A Hundred Miles or More carries the subtitle A Collection, and what a curious collection it is--cuts from soundtracks, side projects, and tribute albums, plus guest duets on other artists' albums and five previously unreleased tracks. In other words, this is a collection of Alison Krauss performances that have never appeared on an Alison Krauss album, though it holds together better than such a grab-bag approach might suggest. Highlights such as her duet with Brad Paisley on "Whiskey Lullaby" and her a cappella rendition of "Down to the River to Pray" from O Brother, Where Art Thou? will be familiar to most Krauss fans, though it's doubtful that many share her infatuation with retro rocker John Waite (with whom she revives his "Missing You" and duets on a cover of Don Williams's "Lay Down Beside Me."). Other projects represented range from Disney to the Chieftains to the Louvin Brothers (she duets with James Taylor on their "How's the World Treating You." There's minimal contribution from her Union Station band--making this a solo release by default--and little information to indicate whether the previously unreleased tracks were outtakes from earlier releases or recently recorded for this one. --Don McLeese

Now That I've Found You: A Collection

Album Description

"A Hundred Miles or More: A Collection" is comprised of 16 tracks, highlighting Alison Krauss's career outside of her traditional releases with longtime band Union Station. The album features Krauss's collaboration with John Waite on the single "Missing You," as well as Krauss's contributions to film soundtracks, including the Oscar-nominated songs "The Scarlet Tide" and "You Will Be My Ain True Love," written for the motion picture "Cold Mountain," and "Down to the River to Pray" from the film "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" Known for her collaborations, Krauss also includes several duets in the collection such as the 2003 hit with Brad Paisley, "Whiskey Lullaby," and her duet with James Taylor for the tribute album "Livin', Lovin', Losin': Songs of the Louvin Brothers," "How's the World Treating You." The collection debuts five new songs: "You're Just a Country Boy," "Jacob's Dream," "Simple Love," "Lay Down Beside Me," and "Away Down the River," all of which feature Krauss as a producer.

4 out of 5 stars A Hundred Miles or More.......2007-07-09

I purchased the CD for my husband, a long-time A. Krauss fan. I heard the CD once and fell in love with it and immediately played it again. The Don Henley duets are fabulous. Very relaxing and enjoyable CD.

5 out of 5 stars A selection of songs on previous CD's.......2007-07-09

I was not disappointed in this CD however I had heard most of the songs previously on her other CD's. I still recomend this because I could listen to her sing anytime.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful! back to her bluegrass & gospel roots........2007-07-03

I first heard Alison Krauss doing a solo playing interview on Fordham's WFUV radio. Instantly loved her work and my wife loved the CD I bought and all we've found since. Her best ever was the double album Alison Krauss Live. Since then she's gone through a period of trying to slick up her image and go more mainstream with her music. Her strength is bluegrass and gospel where she is the sweetest and most compelling performer I've ever heard. She was the backbone to the O Brother Where Art Thou sound track and we saw her at Carnegie Hall in a terrific recreation of the O Brother soundtrack with all the original performers. This album is a wonderful return. Highly recommended.

4 out of 5 stars Awesome Voice!.......2007-07-02

I love her voice and all of the songs. I do wish there were more Bluegrass songs on there, but overall I am very pleased with the cd!

5 out of 5 stars A HUNDRED SMILES OR MORE.......2007-06-27

As is mentioned in the program notes in the CD booklet, this compilation includes 4 unreleased tunes as well as songs from outside her previous solo and Union Station recordings -- many of these from movie soundtracks. I was first introduced to Alison Krauss on the Soundtrack, "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" and was thrilled that the song, "Down to the River to Pray" from that soundtrack was included on this compilation.

The album as a whole has a folksy, country-western, bluegrass and Celtic feeling to it. There are some soft, subdued songs, such as "Scarlet Tide" (with just vocal, piano and cello); Celtic-flavored tunes such as "Molly Ban"; more mainstream country, such as the wonderful duet with Brad Paisley on "Whiskey Lullaby"; a little pop with accompaniment, similar to Berlin's "Every Breath You Take," on "Missing You" (one of two duets with John White); and even a little Disney("Baby Mine")!

