Have some friends who still haven't discovered what the Sarah Brightman fuss is all about? You'll find the perfect introduction to make converts of them all in Classics, so they'll have no more excuses to remain clueless. Sporting a Botticelli-inspired image of the platinum-selling soprano on the cover, Classics is a classy anthology including highlights from three of Brightman's chart-topping releases along with seven new tracks. Songs personally selected by the diva as her favorite classical interpretations are culled from her previous blockbusters: Time To Say Goodbye, Eden, and La Luna. And whether you're a fan already in the fold or one in the making, the new material here shows the diva at the top of her form, in new renderings of "O Mio Babbino Caro" and "Nessun Dorma" (accompanied by the Royal Philharmonic)--fascinating displays of the operatic confidence she's developed over her career. Other new offerings include a touching version of Schubert's "Ave Maria,' "Winter Light," a fresh take on her signature song "Pie Jesu" (from Andrew Lloyd Webber's Requiem). "Alhambra" and "Dans La Nuit"--a real treat, bathing the listener in Brightman's silky, sensuous vocalism--add two original titles to her famous adaptations of classical melodies to new lyrics (using Chopin's haunting E major Etude in the latter case). All told, a lovely affirmation of the directions Brightman has boldly taken in her career to date. -Sarah Chin

Sarah's Best Easy Listening CD.......2007-03-15
Sarah Brightman's talent is limitless. Her soprano and/or alto voice is among the best and she lets it show in 'CLASSICS'. CLASSICS is a beautiful, easy listening, and peaceful CD. CLASSICS is one to listen to in tranquil or relaxing moments. "CLASICS" is a collection of great pieces of music written by great composers (Shuburt, Handel, Chopin, Puccini, and the like). I have listened to CLASSICS about 15 times now and it always puts me in a quiet and peaceful mood (I am ~50 years old).
Best Brightman CD.......2007-02-07
A classical composition which showcases the beautiful voice of Sarah Brightman. A timeless CD which will continue to be a favourite over the years.
Sarah Brightman is a Classic.......2007-01-02
Sarah Brightman is at her best in "Classics." From Dvorak's "Rusalka" (Opera B.203) to Beethoven's haunting Op 52, slow movement (Symphony #7), Brightman's voice and lyrical style are a joy. I particularly enjoy her performances of Schubert's Ave Maria and Andrew Lloyd Weber's Pie Jesu. This is a great add to my collection of serious music.
Not The Best - Not the Worst - From Sarah Brightman.......2006-12-30
After purchasing this CD for my iPod for iTunes, I must say that I'm a little bit dissapointed. 7 new recordings and 8 old ones, ones that I already happen to have. I do like the fact that they're all on one CD! Some of her new recordings, including, "Ave Maria", "Winter Light", "Alhambra", "Dans La Nuit", and the new recording of "Pie Jesu" are just too breathy for my taste. It seems as with every changing CD, Sarah's voice changes. I'm not saying that the result is bad; it actually gives the songs more of a dream like quality, but I'm used to the younger, more Andrew Lloyd-Webber integrated Sarah. Scooping continually occurs in new recordings of "O Mio Babbino Caro", and "Nessun Dorma". In some tracks from La Luna, like "Figlio Perduto", Sarah's voice is TOTALLY dominated by harmonizing recordings that sound almost mechanical.
OVERALLY - The new songs sound O.K. and the old recordings are just as good as they were back then. This album is still a great buy!
Nice Cover.......2006-12-27
I'm a heterosexual guy who's not an opera aficionado - I only mention these facts because I seem to be right in the bull's-eye of the target market for this product. Sarah B. has a nice voice and she's pretty. Both of these are featured prominently on this CD. The cover and several pages in the insert are devoted to what must have been a very long and expensive photo shoot (and Photoshop) of a semi-clad Sarah looking marvelous. (The CD also comes with a flyer so you can buy various Brightman "Classics" apparel - perhaps not for the heterosexual male).
As far as the music goes: not bad, not great. I don't claim to have the most discerning ears for this sort of music, but everything was OK by me. However, the pieces on the CD with which I'm somewhat familiar, such as "O Mio Babbino Caro," didn't sound quite as good as other versions I've heard (and that includes by Charlotte Church, not just opera stars). Also, the solo version of "Time to Say Goodbye" didn't sound nearly as good to me as the duet with Bocelli.
