Editorial Reviews
Album Description
Born in 1912 in Vienna, Erich Leinsdorf boasted an enviable pedigree, having studied with both Bruno Walter and Arturo Toscanini. Following Toscaninis recommendation to the Metropolitan Opera, Leinsdorf began his American odyssey: an odyssey that would lead him to Cleveland, Rochester, New York and eventually, Boston, where he served as Music Director for the BSO. The program presented on the present collection includes Leinsdorfs own symphonic arrangements of music from Wagners operas, and ends with a bold reading of Schoenbergs seminal Chamber Symphony No. 1, op. 9. These are essential recordings, vividly capturing the essence of Leinsdorfs mastery!