Allison's voice is clear, soft and pleasant, but she can also play a mean fiddle, as heard on "Sawing on the Strings"! While some of her lyrics might be considered "depressing" to some, the eclectic mix - and especially the fiddling - still brings a smile to my face.

If you buy just one Alison Krauss compilation, this would be it.

Jimmy Buffett may have made his millions, but that doesn't mean that he has eased up on his workload. After releasing 33 albums, mounting grueling annual tours, and fashioning an entire industry and lifestyle out of his signature song "Margaritaville," Buffett trots out this two-CD collection. Yet, Meet Me in Magaritaville, which spans 30 years, isn't merely a retread of his long, storied career. Buffett has written two new songs for the package and re-recorded six alternative versions of fan favorites (including a moving version of "The Captain and the Kid," which he included for his ailing father, who died shortly after the album's release). He's also added two new cover songs--a spicy bossa nova version of Fred Neil's "Everybody's Talking" and the Beach Boys' "Sail on Sailor"--as well four live tracks, which shows the singer at his best, conjuring up his own Yuppie Atlantis, an idyllic place where no one has to wear shoes, the sun is always shining, the bar never closes, and Junior Mints are always available at every cinema. A must-have collection for every Parrothead (or aspiring Parrothead), if only for Buffett's track-by-track descriptions. --Jaan Uhelszki

5 out of 5 stars typical island music.......2007-06-27

After visiting south Florida and the Keys on several occasions. I heard some of his music whilst there. Bought the cd hoping that it would take me back there whilst being in rainy cold england. It does! Job done. It takes you to sandy beaches, blue skys and laid back bars. Some tracks are a bit cheesy but typical of the sort of music you hear down there.Turn your heating up, grab a beer, close your eyes, put this album on and your almost there.Almost!!

5 out of 5 stars Great music!.......2007-03-25

Bought this cd for my brother-in-law for Christmas, and he says it is wonderful. All the songs from over the years, he just loves it.

5 out of 5 stars It's Jimmy Buffett, what else could you ask for?.......2007-03-19

This album is a collection of some of the best stuff Jimmy Buffett has recorded. It's a blend of old and new. Many of the songs are like old friends that you always like to spend time with and although some of the songs are newer, they fit right in with your circle of friends.
I highly recommend this album to anyone who enjoys slipping away to Margaritaville for a little while. It's music that crosses the generation gap. I'm in my 40's, my parents are in their mid - 60's and my daughter is a teenager, and we all enjoy Jimmy Buffett. If you purchase this album, you won't be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars the best JB collection EVER!.......2007-03-07

I love this collection of 38 JB songs! It has all of my fave songs on it, but I love it especialy because my 2 of my fave songs, In The Shelter (disc 2) and the ever popular Come Monday (disc 1) are together in one collection! I listen to it all the time!

The naughtily titled Immaculate Collection culls 15 of Madonna's Top 10 singles from 1984 to mid-'90, plus 2 new ones that continued the run (the dirty, trunk-bumping funk of "Justify My Love"--a Lenny Kravitz production that justifies his entire career--and the danceable desperation of "Rescue Me"). Rooted in disco and classic AM pop from girl groups and ABBA to Strawberry Alarm Clock, Madonna made savvy, touching music throughout her first golden era. These tracks retain their sonic and historical significance while, like "She Loves You" or "Rocket Man," still brightening any space they're being played in. Far more than just a wise, irreverent image-maker--like the Beatles or Elton, come to think of it--Madonna during these years was the gift that kept on giving, forever fresh, sexy, hooky, and joyously sharp. --Rickey Wright

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Major Madonna Mine.......2007-07-09

This album has all the big hits and best stuff from Madonna from 84 thru 90. Great compilation of the stuff from the first phase of Madonna's career. Gotta have this if you're a fan of the 80s.

4 out of 5 stars Good, but not without flaws.......2007-05-27

While I'm reluctant to speak at all negatively about an otherwise fabulous compilation, I do have to concede to being a bit dismayed by the extent to which certain songs on it have been changed - the opening track of Holiday in particular (for which, sadly in my opinion, the Immaculate version seems to have pretty much become the default version - i.e. the one most likely to be heard when Holiday is played somewhere). If the original versions of this and Lucky Star were felt to be too long for such a collection, why couldn't their 7" Edits have been used instead?

