I didn't know what to expect when I ordered this CD, but I always I stumbled upon it while browsing through titles performed by the Prague Chamber Orchestra and thought it looked interesting. I had seen Bach's "Coffee" Cantata performed a few years back and this the thought of an Island Music chamber opera sounded intriguing to me. I'm so glad that I purchased it. I can't belive I've never heard of Jerre Tanner! Mr Tanner brilliantly blends Hawaiian musical tyles with Baroque to create a work that is truly unique. The libretto by Harvey Hess complements Mr. Tanner's score perfectly. The soloists are are very capable singers and actors, most notably soprano Marilyn Taylor as the young island girl Kolea. Ms. Taylor beautiful voice shines especially on "Kolea's Aria". Baritone David small is also enjoyable as Kolea's grumpy father. Tenor William Livingston, despite having the most impressive credits, was only passable as Kolea's suitor. His voice was unremarkable and somewhat irritating.

I hope to see more of Mr. Tanner as he gains recognition as a composer of classical music. I highly recommend this CD. Let it be an introduction to one of tommorow's great composers
