A Must For Your All-Time Collection!.......2004-06-28
The best way to fully appreciate this CD is to listen to it at any moment of your life! That is because it is applicable at all times, forever, now, and a hundred years from now. Those of you who may be new to Small's works, may want to take a gander at her 5 other albums here: www.cdbaby.com/jennifersmall
There you will read and hear her tunes, her life, and the excitement that another CD is soon to come our way! YEAH!
Restful but alive.......2002-04-19
Jennifer Small's Positive Persistence seems somewhat unique to me. It is classical in style and intellectual content, but almost New Age-ish in its relaxing tone. Perhaps this is a moderm example of what folks have in mind when they tout the meditational qualities of Bach, Handel and Mozart. The music provides structure and ideas for the mind without leaving unanswered questions at the end of every phrase. I find this album very nourishing and pleasant. I play it often, especially while planning projects or resolving personal questions.
Excellent Classical Musicianship!!! A+++ Material!!!!.......2002-04-18
This music is simply beautiful! It's beautifully executed arpeggios clearly indicate deep and serious classical training! Jennifer Small's classical touch and intense knowledge of technical musical theory is clearly heard throughout each unique original composition. There is no octave work, as indicated by another reviewer, who obviously has no musical theory backround. These compositions contain moving single note melodies that are romantic and soothing in nature. Arpeggios(this is the correct spelling) are performed in several keys throughout the compositions, again indicating the composer's knowledge of transpositions and modulations. As a retired professional music judge, I must insist on Jennifer Small's wonderful display of music and music theory intelligence. This CD, Positive Persistence, along with Small's other 5 CD's (albums), Content Destinations, Relevant Paths, Christmas Concertos, Traffic in Paradise and Well Lit Passage, demonstrate the composer's delight in composing, performing and providing serenity to her audiences worldwide. What other CD can you suggest to all ages, babies, children, teenagers, adults and senior citizens, that always brings a smile and comfort to their spirit and soul? Jennifer Small's album, Positive Persistence, along with her other 5 Album CD's, bring that smile and comfort to all of us of all ages! We are blessed to have this album in our collection! It deserves and A+++ rating for its music content, its layout and jacket design, its lyrical poetry inside the cover, and to its composer, Jennifer Small.
The Best Music for all Occasions with Outstanding Melodies!.......2002-04-17
What a wonderful collection of delightful and uplifting melodies! Beautiful harmonies with a comforting flow! This album can be played continuosly for all occasions. I highly recommend this CD, Positive Persistence, for all ages. Refreshing classical quality of musical notes. A nice CD to put on at the end of a hard day, and also great to lift you up and put you in a state of bliss.
Wish I could rate it higher, but..........2002-04-16
I tried to give this one a chance, but the more you listen the more you realize that there really isn't much to it. The harmonies are not rich or complex, the flow doesn't take you anywhere. The musicianship seems fairly elementary. Lots of melodic arpegio style, slow octave work. Has some semblance to a less talented version of George Winston.
Maybe as background music, but even then, I think there are much better alternatives.
