Album Description

Featuring original music composed by Alberto Iglesias. Adapted from the best-seller John le Carre's romantic thriller, two-time Academy Award nominee Ralph Fiennes and Rachel Weisz head the cast of "The Constant Gardener." In a remote area of northern Kenya, the dedicated activist Tessa Quayle (Weisz) is found brutally murdered. Her travelling companion, a local doctor, appears to have fled the scene and the evidence points to a crime of passion. Sandy Woodrow (Danny Huston), Sir Bernard Pellegrin (Bill Nighy), and other member of the British High Commission assume that Tessa's widower, their mild-mannered colleague Justin Quayle (Fiennes) will leave the matter to their discretion. They could not be more wrong... Featuring music performed by acclaimed Kenyan percussionist and Real World recording artist Ayub Ogada, Alberto Iglesias' ("La Mala Educacion," "The Dancer Upstairs," "Todo Sobre Mi Madre") lush score evokes the film's compelling African and European landscapes.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Beautiful Score.......2007-04-24

For someone like me who purchases soundtracks for the score to use for dance & skating programs, this soundtrack definitely made it into my collection. My only minus to the soundtrack is that there isn't much variety among the many tracks. But I am still able to work around it.

3 out of 5 stars Only track 13.......2007-03-31

In my opinion, only track 13 is worthy of buy this CD. Track 13 is beautiful, other than that extremely depressing music...... Once again track 13 is the most beautiful adn touching music that I have ever heard!

5 out of 5 stars Great Service.......2007-02-12

My CD was delivered in a very timely manner and the product was in great shape upon arrival.

4 out of 5 stars A nice reminder of a very moving movie.......2007-01-12

Favorite songs are the ones by Ayub Ogada. I think it's wonderful that we found his music through this film.

3 out of 5 stars it captures the spirit of the movie.......2006-11-10

I like this soundtrack because it reminds me of the movie, which I loved. I am not sure I would appreciate it much if I hadn't seen the movie and didn't have pictures in my mind for each theme. It is redolent of Africa though and that in itself is satisfying.

5 out of 5 stars Luka Bloom at his finest.......2004-09-21

Would highly recommend,A great blend of lyrics and music this material is not dated.

4 out of 5 stars Peddling the Light Poetic.......2003-10-10

This is Luka Bloom's second album, and it remains an astounding achievement. Like many Irishmen, he has a deep need to brood and give voice to his melancholy. He does so with such grace and passion, that it is hard to not get swept up by his emotional power. At the same time, he's got a delightfully inspiring sense of humor. How else would you explain a faithfully rendered version of LL Cool J's "I Need Love," performed as if it were truly a folk ballad, complete with a fiddler in the fade?

Luka's beauty also rests in his national pride, most evident in "This Is Your Country" and in the disc's closing number "Be Well." I remember having to explain the line "an Atlantic sunset fills your mind" to a man who thought that Luka had committed a ridiculous geographical gaffe. But it's easy to hear his commitment to this music in his voice. Only once on "The Acoustic Motorbike" is there a slip into the lyrically awkward, and that his attempt at the vaguely political "Listen To the Hoofbeat." There is still enough firepower musically to cover that minor quibble.

He also plays a stunning live show, and if you ever get to see him play, do so. You will be richer for it.

5 out of 5 stars Mellow moods and acoustic jams..........2002-09-24

It's difficult to describe this album as it has a really unique style and sound. For some reason, the word 'cool' comes to mind.

I first heard Luka Bloom on some obscure video channel playing his rendition of L.L. Cool J's 'I Need Love'. Luka Bloom's version is fantastic. Rather than drum beats and rap you'll find the acoustic guitar and Luka's accent while 'rapping' setting the song apart. It's worth it for this song alone.

As with many pleasantly surprising finds, the rest of the songs are also fantastic. There are some mellow pieces and some rather rocking pieces, all driven by his acoustic guitar. Yet there are other subtle instrumentations that make their way into your hearing with repeated listenings. It has grown on me over the years and I have yet to tire of it. A good find if you're looking for something a bit apart from the mainstream.