In sum, there were 3-4 songs I liked enough to rip to MP3s - which is enough so that I didn't feel ripped myself...

If Josh Groban's unabashedly melodramatic musical fusion inspires grousing on both sides of the classical/pop pundit divide, the screams of the (mostly) young female fans that punctuate these 2004 performances at L.A.'s historic Greek theater better underscore the real point. This set's CD and more expansive DVD complement each other well; if anything, supplemented by a live string ensemble and crack backing band, they're a warmer, more focused showcase for the singer's talents than the studio albums that made his meteoric fame. In peak form, Groban variously delivers forceful renditions of his pop-operatic powerhouses "Canto Alla Vita" and "Anna Luce Del Sole" (the former featuring a drum solo [!] from Groban, the latter a fine guest turn by Bela Fleck on banjo), takes a surprising solo piano break on Paul Simon's "America," waxes Central Asian on Troy's "Remember" and brings the crowd to its feet with the heart-on-his-sleeve dramatics of Closer's "Never Let Go." They're all informed by the singer's insouciant, youthful enthusiasm, arguing that Groban is gifted with more than just a magnificent voice; he's a complete natural as a performer as well. The DVD also includes a tour diary narrated with typical charm by the singer, as well as bonus live performance of "Believe" from the Polar Express soundtrack. --Jerry McCulley
Album Description
Josh Groban's 2002 PBS "Great Performances" special was a #1 selling DVD and the best-selling long-form music video of 2003. His second "Great Performances" special was taped at L.A.'s Greek Theater in the summer of 2004. For fans of the young sophisticated pop phenomenon who has sold more than 8 million albums, this CD+DVD package is just the latest great performance in the career of Josh Groban. DVD Extras: On the road with Josh for Summer 2004 Tour and a special performance of "Believe" from The Polar Express (it's PBS footage mixed w/ film footage).
Customer Reviews:
Josh is even better in live!.......2007-04-14
I recently saw Josh on his new tour with Awake, and it was so awesome that inspired me to buy this DVD to replicate the experience a little bit. I loved it! Especially loved the few extra songs I've never heard before (Mi Morena, America). Some people were complaining about the nasal sound and quality, but this is a live show so of course it sounds a little different. Bottom line is I think Josh is a great preformer and his very funny also :)
Very Good!.......2007-02-09
This CD/DVD was very good. I watched the DVD and was impresed with the way He handles the "spot light." He seems to be a very humble person and I think that is what makes his music so enjoyable to listen to. Not forgetting his awesome voice!
Let me explain..........2007-01-14
There are several reviews that talk about how annoying it is for the fans to wave light sticks and/or American flags in this DVD. Perhaps if I explain why, it will seem less annoying.
The waving of the light sticks was started at the very beginning of his first tour, mainly to show him how much the fans appreciated the concerts. The first idea was to wave them during the last verse of "You Raise Me Up," when the choir came out. Later, fans added another show of support by waving blue light sticks during "Vincent (Starry Starry Night."
OK, if you still find that annoying, that's your right. However, the flag waving at the end of "To Where You Are" was special. This concert was filmed on September 11, and the flags were waved at the end of "To Where You Are" for those who were lost, and the families of those who were lost, on 9/11/2001.
It's your right if you still find these things annoying. I just thought I'd try to help you to understand.
Since this is a forum for giving our opinions of the DVD, I have to say that I love it. He has a beautiful voice and I love listening to him under any circumstance. The DVD is wonderful, IMHO.
Re-Live the Concert Experience!.......2007-01-09
Was fortunate enough to attend Josh's "Closer" concert tour date at Jones Beach--amazing voice. Getting this album brought back all of the memories of that amazing evening outdoors under a "Starry, Starry Night." I used to not bother purchasing live albums because they had poor audio quality, but not anymore. Love this album! (Actually, I love all of his stuff.)
