I am dissappointed that Bullet In The Chamber isn't on this but all in all it's classic Loverboy. If you like Loverboy you will love this cd.

A Great Overview of a Band that Bridged Arena Rock and Hair Metal.......2006-11-23

Think about it. Loverboy is a band that doesn't exactly fit the stale arena rock mold because of their sheer propensity for fun. But then again, their quasi-proggy keyboards don't exactly translate into the hairspray crowd's standard repetoire. As such, I think purchasing this compilation can not only lead to the acquisition of one heck of a party album, but it can also serve as an anthropological study.

Ugh, that sounds pretentious, but it's worth pondering.

Anyhoo, the tracks here are all, for the most part, superb pieces of 80s pop rock. "Working for the Weekend" and "Turn Me Loose" are the obvious highlights, but the collection is laden with highlights. In fact, every song is a 4 to 5 star track in its own right. Well, except for the ponderous "Lovin' Every Minute of It." That one's just dull. Everything else is a blast, though. The best thing is that the songs are peppered with a most amusing kind of synth workouts that just accentuate the goodness of the material. Fantastic.

Overall, fans of music from Kansas to Poison will enjoy this. This is upbeat music to celebrate the good times in a rockin' manner, but it's also got a pseudo-intelligent gloss over it. Great stuff, and a definite value. Buy it today!

Good But Carefull .......2005-09-16

Including Mike's weak duet with Ann Wilson of Heart ( by far a stronger vocilist then you Mike...so let her shine ...next time ) can't be right...

Were the heck is Strike Zone....one of their best songs on their last origianal run albums..Still very good...but definitly misses in some key areas!

Brings back lots of memories.......2005-03-03

I've always liked Loverboy, they had some very great songs. This disc, though maybe not as extensive as it could be, is good enough, in my opinion. It contains the songs I like and it brings back a lot of great memories. If you're a Loverboy fan and you want more songs, you'll have to get at least one more CD, of theirs, to give you all you want. As for me, I'm content with this compilation. Recommended for the 80's rock fan.

great buy.......2005-01-21

If you like Loverboy, this is the album you want. Unlike a lot of greatest hits albums out there, it actually includes most of their biggest hits. With the exception of Queen of the Broken Hearts - which I didn't remember, so I obviously wasn't missing that one. But there are a few favorites on here that I'd forgotten about and that was a nice surprise.

I was going to buy my old favorite album (Get Lucky) but this one includes all the music I need. A definite must buy for any fan.

The perfect sample !!!.......2007-01-28

I think this CD is a rare specimen that contains practically all the best songs produced and interpreted by this group, The Classics IV. Since the first time I reviewed the list of songs included in this release I told me: "great!, bingo!, You've found the perfect sample of the music of this group!!"...and bougth the CD and had the pleasure of being transported back to late 60's when I was at High School and got captured for the romantic atmosphere created by these melodies while thinking in taking a walk along the beach down a sky plenty of stars with my girlfriend aside...Well, I recommend to lovers of soft rock and everyone who desire relaxing moments, to buy this product. The price is really a bargain, the sound recorded is the original one and all the songs -I guess- are able to carry us to unforgettable memories. "Spooky", "Stormy", "Traces", "Everyday with you girl" and "The funniest things" are, long ahead, the best of this group but all the others are worth to be appreciated as well.

Great 60's Music.......2006-11-15

I bought this CD to fill in my collection with some favorite 60's tunes. "Spooky" is their best song and very pleasant to listen to now and then. There are two other cuts I also like to hear: "Stormy" and "Traces". The rest of the material is a cut below - but not offensive. There is a unique quality to the singer's voice that I like. This CD is worth a buy.

One track... but what a track!.......2002-02-07

Although a couple of its members went on to much better things with the Atlanta Rhythm Section, most of Classics IV's late 60's music falls squarely into the "not really worth the effort" drawer. But... in amongst their catalogue of distinctly MOR white soul there is one quite brilliant track: "Spooky". Featuring a ridiculously catchy organ riff, beautifully atmospheric vocals, a wonderfully gutsy sax break and a chugging bass line that sounds as though it was recorded in the studio's broom cupboard it was, and still is, instantly unforgettable. Straight to No 1 in the USA and lost without trace in the UK it was voted by Brian Wilson no less as the best single ever made in UK's "Mojo" magazine several years ago (modesty itself as he actually holds the title with "Good Vibrations") and fully justifies the cost of this album on its own. Alternatively, hunt it down on one of several 60's compilations. Either way, you won't regret it!

