stealers wheel .......2007-01-08
its great you can get this on cd ...but the tracks should be re-master so the sound could sound better...you can hear better sound off gerry raffertys 2006 cd call days gone down ''the best of'' its a import most of stealers wheel hits are there.
There's a better Stealers Wheel collection available.......2004-12-02
This "Best Of" is the NOT the definitive Stealers Wheel collection. You may want to steer yourself to "Stuck in the Middle with You," the 2000 Polygram International release that is the first to include "Stuck In The Middle With You," "Star" and "Everyone's Agreed That Everything Will Turn Out Fine," Stealers Wheel's three charting American Singles. (Note that "Fine" is not on this particular set.)
Also worth noting, both the debut "Stealers Wheel" and "Ferguslie Park" are back in print, on CD for the first time.
Made me feel good again!.......2004-11-20
I didn't give it 5 stars only because I tend to skip around the CD when in my car to get to songs I prefer (or skip back to them). I suppose we all have different tracks we like and a few that really make us feel inspired when we hear them. I bought this album for "Stuck in The Middle With You" but "Star" and "Steamboat Row" really work for me. Of course "Late Again", "Wheelin'", "Nothing's Gonna Change My Mind" are really good too. I do agree with another reviewer who said that "Stuck in The Middle" kind of moved to the rear. There are songs that are better than "Stuck" (hard to believe but true) on this disc. If you feel a little misty for the past this is an album you should have!
The best Stealers Wheel collection.......2004-06-23
This is the best (and only) Stealers Wheel collection available. It includes their only two top 40 hits, the top 5 classic Stuck In The Middle With You and Star. It also includes strong selections from their 3 albums. My only complaint is that it is missing the minor hit Everyone's Agreed That Everything Will Turn Out Fine, which just missed the top 40. Considering it was their 3rd biggest hit, there is really no excuse not to include it on any Stealers Wheel compilation.
Great Collection But By Default.......2002-11-01
Gerry Rafferty went solo with the critically acclaimed "Can I Have My Money Back" album after he dissolved his partnership with Bill Connolly in the Humblebums. In 1972 Rafferty hooked up with another partner Joe Egan in Stealers Wheel.
Here, Rafferty hit his stride with a more worthwhile songwriting partner in Joe Egan. With 'Stuck In the Middle With You', it seemed like they were on to great fortune in releasing three solid albums in "Stealers Wheel", "Ferguslie Park" and "Right Or Wrong" with production from Lieber and Stoller ( of Coasters fame) on the first two albums and Mentor Williams (Dobie Gray's 'Drift Away') on the last. Unfortunately the hits dropped off dramatically after 'Stuck In the Middle' with their three album legacy tragically destilled (or hacked) down to this pleasing fourteen track compilation.
From the harmonium driven 'Late Again' to the haunting, surreal ballad 'Next To Me'(both from the "Stealer's Wheel" album 1972), from rockin' 'Wheelin'' and lively Brewer and Shipley styled hit 'Star' (both from "Fergulie Park" 1973) and from the power pop of 'Go As You Please' to the strange mix of Gregorian chant and Celtic waltz melody in 'Benediction'(both songs from "Right Or Wrong" 1975)you can't lose. Great folk CSN&Y harmonies abound sometimes set accessible pop melodies, or to haunting celtic arrangements and even some power pop sensibilities.
It is with a bit of trepidation that I am giving this compilation a five star. It is only by default because this seems to be the only release available by Stealer's Wheel and it is easy to have a good listening experience from a collection that came from already solid releases.
This Collection should be only a starting point. If you can find the original albums on CD then go for it (I was only able to obtain 'Ferguslie Park' on CD as a Japanese import about ten years ago) or otherwise seek out vinyl copies of "Stealers Wheel", "Ferguslie Park" and "Right Or Wrong". Or better yet, we all ought to petition the reissue labels to issue these original three on compact disc.
"Baker's Street" would actually be anti-climactic.

Say what you will, but this is a must have CD........2006-12-01
All the popular tunes and a few more obscure ones that are essential additions to a great 80's metal collection. The sound quality is great.
Fastway - 'The Collection' (Connoisseur).......2006-02-07
Here's one Fastway release, that until here recently I never even knew about.Nineteen tracks pulled from the four 'key' Fastway albums. You get tunes from their '83 self-titled debut,'84's 'All Fired Up',86's 'The World Waits For You' and their '87,tough to beat 'Trick Or Treat' movie soundtrack. So,there you go.Wish these guys would consider a reunion sometime.Seriously doubt they ever would.Wonder what Dave King is up to these days.

