Customer Reviews:
forgotten treasures.......2002-04-03
According to the liner notes, Fransesco Guerini was a very popular composer in the 18th century. Time has not been kind to him, and his works have been forgotten over time. Listening to this CD though makes me realize that his music is charming, enjoyable, and well worth hearing. These sonatas for cello and keyboard, ably performed by Sarah Freiberg on the cello and Byron Schenkman on the fortepiano and harpsichord, are really lovely works--they are melodious and tuneful and relaxing to listen to. The performers use instruments of the time, and the sound is intimate and warm. Take a listen to Guerini--it's worth it!