Which One Should You Buy?.......2001-05-15

There's not really that much I can add to my review of "Very Best Of The Classics IV," that will expand your knowledge of the group. But this disc of Greatest Hits differs slightly from that one, leaving this question: Which one should you buy? Both discs contain 10 songs, so both are woefully inadequate, as being representative of the group. The six songs in common ("Spooky" "Soul Train" "Traces" "Everyday With You Girl" "Stormy" "Change Of Heart") are definitely the group's best hits. This collection was compiled long after Classics IV broke up, and has their hits from 1969-70 ("Midnight" "The Funniest Thing" "Where Did All The Good Times Go") and a title cut from one of their albums ("Mama's And Papa's"). I personally favor the other tracks on Very Best ("Sunny" "Mary, Mary Row Your Boat" "24 Hours Of Loneliness" "Something I'll Remember"). Totally missing from both sets are "Waves" and "Strange Changes," as well as the group's last big hit, "What Am I Crying For," which was recorded after changing labels from Imperial/Liberty to the MGM/South brand. Price is also a consideration. Greatest Hits is 5 bucks cheaper than Very Best. So, which one should you buy? I bought Very Best first, and I recommend you do the same. Sometimes album cuts are better than songs that get released, and I feel with Classics IV, that was the case. But if you can afford it, buy both. You'd then have all 14 songs that are currently available by this under-rated group.

Marvellous!.......2005-11-26

I don't play violin, and I can't even read music, but as a classical music amateur I find this CD outstanding. Even an incompetent like myself can easily understand why Perlman is regarded as one of the greates violinists ever. This is a marvellous collection of pieces. The rendition of "Chanson Russe" by itself is, in my opinion, worth more than the price of the CD. If you listen to the audio samples on Amazon's pages and you like violin you will surely understand why I like this CD so much. I am grateful to People like Perlman, who make this world a better place to live in.

All I can say to this CD is it's the best I've ever heard. In this CD, Itzhak Perlman truly demonstrates his best performances of the past years. I have always been a great admirer of Perlman, but since I own this CD, it's all I've listened to for the past three months. I myself play the violin and Perlman has become an inspiration to me, almost a musical idol. For any of those violinists out there, especially young musicians, who don't feel any excitement about playing the violin, listen to this CD and I promise you, you will strive to being able to play like this man does. He is truly the best musician I've ever known.

Selection of Songs?.......2006-07-02

Perlman is a man of extraordinary clarity and tonality also one of my favorite violinists. After I finish practicing a piece I usually find a recording to listen to different interpretations. Most of them are by Perlman and Heifetz. Unfortunately this album has some obscure songs and the songs itself do not do justice to Perlman what some other songs may have done. Still it is important to broaden the scope, so I would recommend this to all music connoisseurs :). btw i'm only 16 so...don't take this review too literal huh?

Perlam is already a great player like the whole world knows. But the music selection couldn't better! I espacily like the piano accomplimant. Perlman pays the pieces with true style. The working realtionship between Perlman and the Pianist is truly incredible. Before geting any of Perlman's other greatest hits albums, get this one!

This collection of familiar tunes will provide a relaxing hour with one of the world's premier violinists. However, the combination of "The Old Folks at Home" and "Motto perpetuo" is somewhat difficult to assimilate. At any rate, Perlman is a listener's joy!

Thanks for the memories........2006-05-28

This CD features 65 Television theme songs from the late '40s to the early '60s. Most of the more famous shows from this era appeared on Volumes 1 and 2 of this series, so there are some pretty obscure shows on this one. Who remembers "Karen" or "The Everglades"? Of course, there are also some fondly remembered shows, like "Tennessee Tuxedo", "Make Room For Daddy" and "The Untouchables". But there isn't quite as much nostalgia value for me this time around, since many of the themes are from shows I never saw.