ALL FIRED UP FOR THIS ONE!.......2001-08-05
Well, as i was perusing amazon.com looking for something to pick up, i came across this little ditty.Enjoying my teen years in the 80s,this was one of the bands that i loved, sadly i was one of the few people i knew that even cared about this band, but for the life of me i cant understand why thier label never got this band over with the fans of rock music at the time. I was doubly pleased to find tracks from the hard to find "waiting for the roar" release, which i still have on vinyl. This thankfully omits any releases of the post-dave king incarnation of fastway, which spawned 2 of the most unforgettable releases of rock history which were "bad, bad girls" and "on target".But i digress, as far as this one is concerned it also features tracks from the trick or treat record, and one of the greatest rock songs ever, "say what you will".Eddie Clarke who was the guitarist from fastway made a major mistake by letting dave king go, this guy easily is the most underrated singer i have ever heard, any fans of dave king can find his work on a cd from a band called katmandu, which only released one cd but it was a great one at that, dave can be heard now in a band called flogging molly which can be described as a irish-folk,rock,punk band who are currently touring on the warped tour 2001.Any fans of fastway who want a greatest hits collection do themselves a service to get this one rather than the other one out there released by thier label.
Waiting for the "release".......2000-10-06
Fastway is one of the most under-rated bands of the 80's and early 90's. This collection is a pretty good represenative of the band and includes songs from what I feel is one of the best albums of all time--Waiting for the Roar. I am fortunate enough to have 2 copies of WFTR, and I would not give them up for anything. A couple of years ago, I would have probably bought this cd just for the first four tracks. I see by Amazon's sales ranking that this set is selling pretty good considering, so why won't some record company re-release WFTR and All Fired Up? I guess it's the same story as Twisted Sister's Come Out and Play--it took years for someone to release that one--Dee Himself.

Dutch group Shocking Blue scored a major hit when they released the single 'Venus' from the 1969 LP 'At Home'. (Bananarama covered it in 1986.) This 20-song collection features that track, plus 'Love Buzz' (covered by Nirvana in 1989), 'Lucy Brown is Back in Town' & much, much more.

Satisfaction.......2004-03-26
.
I initially only knew 'Venus' in the 1960s.
I was travelling to Greece via Italy in 1971. By the time my plane landed, I quickly heard what I was missing. I lived in Greece during the early 1970s; their rock stations played Shocking Blue songs in heavy rotation. Likewise, music programming from BBC World Service and throughout Europe included their grand discography with steady airplay. I was satisfyingly thrilled with their styles.
I picked up a few records when I travelled to the Nederlands where they were absolutely - obviously - top-of-the-charts.
I returned 'home' saddened. How disappointing travelling cross-country during these years that U.S.A. markets still limit themselves to 'Venus'! Nothing changed during my absence - and since then. How disheartening hearing deejays and so-called musicologist experts deride them as a 'one hit wonder'. I knew better. I carried a secret that everyone is eventually learning on their own.
It is a pleasant sense of satisfaction whenever I hear their music from my collection - as well as hear their music covered by other artists or used in movies and television.
The Beatles are my number one band. Shocking Blue and Focus are two outstanding Dutch bands which clearly rival the Beatles for uniqueness, variety, and ingenuity. American radio stations neglected their audiences - they denied you the treat of both of them during their prime.
Deny yourself no longer. You will be pleased with any Shocking Blue music.

My 4th favorite Dutch band........2002-05-18
Ok,reading Googanders review I have to agree and at the same time disagree. It is not terribly bad,but just simple, very catchy pop tunes, that was the norm at the time, ehh I guess still is.You listen to any pop song these days and it follows the same structure.Anyways,Venus needs no introduction(exept
the fact that it has been #1 in the US 3 times by 3 different artists(a first)).Send me a Postcard was the song that got me hooked way back, and is a pulsating,psychedelic-ish dinger of a song. The rest of this disc is a pleasant postcard from the past of Dutch pop.
Uh...wierd..........1998-11-10
Years ago I first heard Nirvana do this cover called "Love Buzz". Great song, rocked. I knew it was a cover but didn't know who wrote it. Well, later in some Absinth addled fit I'm introduced to Shocking Blue. My friend says "listen to this" and it's Love Buzz. It was awesome. I made him play the whole album for me. Shocking Blue is essentially terrible. It's like they wanted to be Jefferson Airplane but couldn't quite pull it off. But for some reason I really like it. I don't think I'll ever be able to put my finger on why I listen to this album other than it's really bad and really good at the same time. Oh, they do 'Venus" as well. So just buy this album 'cause it's worth having. It's just plain wierd.
THE SHOCKING BLUE IS THE BEST UNPOPULAR DUTCH BAND EVER!!!!.......1998-07-08
YOU'D BE A FOOL IF YOU DON'T CHECK THIS DISC OUT FOR IT'S FABULOUS YET DATED SOUNDS.... SITARS TO THE FORE AND A SUPER STRONG FEMALE VOICE THAT WILL CRUSH ANY CHICK AROUND TODAY. GOOD SONGWRITING AND INTERESTING COUNTRY/PSYCHEDELIC HYBRID GUITAR VAMPS. I LOVE EM!!!

