Album Description
Conductor Urs Leonardt Steiner and Guitarist Dhyani Dharma Mas have come together to compose and transcribe the music contained in this recording to expand the existing repertoire for guitar and chamber orchestra. They have created a rich aural experience of both the old and the new made memorable by the collective mastery of their disciplines and the virtuosity of the musicians in the San Francisco Sinfonietta.

Dhyani Dharma Mas is a Buddhist Gypsy born in Nice France in 1956. There, as a child, he discovered the universe of the guitar with his masters Henri Dorigny and Ako Ito, to whom this work is a tribute. He advanced his guitar studies in addition to composition and chamber music at the Conservatory National de Region, where he later graduated. He also studied with master Alexandre Lagoya at the International Music Academy.

He is a laureate of the Villa Medicis Hors les Murs, the Prix Sacem and the Grand Prix de la Ville de Nice. He also received a research grant from the French ministry of culture and worked in instrumental research at the IRCAM in Paris. His works have been published there by Billaudot Press.

Maestro Urs Leonhardt Steiner is international renowned as a conductor, guitarist, educator and composer. He was born in Switzerland and has graduated from both the Universit¨auta;t T¨autu;bingen and the San Francisco Sinfonietta as well as the Community Music Center Orchestra of San Francisco.

Founded by Maestro Urs Leonhardt Steiner in 1993, the San Francisco Sinfonietta has emerged as one of premiere chamber ensembles in the vibrant music world of California Bay Area. The SFS has toured internationally. In Oaxaca Mexico it was the featured orchestra in the International Classical Music Festival. It has also performed in the Badischer Kultur Sommer in Germany and in Switzerland.