DVD is so worth the price.......2007-01-08
I disagree with some of the reviewers complaining about a nasal sounding CD. Yes, there are few parts where it may sound a little nasal but people have to remember that this a LIVE concert and if they wanted perfect sound they should buy the studio album instead. He still sounded brilliant and great. The DVD is fantastic for all those who don't have the luck or means to attend a Groban concert. It captures the energy and pure joy of a concert. Sometimes its even better than being at the concert because you can see Groban close up. I hope that there will be a concert DVD released for the AWAKE concerts.

The likes of Yo-Yo Ma, Sam Bush, Edgar Meyer, Joshua Bell, and Mark O'Connor can be heard on Heartland, a compilation featuring the best tracks from Sony's ongoing Appalachian-themed series of CDs. Individually, these folk and classical stars have little in common, but when they meet to play these new bluegrass-meets-chamber-music arrangements, the results are pure magic. It's hard to pinpoint these Americana-tinged tunes--they could fit in either Carnegie Hall or a grange hall--but they're all great; this is as much Aaron Copland's version of roots music as it is Bill Monroe's. Whether on fast-and-furious breakdowns such as "Death by Triple Fiddle" or on mellow, almost New Agey instrumentals such as "Sliding Down" (featuring Bela Fleck on the banjo), these musicians excel. Guest vocals by James Taylor and Alison Krauss break up the instrumentals, though instrumental virtuosity is the real highlight of this disc. If you like what you hear on this sampler, check out the Grammy Award-winning Appalachian Journey next. --Jason Verlinde
Customer Reviews:
A piece of heaven.......2006-02-01
Heartland is a haven and a piece of heaven. I was transported.
Great CD.......2004-03-16
Great violin, appalachian music, brings out your country roots, beautiful song by Allison Krauss, good mix of slow and up beat songs, excellent cd!
A bit of a yawn-er.......2003-04-22
If you are planning to open up a high-end gift shop specializing in handcrafted wind chimes and micro-bakery scone mixes and the like, then you must have this CD playing for your customers. It might have a certain appeal there that it did not find in my living room. Not to say that the musicianship is not utterly outstanding, which it is most certainly. Aside from Short Trip Home, which is why I purchased this CD in the first place, I found the rest of the pieces somewhat vapid considering the caliber of the artists. Again, it has its appeal in an easy listening realm, but this was not what I was looking for.
Exquisitely good music!.......2002-05-04
Didn't expect an outstanding cd, don't know exactly why i got it,maybe because of yo yo and bela, but every piece is played
beautifully, even the vocal piece by James Taylor. The album is almost too good to be called Heartland, every piece is a class act. Bravo!
Great Music!.......2001-11-09
I drive alot commuting to and from my job. This music has served as the perfect backdrop to an lovely Indiana fall! I'm sure I'll recall those colorful images as I continue to listen to this CD through the colorless days of winter!

Guitarist Will Ackerman has often re-recorded his own songs, coming back years later with new interpretations and perhaps more refined techniques. Returning, however, consists entirely of new recordings of songs from the Ackerman archives. The founder of Windham Hill records, this is his first recording off the label since founding the company in 1976. He sold it in 1992, but has continued on it as an artist until now. Cynics might view this as a ploy to retain control of his catalogue, a common practice for artists who jump labels.
Returning is thus a greatest hits CD, albeit of all new performances. The playing and recording are sharper here than on those old Windham Hill favorites and Ackerman's compositions have rarely sounded more poignant. "Unconditional" appears even more classical and ruminative than it's original, while the new version of "The Bricklayer's Beautiful Daughter" makes the 1977 version sound antique, like a dusty slack-stringed balalaika from the attic. Drawing from his more plaintive repertoire, Ackerman leaves songs like the bluegrass-tinged "The Pink Chiffon Tricycle Queen" and collaborations with Buckethead behind. What remains are songs that have become old-friends to Will Ackerman fans, newly polished and slightly refurbished. --John Diliberto
Customer Reviews:
Awesome.......2007-03-09
If you like accustic guitar, this is one of the best releases out there, but then again Will Ackerman has been a pilar in New Age music for a long, long time. You won't be disappointed with this release.
