Boris Ord's real first name was Bernhard; his friends called him Boris because he loved the Mussorgsky opera Boris Godunov so much. From 1929 to 1958, he was organist and choir director at Cambridge University's famed King's College. Not only was Ord unusual for his pioneering efforts in the early music movement, but he was also one of the first "cathedral" musicians to emphasize choral singing over organ playing. Under his leadership, the choir at King's became known far beyond the shores of England, and many recordings were made, beginning in the late 1940s. This disc features Christmas music, works by English Renaissance composers, S.S. Wesley's "Cast me not away," and Howells's "Collegium Regale Magnificat." Naturally, the sound, transferred from 78s and tape originals, is more than a bit rough in places, but the essence of these classic Ord performances is intact. --David Vernier

Anything by the brothers Gibb, Barry, Mo, Robin & Andy are my all time favorites, I have all of them. Can't wait till Robin's single 'Mother of Love' comes out, which I've listened to on his future site.

Good stuff, but only if you buy the Euro or Asian versions with Mother of Love. Sounds like vintage Bee Gees and with Mother of Love vintage Robin composition and anthem vocals. Good enough for me to buy on one song alone.
Contemporary background but Robin vocals doing the magic up front.

No doubt the material on this Christmas CD is better suited for Robin's gifted voice than his previous venture with the horrendous "Magnet" CD. The only thing that stuck to that Magnet was a bunch of bad reviews :-) But the record label chose to release the German version of "Favorite Carols" with 4 or 5 additional tracks including his new single "Mother of Love" that are not in the US version. Of course you can only order that overseas from sites like the German Amazon website. As a US resident, I'm not feeling the love here. All I can say is, I will have to shell out the additional bucks to get the German release and pass on the US, UK, Asian, and Canadian releases since none of these appear to have the extra songs. And that kinda ticks me off.

Perfectly wonderfully Robin. You will certainly enjoy Robin's vocal presentation and arrangement of these traditional Christmas songs. The fans have been asking for this for a long time - and he gave so respectfully well.

My brother gave this album (yes, ALBUM( to my parents one year, and I fell in love with her music. I bought the CD, and it kept me company on an 11 hour drive from Manhattamn to Erie, but I left it in the rental car and had no luck finding it anywhere until someone reco'd Amazon.
This is a great gift idea for people you haven't a clue what to buy for XMAS. It truly is a guft that keeps on giving

5 out of 5 stars My No. 1 Christmas Album.......2002-11-24

Guitar for Christmas is a wonderful and charming piece of work. It's my all-time favourite Christmas album. I own a lot of Guitar Christmas music and a lot of instrumental ones and this one is by miles the best one i've got. The arrangements are fantastic. Highlights include: What Child Is This? Blessed Jesus, Christmas Overture (O Come All Ye Faithful Medley) and it contains the best version of The Little Drummer Boy I have ever heard. Away in a Manger and Silent Night are also very interesting, and very well played.
The Album has other instruments too. There are strings, flutes, oboes, a Trumpet and some minor percussions. Most of the songs are calm and relaxing, other songs are faster and almost dancable, like the fantastic Yuletide Garland (Holly and the Ivy Fantasy) and Parade of Toy Soldiers, both arraned by Eric Robertson. I recommend this Album to every one looking for good Christmas music. I give it five stars.

An enchanting, gentle, charming collection of popular and classical holiday tunes. NOT to be confused with those bland, boring new-age guitarists. Ms. Boyd is an accomplished artist, joined here and there by a variety of other sympathetic instrumentalists. One of the very best holiday instrumental CDs.

      The performances contained herein are very good. I only wish there were more Sousa marches in the collection. However, those that are there are well-performed and the recording is very good.

        This is not what I expected; I had seen the television show Tool Time with Tim Allen and on one of the shows, actor's portrayed men from a construction site using their tools to create music. While it may seem strange that I would want to hear Christmas music played by power tools; I just didn't want to hear another round of the barking dogs barking out Jingle Bells played over and over and - again on my neighbors music system which he so kindly installs out side in the yard during the holiday season, so that we can all share some Christmas Cheer (God Bless him he really does try). I just thought to give him some competition on the share the Christmas Cheer thing, well maybe next year somebody will record some Christmas music using chain saws and I can get in line to purchase them.

        This album was givien to us as a gag gift, because my husband is in construction, but I knew how talented Gourd musicians were! We are continually AMAZED at the wonderful quality and sheer talent of your musicians to produce such a terrific album using only tools BRAVO!

        All of your favorite Holiday songs created in the shop with an orchestra of pneumatic nailers, circular saws, spray paint cans, jointers, jig saw blades and the everpresent shop vac. This is a very musical and entertaining collection of songs. The only thing missing is the smell of fresh sawdust!