Having said that, I certainly think its remix of Material Girl is an improvement and I like its slightly more tropical-sounding (to me) version of La Isla Bonita at least as much as the original as well; but in addition to my criticisms of Holiday and Lucky Star (and I'm not as keen on the Papa Don't Preach present on here either), I should perhaps also mention that Like a Prayer has likewise undergone a little too much remixing for my liking, since it has given the song what I'd describe as a less haunting feel. Not that this means I consider it to be a poor remix though - on the contrary, I think it's rather good as far as radical remixes go. But I do still question whether it's appropriate for a hits album in view of how different it is from the version of Like a Prayer that was actually released as a single and which made this song so famous.

It would've been nice too if a few of Madonna's other pre-1991 hits (e.g. True Blue and Who's That Girl?) had been included, but I can understand why they weren't given the time constraint likely in place. Nevertheless, if at some point (maybe at the end of her official singing career) an even bigger collection of her hits is produced (a two- or three-part one no doubt), I do hope that the needless shortcomings of this one will not be replicated and that the 7" versions of Holiday and Lucky Star (or at least versions very similar to them) will be the ones it contains (though I do as I said prefer the Immaculate version of Material Girl and would be quite happy therefore if that one were to appear again).

5 out of 5 stars "You put this in me, so now what, so now what...?".......2007-03-16

The Immaculate Collection spans Madonna's '80s and early '90s tracks. Conceived as a greatest hits collection, this album also contained two new tracks, the ever-so-naughty, Justify My Love and the vocally powerful, Rescue Me. Some of my favorite songs include: Vogue, Cherish, Lucky Star, Material Girl, La Isla Bonita, and Live to Tell. Every song is a classic, no duds here. Madonna just keeps on getting better and better, one of the most important, influential, and provactive woman entertainers of our generation. I also recommend her best album to date, Ray of Light as well. Enjoy this non-stop party from our girl, Madge.

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely Awesome and a must have album for Madonna fans and casual fans.......2007-03-08

This is a five star album and the only Madonna album or collection of hits you need. The album is all that and a bag of chips. In fact the 17 hits on this album show why Madonna is the queen of pop music and why she has been such a big star since the 80's. I do not think Madonna can top or produce better dance/pop music than she did in the 80's and early 90's, so she will always be remembered for these hits in my opinion. This album never gets old and stands its time. The music on this album is completely ageless and feel good music.

5 out of 5 stars The Immaculate Collection........2007-02-16

Sensational cd.
The only down side is that several of her hits are missing, including 2 of my favorites, True Blue and Who's that girl.
A great trip back in time, and really well done.
A fantastic buy for anyone.

Album Description

Founded in the late '60s in Surrey, England, Genesis rose out of the ashes of earlier bands formed by schoolmates Peter Gabriel, Tony Banks, Michael Rutherford, and Anthony Phillips (who departed after 1969's Trespass, the album providing the final track on this stellar retrospective). Guitarist Steve Hackett soon signed on, as did drummer/vocalist Phil Collins, who'd later emerge (as would Gabriel) as a solo superstar. Following Gabriel's 1975 departure, Genesis grew from a progressive art-rock outfit into one of the biggest arena rock acts ever, with a long string of platinum-sellers and chart smashes. On this, their most comprehensive career-spanning collection to date, Genesis' remarkable evolution is revealed.

4 out of 5 stars Great mix for the price!.......2007-06-17

A really good overview of their work.

4 out of 5 stars Good introduction ahead of Genesis' 2007 US tour.......2007-06-07

Economic value: 5 Stars; Compilation: 4 Stars; Packaging: 3 Stars

Now that Genesis has decided to do the (take your pick: dreaded/hoped for) reunion tour this year, starting in Europe shortly, coming to the US later this year, it's time to revisit the only compilation that spans the entire Genesis studio catalogue.

