Album Description
Gibbs' music can hardly ever be called dissonant. He absorbed more from the lighter forms of entertainment, popular song, and the treasury of British folk-song than he ever did from the avant-garde. Overall, this is pleasant, summery, occasionally bittersweet music. Not light music, but not terribly serious either. Perhaps, after all, it does have a somewhat "provincial" sound to it, but it is also harmonically sophisticated in the way. Here is someone with a serious and mature mind that sees the fullness of life along with life's compromises.

Great Writting, Playing, and Production........2000-11-29
Jeff Beal has written some great tunes here. In order to bring them to life, he has picked some stellar musicians.
Steve Tavalognie is one LA's top sax players who complements the melodies while telling some nice stories solo-wise.
John Patitucci is arguably the best bass player alive in the context of versatility and technique. He has a wide catalog himself, all worth checking out.
Steve Cardeneas plays guitar on this CD. This CD was one of his first "big" sessions and he fits right in with these heavy hitters. Steve lives in NY currently playing with Bob Moses.
In the drum chair we have two drummers both regarded as the TOP guys in the jazz/fusion genre currently. Dave Weckl played with Chick Corea for may years, along with Mike Stern and Lee Ritenour. This CD in particualr brings out a side of Dave's playing not heard anywhere else. The second drummer is none other than Vinnie Colaiuta. Vinnie manages to once again find the delictae balance between finesse and aggresion. He plays for the music and still his identity shines through, particularly on a tune in 5. Having played with Frank Zappa odd meter is one of Vinnie's forte's. John Beasly plays piano on this disc and does a fantastic job of finding the right plays to play, and (even hearder) when NOT to play. Filling in the holes where needed and complementing the melody is a task not many can do the way John Does.

If your'e still affraid of classical music experience, buy this CD and enjoy it.
The Three Graces.......2002-05-13
This CD is a marvelous work. The music is beautiful, but not so serious that you lose interest. Overall this is a pleasent and summery, and sometimes bittersweet music. It's not to light and happy but not heavy and dark. It's the perfect cd!. Kraevsky and Istomin and Reibaud are excelent. It's great music to play when you're entertaining, sleeping, reading, at work, doing anything. You'll love to listen to this. I highly recomend this CD and suggest Watercolors as well (Kraevsky is also featured in it).
Beautiful music, beautifully played.......2002-05-05
"The Three Graces" proves that lyrical music does not mean brainless music and not all music written after 1910 sounds like someone throwing pots and pans down the cellar steps while the cat screams in terror. The Gibbs pieces on this CD are lyrical in the best sense - they sing. Gibbs mines a seemingly endless lode of singing melodies, performed here with just the right combination of virtuosity and lyricism. This is not bloodless "British light music" in the "Hey, nonny, nonny!" mode. The melodies are rich, full-bodied and memorable. The harmonies are sometimes unexpected but always pleasing. All three of the "Graces" are enchanting; the last, "Jennifer", is an irresistible waltz. The cello and violin sonatas are serious stuff and reward repeated hearings, and the tunes are ravishing. This is a CD to keep in the car, to lift your spirits on long drives and lower your blood pressure in traffic jams.
