Customer Reviews:
Impressive but a bit unusual.......2005-08-12
First and foremost Christian Lindberg is simply the most amazing trombone player ever, you should listen to his playing of Vivaldi's Winter on trombone, on his website's jukebox, at www.tarrodi.se The best song on the CD has to be Arabenne, which is written by Lindberg himself. Also Mandrake in the Corner is close behind, even people who aren't trombone connisseurs will enjoy these symphonic dazzlers. Some of the pure trombone songs such as Docter Decker the Dentist and the Fafner Fanfare for Four Frogs!, are technically impressive as well as colorful. Some of the other songs are a bit unusual such as the ballad of kit bones, with all the sound effects and singing. Some of the songs are a bit weird or unusual, such as Kokakoka, which has Lindberg trying to achieve quadrophonic sound with his singing plus three note multiphonic playing, truly amazing. The remaining songs on the CD are good but not amazing. Its a rare CD because of its uniqueness but it may not please everyone.
Loads of fun.......2001-12-31
It seems that Lindberg has got together some talented Swedish chums to play a bunch of his compositions which involve lots of great things. Hear lots of very cool compositions - the Mandrake in particular is a great work and deserves many more outings from others. Hear fast, high playing - you may not be a fan of his "machine gun" Flight of the Bumblebee, but this technique with these pieces works a dream. Hear great interpretations - the performance is so convincing on these musically difficult works. You can't fail but to warm to this charming disc, even if you're not a particular fan of his more traditional recordings.