"Genesis Platinum Edition" (3 CDs; 40 tracks; 235 min.) tracks the band's history in reverse chronological order, with one exception: the title track of 1997's "Calling All Stations", which is stuck at the end of CD1 and sounds totally out of place--for many reasons. But for that song, this covers Genesis 1971-1991, and it's amazing what these guys put out in 20 years, and how the band evolved. This compilation is a decent attempt to cover it all. CD1 (16 tracks, 78 min.) covers the band's most successfull years, and many of these tracks are also found on the "Turn It On Again - The Hits" compilation. Am I the only one to think that the songs from 1986's "Invisible Touch" album have aged very poorly? It makes me cringe to listen to them. (Note: "Tonight Tonight Tonight" comes in an edited, short version here.) CD2 (15 tracks, 77 min.) tracks the intermediary years and I was surprised how good these songs resonate still. Check out for example "Abacab" (in the full album version, thankfully), and "In That Quiet Earth/Afterglow", but shamefully "One for the Vine" is missing, one of the band's best tracks ever (and perhaps the best song Tony Banks ever penned). CD3 (9 tracks, 80 min.) covers the Peter Gabriel years (1971-1975), and while I did not mind (and at times greatly enjoyed) Genesis' evolution to a mainstream successful band, this era is still the most compelling for me. Check out "The Cinema Show" and "Supper's Ready" (both here in full length) if you're not familiar with them, you'll be blown away, I promise you.

There is no arguing with the economic value of this compilation: 4 hours of music for $20, you can't beat that. The packaging is a different story: skimpy liner notes, and the booklet is misprinted with pages out of order... I have seen Genesis in concert only once, in Brussels on the 1977 tour for "Wind & Wuthering" and I remember it as if it was yesterday. Unforgettable. While I know that this year's reunion tour is probably a money-grabbing thing, I nevertheless do plan on seeing them when they come to Columbus in September, for nostalgic reasons if nothing else.

5 out of 5 stars What the Turn it On Again collection should`ve been.............2007-05-14

This is, without a shadow of a doubt THE best collection of my favorite band of all time. Disc 1 is what the TIOA CD shoulda been. Not just pure hit machine pop but some great prog like Home by Sea & Mama COMPLETLEY UNEDITED. Also has a hard to find piece called Paperlate remixed.-5 stars. Disc 2 has classics like ABACAB & Turn it on Again totally remixed. it ain`t Genesis at its best but its good.-4.5 stars. Disc 3 is a masterpiece, prog rock greatness with Suppers Ready! Nuff said.-6 stars. steller.

3 out of 5 stars Great musicianship, but can you - honestly - take Phil Collins seriously?.......2007-05-11

Yeah, yeah, yeah, Peter Gabrial, Steve Hackett (later of "GTR," a band Creem Magazine referred to as "SHT"), Tony Banks, Chester Thompson, Mike Rutherford (he of "The Living Years" fam ), and...and...and...Phil Collins. EXCELLENT drummer! But WHY "push the envelope," seeing how annoying he can be? Oh well, "buy the ticket, take the ride," I guess...

A poll-winning fiddler since her teens, Alison Krauss was an established bluegrass star when her label persuaded her to step out from her usual projects with Union Station, her crack band, and sanction this compilation of various band and solo guest performances. The ploy worked, yielding a wonderful, odds-beating crossover hit with Krauss's cover of "Baby, Now That I've Found You," a carousing late-'60s pop chant transformed into a delicate, vulnerable declaration of love. Focusing on Krauss's lovely, yearning soprano, the track elevated the musician above her resolutely democratic role in her quintet, catapulting Krauss to the biggest bluegrass success story in over 30 years. Krauss has stayed true to her bluegrass roots, as well as to Union Station, but this cross-section of contemporary bluegrass songs, joyous gospel, and canny rock covers testifies to the young artist's luminous appeal. --Sam Sutherland

In this album, it has my favoriate song: When You Say Nothing At All. Alison Krauss's voice is so sweet and natural. When you hear her songs, you can feel relaxing and fresh from her voice. Good choice.