Not My Favorite!.......2001-12-06

A few years ago when I was in a TV theme phase I got all the Television's Greatest Hits CD's and most of the collection is good but I was disappointed with Vol 4, probably because I have never heard the majority of these themes and I was bored with The CD, the only themes I have ever heard are Lassie, Make Room For Daddy, Father Knows Best, Ozzie and Harriet, Davy Crocket, Gunsmoke, The Fugitive, The Untouchables, and Candid Camera, the rest are TV shows that I have never seen syndicated reruns of so I don't know their themes. I guess a person should just stick with the Television's Greatest Hits CD's that have themes of TV shows that they actually grew up watching or saw on Nick at Nite or TVland.

Inconsistent, but still great.......2000-05-02

Lots of fun, and I'm glad to have it, but can you really claim any artistic merit for the Roger Ramjet song?

Two other minor points: It's kind of silly to have The Wonderful World of Color on an album called Black and White Classics. Also, I was extremely disappointed in the Fugitive cut without the voiceover. Come on -- is your most vivid memory the music, or William Conrad's voice, " Dr. Richard Kimble, an innocent victim of blind justice..."?

Still, I'm glad I have it. Where else are you going to find Beany & Cecil, Captain Midnight, Soupy Sales, etc. A lot of old friends are here.

The words of Bob Hope's theme song say it best -- "Thanks for the memories."

I love it, but I really want is a CD of old TV COMMERCIALS! "Winston Tastes Good Like a Cigarette Should..." Speedy's song from Alka Seltzer, "Coke For The Ta-aste Of Your Li-i-ife", etc. Thanks.

This is an excellent CD featuring 20 of the Everly Brothers best recordings for Cadence Records. There isn't a bad song in the bunch. The only quibble I have is that they could have fit at least 10 more songs on the CD. "Be Bop A-Lula", for instance, is a great song that got left off. Still, 20 songs is more than a lot of Greatest Hits CDs include, so I recommend getting this CD.

The Everly Brothers did their very best work on the Cadence label, and this collection puts together their best known cuts and some superb lesser known tracks.

All of the big cross-over hits are here, led by Bye Bye Love, Bird Dog and All I Have to Do is Dream. No one could put the pain of a failed romance into music like the Everly's, be it the eternally hopeful sound of When Will I Be Loved or the agonizingly heart-broken I Wonder If I Care As Much. Still, they weren't afraid to have fun with their music either, and the playfully cute lyrics of Poor Jenny, Problems and I Kissed You help offset the often somber tone of the album.

If you are an avid fan of the Everlys, you will love this collection. If not, you owe it to yourself to discover just how good they really were. Cadence Classics: Their 20 Greatest Hits is just the ticket to do it with.

Worth 10 Stars.......1999-09-07

This is probably their best collection of hits, and the Everly Bros. beautiful harmonies are still as timeless as ever. Now I am asking for help from other Everly Bros. fans-would anyone out there know where I can find their Christmas album-Christmas With The Everly Brothers & the Boys Town Choir-either on vinyl, cassette or cd? I am asking a few mos. ahead of the holiday season in case I there is hope of eventually finding it in time for Christmas. If anyone can provide a few tips it would be greatly appreciated.

Some of the finest songs of the late 50s and early 60s. Their influence can be felt on many important groups which followed them. You may have heard of the Beatles and Simon and Garfunkel.

The difinitive single disc Cumbia colelction available & in print.......2005-10-22

There are by far difinitive single disc collections that feature Cumbia's from Columbia from the 1950's, however thsoe are next to impossible to find in the USA, so thsi collection is the best and easiest to locate. If you want to go back and investigate the roots of 50's Cumbia, you'll have to search out bootlegs from Colombia and Mexico. This cd features some original versions of popualr Cumbis's and some are vintagem however there is a variety, and the music is tropical, and great for dancing, and livening up parties. The rhythms and percussions(congas) are irresistable. There is an almost hypnoctic sound to Cumbias, they are very addicting, you will dance when this cd goes in the player. A great cd!

Muy sobroso Cumbias de Colombia!!!.......2005-10-22

These are the hottest Cumbias from Colombia. Great rhythms, spicy percussions, and simply fun party and dancing music. A variety of bands are sampled here, mostly well known in Colombia, all on the legendary discos Fuentes label. All the bands are exellent, and they are all well known among fans of tropical music in South & Centro America.
These really are classic recordings, and they are meant for dancing and fiesta. So put your dancing shoes on, and get ready for some percussion filled fiery(muy picante)Cumbias!!!