Returning: Pieces for Guitar 1970-2004.......2007-02-22
This is the highest quality recording of acoustic guitar that I have ever heard. Will Ackerman's guitar playing is very pretty and is a nice change from Leo Kottke and John Fahey.
what else can be said.......2006-11-20
the music speaks from his heart, it has a manner of calming us before it opens our own hearts... it breaks barriers of wonder, fear and confusion so that we can just enjoy it... immeasurably.. it's only got one place to be--> in our collection of top cd's of all time.
very nice.......2005-12-19
Will Ackerman may not be the fastest gun in the West. He may not paint with the greatest variety of colors. And he may not be the most imaginitive guitar player in the world. But Will doesn't need to be any of these things.
Will Ackerman writes acoustic guitar songs that are lyrical, songs that fully take advantage of the instrument's resonant qualities, songs that embrace not only the notes themselves, but the silence into which those notes disappear. In these crazy, tense times, Will Ackerman plays music that is relaxed, calm, and unhurried.
These songs are old favorites for Will's fans, re-recorded, re-interpreted, and delivered with perspective that only decades of performance can bring. This CD would serve as a very nice starting point for anyone unfamilar with Will.
A worthy effort!
Returning to the Past.......2005-11-12
I was prompted to buy Will Ackerman's "Returning" CD after hearing it featured on NPR. I already was a casual fan, enjoying his gorgeous touch on the acoustic.
The interview they featured as well touched on Ackerman's coming to terms with sexual abuse he suffered as a kid, and how the guitar was a sort of therapy for him. If you can transfer that kind of pain to guitar and make something good out of it, that's amazing to me.
Ackerman's classical touch, along with the other influences he's picked up in life make for a great style amongst the "new age" musical crowd, and his is pretty easy to pick out. Hearing "The Bricklayer's Beautiful Daughter" and "Visiting" under the new conditions doesn't diminish the compositions at all--either the old or the new, they're still remarkable works.
Several other tracks from Ackerman's past get a fine updating. "Hawk Circle" and "The Impending Death of the Virgin Spirit" aren't that much different, but still very good to hear again.
Few artists take the time to re-record and update their best, such as Gordon Lightfoot. Perhaps most are satisfied with what they've done, or the record company just won't go for it. But Ackerman took a step, I think important for him, and not just as a performer. To go back over these pieces and to hear them again, sometimes more than 30 years after they were first recorded is an introspective exercise, but also perhaps a needed one.

Adagio follows in the rosin-dusted footsteps of The Impressionists, A Different Mozart, and A Different Prelude. As with those releases, it was produced by Dawn Atkinson and features many of the same artists. The results are as varied as the musicians. Violinist Tracy Silverman cuts one of his patented echo-delayed pizzicato violin arrangements of a Bach arioso, while Patrick O'Hearn drapes a somber keyboard shroud around the Adagio from Rodrigo's Fantasy for a Gentleman. Jeff Johnson and Brian Dunning find the Celtic air in the Adagio from Handel's Sonata in G, while Philip Aaberg discovers infinity between the notes of Barber's ubiquitous Adagio for Strings. He stretches the melody across his piano in finely drawn lines, subtlety filled out with synthesizer undertones. Subtlety is a casualty on Philipe Saisse's bongos, bells, and synth arrangement of Bach's Air on a G String. It's also sacrificed in a corny confection of Handel's Sarabande by Paul Schwartz. His ham-fisted electronic keyboards would've sounded dated even before Switched-On Bach. But Adagio features plenty of musicians who are willing to surrender themselves to their elegiac themes, including guitarist Steve Erquiaga, Mike Marshall, and Edgar Meyers. --John Diliberto
Customer Reviews:
Simply Gorgeous !.......2003-10-05
This is the first Windham Hill compilation I've purchased in a long, long time, and I am thrilled with the music.
The artistry is stunning, the artists bring themselves to the music while at the same time maintaining the integrity of the original piece.
My favorite is Grieg's Nocturne, arranged and performed by Steve Erquiaga. I have been in love with his music from the moment
I heard his CD "Cafe Paradiso" (Imaginary road Records). It is absolutely stunning!
When I saw that he was on "Adagio" I went for it. I'm so happy that I did ...
Other hightlights for me are Philip Aaberg's "Adagio for Strings", Tracy Silverman's "Arioso" ..... they're all beautiful.
Thank You for this wonderful music.