This is a terrific album by Alison Krauss. A nice selection of songs that display her full range of vocal abilities and styles. If you are a new fan and wondering which album to buy, this is the one. If you are going on a trip and wondering which Alison Krauss album to take along, this is the one. This is the album that everyone loves, even those who don't love bluegrass or country. You won't be sorry you made this purchase.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome.......2007-01-09

If you are a Paul Simon fan this is the collection to have!! It has all of the great hits. I am very happy with this purchase. My husband & I trade it back & forth. Everytime I look for it it is in his car CD player. I highly recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars Worthy Purchase.......2006-11-25

I think Paul Simon is an underrated artist. This ensemble is reflective of his ability to create music of different flavors such as Reggae ("Mother and Child Reunion" that could easily be a Bob Marley song) and A capella ("Adios Hermanos").

I got this CD because of "You can call me Al", heard the other tracks and was blown away. Notable tracks include "Mother And Child Reunion", "Adios Hermanos" - (that is based on the true story of the Capeman Murders. For more on the Capeman Murders, google "Salvador Agron"), "Spirit Voices" and "Late in the Evening".

Worthy purchase

4 out of 5 stars Enjoyable.......2006-08-22

Paul Simon has a great range of styles. Sure he is labeled folk music but in his many travels he has picked up different styles of music and infused them with his own style and you get a taste of this in the CD "The Paul Simon Collection: On My Way, Don't Know Where I'm Goin.'"

5 out of 5 stars Excellent collection marred only by some missing tracks still a great single disc collection of Simon's best.......2006-08-15

There's no way a "Best of" can be perfect. Fans are always going to disagree about what's missing or what great song didn't make the album. Overall this collection gets it right more often than wrong unlike the two previous "Best of" collections that Simon has put together.

We get two of the strongest tracks from Simon's first album and they were singles as well. "Mother and Child Reunion" and "Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard" both demonstrate that Simon was making World Music long before the term was created. "Kodachrome" and "Loves Me Like a Rock" were strong singles from Simon's second album and they are aided by a wistful ballad "Something So Right" covered by Annie Lennox which is probably why it was included. "50 Ways To Leave Your Lover" and "Still Crazy After All These Years" were highlights from Simon's third solo album. Missing in action is "My Little Town" a Simon & Garfunkel "reunion" single that both men put on their respective albums. It still should be here as it's a great song.

Although "One Trick Pony" isn't Simon's best album is one or two omissions ("How the Heart Approaches What It Yearns", "Oh Marion") that should have been included from that album besides the brilliant "Late in the Evening". "Slip Slidin' Away" is from Simon's first collection "Greatest Hits, Etc". What's missing here is the brilliant "Stranded in a Limousine" (which incidently DOES show up as a bonus track on "One Trick Pony"). All definitely deserve to be here. Really this should have been a full two disc set with the live tracks thrown on to the second CD with these other tracks.

We get the powerful "Hearts and Bones" the title track from Simon's fourth solo album (fifth if you count the Paul Simon Songbook a collection of S&G songs he recorded before the duo broke through)but I miss "Allergies" which, from what I recall, was a single. The brilliant "Graceland" is well represented with "Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes", "The Boy in the Bubble", "Graceland" and "You Can Call Me Al" all strong songs that got considerable airplay. The selections from "Rhythm of the Saints" is perfect except for the single "The Obvious Child" which seemed like an obvious inclusion on this set.

We close out the album with "Adios Hermanos" from "Songs from the Caveman" and two tunes from Simon's "The One". Both are solid selections overall. Early editions of this terrific album come with a second disc with live tracks featuring "American Tune", "Duncan","The Coast", "Mrs. Robinson" and "Bridge Over Troubled Water" live.

"Shining Like a National Guitar" features "The Obvious Child" if you want that track as well as "Bernadette", "Take Me To the Madrdi Gras", "Trailways Bus", "Rene and Georgette Magritte with Their God After the War" all of which aren't collected here. That album is missing some great material that's included here so, again, between those tracks the ones I mentioned and the live tracks we could have had a perfect "Best of". There is also a two disc "Best of" available as an important which I'd recommend. It digs into the Simon & Garfunkel catalog as well making it, aside from the boxed set, the single set with the most depth (although it lacks anything from Simon's last two albums).

Despite these minor flaws this is probably the best single collection of Simon's best songs available and very generous at that. Definitely worth picking up particularly if you want an album that has the bulk of his best album tracks and single all together in one spot.