5 out of 5 stars Spirited.......2002-04-05

I love 90% of this album.

Well, more accurately, a little more than that, as there are 12 tracks...

This is the second album by Luka Bloom, though apparantly his fourth or fifth in all - he recorded some obscure, out of print albums in Ireland as Barry Moore, before swtiching personas, (and apparantly styles), to get out of his brother's shadow.

Well, having never heard the Barry Moore albums, all I know is that I love Luka Bloom. He has a wonderful voice, and a vivid performance style. "Exploring the Blue" is a lovely, soft track, but does not descend into empty mellowness - even in the soft moments, the music is full of spirit, emotion to the fore. LL Cool J's "I need Love" is completely transformed in this cover, easily one of my all time favourite Luka tracks.

The one track that falls flat for me is "Listen to the Hoofbeat", which is musically promising at the opening, but loses it in the vocal melody, and loses it worse in the lyrics. Luka's most overt political moments are often his weakest, not because the issues are unimportant, but because he cannot seem to get past slogans into the heart of the matter ("Forgiveness" on Salty Heaven, is the exception). His more subtle political tracks, those where the issues come second to the music, are invariably twice as strong.

Still, aside from that, this album is powerful. Luka plays around with several different syles and moods, with covers and originals, and the passion of an artist still discovering his strong points. Some songs are more rough gems than others, inevitable when an artist is still experimenting, but equally inevitable, the album is more interesting, because the talent and the voice shine through, and the artist hasn't fallen prey to the dangers inherent once he's established his sound - there's no chance of stagnation or repetition. I just hope his future albums never do fall prey to that; there's too much good stuff going on here.

4 out of 5 stars Solid Aalbum From a Solid Artist.......2001-01-06

Bloom's second album, after his stunning debut "Riverside," was, perhaps, destined to disappoint by comparison, but the fact that it comes so close to matching is a bold testament to his talents.

This album begins with the startling "Mary Watches Everything," and ends with the simple, but decidedly NOT silly, love song "Be Well." In between we get another impressive set of Luka originals, mixed in with a pair of terrific covers, the Elvis standard "Can't Help Falling In Love," and a wild version of LL Cool J's (yes, that's right) "I Need Love." All and all a first rate album from a first rate artist.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing Technical Performance!.......2003-01-23

This CD is excellent, but at times difficult to listen to because of its modern nature. Most of the compositions on the album have distinct compositional techniques developed in the later part of the 20th century, and at times the music becomes so dissonant that it is painful.

However, Lindberg turns in another superb performance. The literature presented is incredibly difficult, and is made even more so by the modern style. As a trombone player, I love Lindberg's style. His tone is amazingly soft and rich, but his technical performance through that sound is so crisp and clean that it is almost unbelievable.

          Product Description

This debut release by Orange County, California rockers, English Motorbike represents the music they have been sharing with their audiences for the past three years at shows all up and down the west coast. Although they have an implicitly British moniker, these boys are all American. Not just in their geographical origin but in the roots of their music. It is blues-rock with influences of many other American musical expressions such as jazz, country, and pop. All of these musical influences are distilled through their appreciation of the great English blues-rock bands of the past such as The Yardbirds, Cream, The Faces, The Who, and The Rolling Stones. If you, like English Motorbike, are fans of this kind of rock, you will place Lonely Road by English Motorbike at the top of you CD stack.

4 out of 5 stars Smooth and bluesy rock, it is the music for road trip..........2005-08-20

Compare to their live performace, especially for their guitar performance, this band is much more versatile than this album shown, but as the first album, "Lonely Road" presents perfectly the concept of this band, a smooth and bluesy rock style music. All the tracks in this album remain the consistent and integrated quality of music. As the album title, this is a nice music for your own road trip.