If this cd of the best Cumbias from Colombia doesn't satisfy you, no Cumbia cd ever will! This is top notch, 1st class danceable Cumbia directly from Colombia. All the great bands including Sonora Dinamita are on here, and even though the collection doesn't go as far back into the 50's & 60's, it gives a good idea of a spicier less commercial sounding Cumbia, these bands do NOT use any synthesizers, it's al lreal percussion baby! GREAT STUFF! Vamos a bailar!

Clasica Cumbias de Colombia.......2005-10-20

OK so maybe these are not "clasico" in teh sense of being from the 1950's, but they are classic versions of some good authentic Cumbia de Colombia. This cd is as good as any, if not better. There are no synthesized instruments like many of teh modern Sonideros, these are all real musicians and great percussionists. Everything on the great Discos Fuentes label is generally good, and un-synthesized. These sides are MUY TROPICAL, and very exotic(& sound very 1950's) and are gaurenteed to liven up your next party waether you are Latin or gavacho! In fact the rhytms are Cumbia, but there are more touches of Sun Montuno, Salsa, and other forms of tropical mixed in, for a more varied flavor. Muy sobroso!!!

Buyer beware!!!!.......2005-09-14

The songs are great but where are all the instruments? If you dont care that they've been all replaced by synthesizers on this CD or claim you can't tell the difference, then by all means- disfrute!

Great selection, but quality could be better........2006-12-26

First off, this cd has some of my favorite classical songs on it. The songs themselves are great, and many are instantly recognizable for all those who didn't know their names.

The recording quality of this cd isn't great. For most people with average ears and average hardware, that won't make a difference. For the extermely intent listeners, the recording quality isn't great, and, while I would recommend any of the music on here to anyone, I just wouldn't reccomend this particular cd to those who high-powered hardware and are picky.

Violinist Nigel Kennedy long stopped annoying or surprising concertgoers and disc buyers with his looks and manners--the cover of this CD pictures him with red and blue paint on his face, and he's biting his violin. If that irritates you, his playing certainly will not. Here, two movements from Vivaldi's Four Seasons act as bookends to, among other pieces: a Satie Gymnopédie, exquisitely played, with lovely embellishments near its close; Vaughan Williams's floating Lark Ascending; a stunning, virtuosic Bach solo (never before released); a soft-edged Bach chorale; a soupy, sentimental "Danny Boy"; a slightly overwrought "Scarborough Fair"; a piece by Kennedy himself; and a few other surprises. Kennedy's tone is lush and warm, and his emotionalism almost never overwhelms the music. Greatest hits? More like greatest encores. But definitely a terrific 71 minutes of fiddling. --Robert Levine

When I got this CD to use for my "music appreciation" class that I teach to a small group of homeschooled students, I thought I might use just a few of these songs to listen to in class. But we will definitely be spending more time on the whole album--this is one of the best violin solo albums I've heard for a while, and Nigel Kennedy is one of the best violinists I've heard, ever. One can hear the energy and emotion in each song played. The arrangements are beautiful, and the choice of songs on the album are wonderful. This is one to actively "listen to". And yes, I'd love to see a live concert DVD!

This is terrific, top to bottom! I can write for hours about the joys of Nigel live, the visual and musical daring, the goose in the arse of most orchestral experiences and the rapturous, clamourous, rock and roll reaction he elicits in the most staid of settings. Classical music was not ready and remains uncertain how to deal with him, mostly because he has the chops and the creativity first and foremost.
This collection underscores his remarkable repertoire. Be it Vivaldi, Beethoven, Kreisler, Elgar or Hendrix, Kennedy upends the expectations of one and all. His intensity is extraordinary, his playfulnesss on stage a joy, his interpretive skills incisive.
At this point, though, what would be even more welcome than this terrific collection, would be a DVD of the man himself in action. I can still hear the crowd at Philadelphia's Academy of Music howling, that's right, howling, for an encore. Sawalisch was not sure what to do. The Orchestra looked stymied. Out came Nigel with the fiddle attached to his forehead. He shouted at the audience that they were possibly further off their rockers than he and then asked if anyone in the orchestra knew any Willie Dixon. One of the double bassists did and they launched into "Gingerale Afternoon." Sheer genius, especially on the heels of Beethoven's volin concerto. Lu himself would have dug it immenseley.
Pick this disc up, then write to his label and insist on a DVD.