5 out of 5 stars Yet Another Paul Simon Anthology.......2006-07-15

Since I already own the (overpriced but good) Paul Simon CD box set--and most of his solo recordings prior to Graceland, in their recently reissued form--I'm not sure if there's any point in getting this.

I wonder, though, about that five-track bonus disc. Is the live version of "American Tune" the same one which appeared on a briefly-available "best of" collection from Simon called "Greatest Hits etc.", which was primarily noteworthy for its inclusion of the track (not available elsewhere, so far as I know) "Stranded In a Limousine"? I always liked that version of "American Tune" better than either the studio version, or the live version from "Live Rhymin'".

But the (even more briefly-available) CD of "Greatest Hits etc." sounds terrible--as do most CDs from the early digital era. (Nothing especially bad about this release in particular: producers, engineers and presssing plants just didn't know how to make good CDs yet.)

If it IS that version, in a better-mastered form: that alone would likely be reason enough for me to buy yet another Simon collection. In the meantime, I'm more likely to spend my money on something new like Surprise.

Five stars because any collection of Paul Simon songs is bound to be good, even though I personally might not need it.

Album Description

One of the most immediately recognizable voices in all of contemporary music, Michael McDonald's signature sound fuses rock, R&B, soul, and gospel. As he evolved onward from his formative days as a backup singer for Steely Dan, McDonald's artistry bridged the gap between jazzy blue-eyed soul and and chart-topping pop rock, earning him superstardom both as lead vocalist/keyboardist for the Doobie Brothers and as a solo artist. Spanning 1976 to the present, this hit-packed new compilation spotlights his inimitable baritone on 19 timeless songs that will have you believing from the very first minute.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars If you're a Michael McDonald fan............2007-06-26

There are a few "BEST OF MICHAEL MCDONALD" CDs out there, but if I were to choose just one of his "Greatest hits Albums", then this CD would be the one. This CD is recorded beautifully and Michael's voice comes through smoothly. The songs are his best known hits,--- all mixed wonderfully.

5 out of 5 stars a must-have collection.......2007-05-14

I've been a fan of Michael McDonald and the Doobie Brothers for years, but have resisted buying CDs because I really only *love* 2 or 3 songs off each album. I'd just about resigned myself to buying the MP3s and burning my own disk when I stumbled across this album. This collection is really the best of the best, including McDonald's earliest songs with the Doobies (all the ones you wanted!) all the way up to his latest solo releases. I even discovered a few new favorites from his solo years. Album notes are great, with stories from McDonald about how he came to write each song, and what collaborations with Patti LaBelle, James Ingram, and Carly Simon were like. If you're only going to own one album, this is the one.

5 out of 5 stars The Ultimate Collection.......2006-11-06

Michael McDonald is, and always has been great to listen to. Driving in your car, out for the evening, or with someone you love, he's my choice.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent sampler of both the Doobie Bros and Solo careers!.......2006-09-20

This 2005 "Ultimate Collection" is true to it's word in the fact that it compiles two worlds onto one great CD: One is Michael McDonald's solo material and other other his former band that he was lead singer of The Doobie brothers in the 1970s. This isn't a replacement of McDonald's solo 'best of' CD "The Very Best of" from a few years before. Many of the most well-known songs from McDonald and crew appear on here including a track from his most recent release "Motown Two" and a bizarre remix of "Open The Door" from his "Blue Obsession" CD. At 77 minutes, this is a very good investment in introducing someone to his music.

5 out of 5 stars Love It.......2006-09-01

I bought this because the everyone kept saying that Taylor Hicks was a new Michael McDonald and then they talk about his DVD on "40-year old virgin". It's funny how different forms of media link together. In this case, it was a good thing because I love this CD and the cover. Michael McDonald sure is a silver fox!

