Album Description
Unlike iyts counterparts in the Western World, the Indian Flute is an unpretentious bamboo reed. A legendary instrument, reputed to have been played by none other than the divine cowherd Lord Krishna himself, it has remained unchanged through the ages. Not eeasily amenable to the rendering of the complicated structure of classical Indian Music, its mastery is made doubly difficult by its very simplicity. Malkauns and Hindolam are comparatively similar scales of Indian music, in the north and south respectively. Malkauns is derived from Bhairavi that and Hindolam is derived from Natata Bhairavi Melakarta. The mellowed sub dominant in malkauns is developed, as a contrast, in Hindolam. Hariprasad details his paying with an Alap, Jod, Jhala and Ghat. Dr.N.Ramani renders his Ragam tanam Pallavi in Kanda Jathi Triputa(5+4) thalam (beat). One instrument played in two styles. The North and South ignite a combustion of musicla splendour widening the horizon of our listener's understanding and appreciation. Oriental Records has attempted to stimulate the growth of our listeners musical awareness by bringing out recordings such as this one that enable one to embrace the richness of the many treasures that lie inside the world of Indian Music.