The search for solace involves a difficult reconciliation of conflicting emotions, pitting one's need to grieve at odds with a heavy-hearted realization that life, however diminished, must go on. Using an audio palette of grays and dark blues, Michael Hoppe offers Solace as a balm for the soul during such times, "where the dark clouds in life give way to the glow of eternal hope and peace." The clouds never fully lift during the 12 tracks of Solace, which appear to progress in a stages-of-mourning manner. The effect can be moving, even lovely (particularly the grand orchestral opener, "The Majestic Land," one of four splendid selections involving the Prague Symphony -- recorded remotely via an Internet link, of all things). The prevailing mood is melancholy but not quite maudlin; two angelic arias ("Pie Jesu," which Hoppe had written for the memorial service of his wife's mother, and "Lachrymosa") are tearless, reverent expressions that aspire to the divine. The closing moment of "The Parting," a retooled but otherwise ordinary composition from 1986 that involves Vangelis, finally yields a sense of closure. For those in a state of bereavement, Hoppe's Solace may offer you comfort. --Terry Wood
Customer Reviews:
Inspirational.......2007-01-16
First track could be a county's anthem, very nicely performed. The remainder of album is inspiring, and much like Hoppe's other works.
Gorgeous Music to Work and Meditate to.......2006-10-19
I am seldom so overwhelmed with the beauty of a piece of music that I'm moved to tears. This does just that to me. Each track is as meaningful and beautiful wrought. Powerful stuff.
Heartbreakingly Beautiful.......2006-09-16
Michael Hoppe is a treasure. From his earliest recordings until his latest, Requiem, I have never been disappointed. Solace does not have one track that you will skip over. The soloists, where there are vocals, are superb and speak straight to the heart. Occasionally we are given a musical gift that lasts us a lifetime. This is one of those gifts.

A New Age Gem.......2005-09-05
This is a beautiful collection of New Age music that should please fans of the genre. Perfect for listening alone or with others. The music is soothing at times, but at others, is fervent and burning.
The first piece of this recording ("The Majestic Land") is like a throwback to "The Big Country." This being my first impression, I thought every other piece was going to sound like movie soundtracks. But no, the second piece proved me wrong. "So You" was like an unworded song of love, eternity, and promise. By the time of the third piece, you'll be burning with the passion and desire of the strings in "Romance for Violin and Orchestra." The pieces afterwards more or less delve into that rich and sometimes otherworldly territory that is New Age, reaching again into a certain height with "Jude's Theme" and "Nimbus," then coming into a prayerful respite in "Pie Jesu." These pieces are what really make up the theme of "Solace."
The last piece called "The Parting," is a very good piece for dispersing all that left-over burden we accumulated in a day's time. The first time I heard it, and afterwards, I felt like I was in the calm, sunny waters of the Greek sea, and swimming among majestic whales!
There is something for everyone in this recording. Solace does not necessarily mean to be alone, and the music here proves that it can be listened to in the solace of lovers, or a dear friend.
Fly.......2004-03-06
Fly away through the sky and let your imagination get a way from materialistic life. This CD is very Relaxing and Soothing especially when you listen to it outside maybe in the park. Have a nice time.

Product Description
"Many guitarists dabble in slide guitar, but the number of modern masters can probably be counted on one hand- Roy Rogers is surely one of them..."- Guitar Player Magazine. This Roy Rogers' first ever live CD. Drawing on inspiration and material from a career that spans decades of performing, Roy Rogers is considered one of the world1s leading parishioners of modern slide guitar. This is a Bandlink Enhanced CD which enables you to access new and exclusive Roy Rogers content- instant tour dates, news alerts, bonus music tracks, live video footage and direct chats with the Roy. Nominated for 8 Grammy1s for his production and performing work in the recording industry, Rogers1 has been immersed in the blues and roots scene and performing professionally since the ripe age of 13. This longtime Northern California resident picked up a nomination for the prestigious W.C. Handy Award in the Best Instrumentalist Guitar category last year for his release "Slideways" which hit #3 on the Blues Billboard chart. In addition, Rogers' recently co-wrote the song 3G1Nawin on It1 (on 'Silver Lining') with Bonnie Raitt which was nominated for a Grammy in the Best Female Rock Vocal Performance category. Rogers is currently being featured on OSierra Center Stage1, the Sierra Nevada Brewing Company-sponsored television series which seeks to bring exposure to underexposed American Roots and World musicians. The CD includes special guest performances by pianist Phil Aaberg, harmonica wizard Norton Buffalo, vocalist Shana Morrison and fiddler Tom Rigney. "I am first and foremost a performer and I have been playing with these players for a long time. It's great to lay it down and not have to bother with the added textures of studio polish- but keep it as gritty and fresh as possible. I also wanted to capture the band at this moment in time and I think we did that," adds Rogers.
