lovers when he wrote his "Ceremony of Carols" for women"s voices and harp. The "Interlude" is for harp solo. "Andante Berceuse,", the third movement of a suite in five movements by the late Claire Polin, was written for Phyllis Schlomovitz to play at the First International Harp Master Class at Hartford University, Connecticut. In the words of a music critic, it is a "..glowing, cogent statement..A little masterwork.." "Behind the Barracks," by Carlos Salzedo, is a highly descriptive toy soldier's march. Finally the album concludes with Miss Schlomovitz's hauntingly beautiful arrangement of "Silent Night."