Amazon.com essential recording

As a superstar who's revered by both the young country audience and traditionalists, Alan Jackson is at his finest when he's steers clear of trifles like "Chattahoochie" and takes those younger fans to school. Here he does just that by paying respects to Hank ("Midnight in Montgomery"), swearing allegiance to George Jones ("Don't Rock the Jukebox"), and calling out all those newcomers who've decided it's time to get twangy now that country's hot ("Gone Country"). All of it pales next to "Here in the Real World," however, as perfect a honky-tonk weeper as mainstream Nashville has produced in 30 years. --David Cantwell

Alan Jackson is a true country singer who sticks to traditional country songs. This album features many of those songs such as "Midnight in Montgomery," "Chasin' That Neon Rainbow," "Don't Rock the Jukebox," and "Tall Tall Trees." It features a very impressive collection of songs that will go down as some of the greatest ever recorded. I rank this as one of my favorite albums, and I'm glad I got it. AJ is truly a great singer. If you can find this album, get it!

4 out of 5 stars Perfect for New Fans, but . . ........2007-04-12

This album is really perfect for people who are just being introduced to Sarah Brightman. However, it really isn't for fans who have been with Sarah since the 1990s. All of the pieces are on her previous CDs, and, if you're a loyal fan, you probably already have them. Also, some really good hits are left out. "Harem" should have been put in place, instead of "What You Never Know". It seems as though Ms. Brightman hasn't put her "best" on this album". There also isn't a lot of Sarah from her "early years", such as her albums DIVE and FLY. There's a little bit of Phantom of the Opera, and then there are a lot of pieces from the album Time to Say Goodbye and Eden. A few from La Luna and a few from Harem. I am a LOYAL Sarah Brightman fan, but Sarah didn't out-do herself on this album. It almost seemed as though she was trying to make this a very CLASSICAL collection. I mean, she had some great pop tunes earlier on in her career. It's still a great collection, but I just wish that there was a little bit more! It's perfect for any new fan just coming in to the world of Sarah Brightman!

The CD is simply sexy! I love to listen to it when I want to escape.

5 out of 5 stars FABULOUS!!!!!.......2006-09-16

From the first "Aaargh!" I became captivated with the soul singing of Joe Cocker. The two songs recorded live, "The Letter" and "Cry Me a River" is more than enough reason to purchase this CD. The constant beat in the background music is clear, sharp and a perfect match to Cocker's passion. A great buy.

2 out of 5 stars Missing one of his biggest hits..........2006-06-22

Joe Cocker has charted 9 top-40 singles in the US -
one of them, HIGH TIME WE WENT, was his biggest hit in the period from 1971-1974. It's not here !
Even the cheap 11-song Millenium Collection has it.
You'll have to go for that or the 2CD set GOLD to get all the hits and classics on a compilation.

5 out of 5 stars Joe Cocker Still Rocks.......2006-06-14

Many excellent songs with very much to say about everything.
Those with a new love should pay particular attention to several selections on this disc.

5 out of 5 stars Joe Cocker Ultimate Collection.......2006-01-26

I used to hate Joe Cocker, because I thought to myself, Who is this clown who thinks he can cash in on Beatles songs? But over time I came to see it as, Wow--this guy has the balls to try covering Beatles songs!

Joe has seriously got to be the most soulful white guy in history. Listen to "Feelin Alright" and "The Letter" back-to-back, you'll know what I mean. He is like a white, male Aretha Franklin. He is an amazing vocal talent, and I only wish I'd given him a chance sooner so I could have enjoyed him for that much longer. "Feelin Alright" is such a great song, musically and lyrically, that nothing could ever happen to me so bad that this song wouldn't make me feel better. The chorus goes, "You're feeling alright/I'm not feeling too good myself/You're feeling alright/I'm not feelin alright myself." But the music is so good that, ironically, while the lyrics commiserate with you, the music makes you better--so that by the the 2-minute mark you can no longer relate to the words. I'm serious, my grandma could die and my dog get hit by a car and I think Feelin Alright would still have me singing along by the second chorus. This song alone is worth the price of the CD.

The other songs are great, too. He really, really knew how to choose cover songs that fit his style. "She Came In Through The Bathroom Window" is on the short list for my favorite Beatles song, but I actually like Joe's version a little better than the original.

I must admit--the songs start getting pretty unbearably sappy and/or cheesy after song ten or so. But you NEED to have the first 5 songs on this album, so if not by getting this, then by getting the early original albums they are from.