Customer Reviews:
Ripping Slide Guitar Blues.......2006-02-14
I've always been an admirer of Roy Rogers - and I love slide guitar blues - a few of the current best purveyors being Johnny Winter, Sonny Landreth, Rory Block, John Mooney, Dave Hole, and Robert Randolph (pedal steel). Previously, some of Rogers' studio work has been a bit sterile, and sometimes his vocals can be wearing. However, in this case, Roy Rogers has set the standard in the warm, live setting of the Sierra Nevada Brewery "Big Room". All of the interaction with his longtime partner, Norton Buffalo, and the Delta Rhythm Kings, and the audience getting into it, make for an exciting listen. His slide guitar really shimmers and shakes, and all of the cuts (except for one), which were previously recorded on his other albums, really benefit from this live presentation. The recording quality itself is excellent. If you see this album - Get It!

Customer Reviews:
Great CD.......2004-11-20
The previous review goes into great detail about the CD, so there is no need to duplicate that here. I do want to add that this CD like all of Al and Amy's CDs provides an enormous amount of pleasure. It is not a greatest hits CD, although it has some of their best songs. It is, instead, a compilation of new, old and remixed songs, all of which sound great. I have listened to this CD over and over again. I highly recommend it.
a trip one loves to take.......2004-08-19
This album is billed as a collection/collaboration...for a much weaker album one might be tempted to say 'greatest hits'. This set of tunes may indeed have appeared in previous work by Amy and Al, but what they have done here is make them new and exciting. If the songs were people one would say they are not 'good looking', they are 'beautiful'. To be sure the original soul and heart of these songs still beats. In this CD they have taken on a complexity or maturity that is uncommon in all but the greatest musical works. One can listen to this CD many times under many different circumstances and still have it work. It is one to treasure.
Desert Dance begins the journey of this album with a great fusion of Celtic, Central American, and Mediterranean (in an earlier time I might have called it Galician or North African). It still retains that 'silk roads' lure that would make Yo Yo Ma jealous.
Caledon Wood has been one of my favourites for many years. The version here adds levels of breadth and depth I'd not imagined. In six listenings it still comes up with new themes. The drum and percussion for example could be very early Celtic of the type around the mythic fire...it could also be East Indian or a variety of other places in the world. Makes it a whole new song.
Sundog creates the meeting of faery time and human time when the sea, the sun, the winds, and our friends gather at a miraculous moment. Red-Haired Boy is another of the tunes that has matured wonderfully and taken on a complexity that is delightful. Listening to it I'm more reminded of the line by the poet: "My Love is Wood Fire Burning". I think of friends of all types with this one. Perhaps the most surprising tune on the CD is Baker's Dozen. On the one hand very much a folk tune. On the other it is a VERY progressive up-town jazz piece that may well be a sleeper. I first heard this shortly after they wrote it. It is as exciting now as the first time with lots of new stuff in it.
Amy and Al are great musicians. They have produced excellent work on their own. Together they produce music that transcends the individual efforts. It is worth listening to anything and everything they have done. That being said, this is their best work yet.
Like those we love, each time we see them we experience both the familiar and a magic something that is new. The same can be said for this album.
For passing time, time passing, and times to remember, this is an album you should run not walk to buy. Like great art, you'll wonder how you lived without it.
Enjoy!

Relaxing CD.......2000-06-12
If you enjoy James Galway, you should get this CD. It is wonderful easy listening music for when you are doing something else like reading. It is not as exciting as some of his other CDs but just as good. All the songs are beautiful and will be greatly appreciated.