not a very impressive collection.......2006-03-24
I didn't know a whole alot about Blancmange when I decided to purchase this album. I had seen the "Living On The Ceiling" music video on an 80'sMTV channel & heard "Don't Tell Me" on satellite radio. I'd figure this collection would be to my liking, but I was disappointed. Alot of the tracks weren't memorable or catchy. "God's Kitchen", "I've Seen The Word" & "Feel Me" are good songs, they have that Talking Heads vibe to them. I'm not sorry I purchased this album, for I enjoyed a small percentage of these songs.
GOOD...BUT ALL THE CDS NEED REMASTERING.......2003-05-14
This best of is just another example of the need of remastering the whole catalog. There are great songs lost as a result missing from Happy Families, Mange Tout, and Believe You Me. Waves, included here, has the possiblity of making one forget the troubles of the day and place one in the middle of a quick vacation of fun, clouds, and humor, what other bands can you say have done that?
Do not overlook this band...they had more talent than Depeche Mode, and others, at this time, and one wishes that they should have persued making more music together.
It's like a beautiful flower cut down...it makes one cry.
Best of Blancmange.......2001-07-12
The Best of Blancmange? If you were in high school somewhere in the neighborhood of 1982 and 1986 you may remember this band. This collection pulls together the major highlights of this synth duo with odd hair and wacky senses of humor. Living on the Ceiling (their only scrape with the charts) and Vishnu have some eastern influences while Don't Tell Me and What's Your Problem provide some insight to how pervasive David Byrne's influence actually was in the eighties. This record has a generous selection of songs from their best release (Mange Tout) which included their deadpan cover of Abba's The Day Before You Came, fifteen years before covering Abba became fashionable. Consider them akin to OMD with substance, or Depeche Mode with a sense of humor. Either way, this is a fine collection of pop songs that will make you want to laugh or to dance.

" Take Control Of Passport ".......2000-06-25
"Passport Control" is a nice compilation recording of Klaus Doldinger's early years as one of the most influential Jazz/Fusion musicians there is! This recording is jam packed with tunes from the albums: Doldinger, Second Passport, Handmade, Looking Thru, Doldinger Jubilee Concert, Cross Colateral, Doldinger Jubilee '75, and Infinity Machine. It also contains a previously unreleased version of "Yellow Dream". This CD is also more than 77 minutes long and is a great, original example of the 70's German musical movement known as "Krautrock. In 1995 another compilation, two disk CD was released called "Spirit Of Continuity" which contains tunes from the early years all the way up to 1993's release of "Down To Earth" and has an excellent Saxed up version of "Das Boot" recorded live. A must have CD for sure!

Customer Reviews:
A Decent Collection Of MB's Songs.......2004-10-28
I became a fan when I got Power & Passion on cassette back in 1985. Great album! It's hard to find it on cd so this collection will have to do for now. This collection includes 6 tracks from P&P as well as great tracks from other albums like Runaway Dreams, MWACN (Slade), and Last Thing At Night (instrumental). I wish it had Running Away from Growing Up The Hard Way though. Pat McManus is a very good guitarist. His solos are always very melodic and well structured. I hope Power and Passion is re-issued soon!
Excellent re-issue of some of Mama's Boys best!.......2001-07-10
Mama's Boys is one of those bands that has a great deal of talent, but has never quite gotten the credit and accolades it deserves here in the States. The re-issue of some of their best-known songs on this CD reminds listeners once again of a band that is genuinely talented in its genre and, moreso, of a time when people still knew how to rock. Take a listen and you will quickly become enamored with Mama's Boys rather unique sound and distinct style--a style that continues to jumpstart both long-time and new fans alike.
At Last!.......2000-12-04
How many years should we wait for "Mama's Boys" records on CD? At last someone released a "Collection". I think this CD is a good collection of tracks of the three previous albums. The other revievers tell that the third album "Growing Up the Hard Way" is not a heavy album. This is true, but I think this one also has something good. If you consider the last six tracks as songs from a different band (I think so, because the three brothers were not alone on this record), you will like them too. The sound is more like a hard rock album, but I especially recommend "Waiting for a Miracle" and the Stevie Wonder song "Higher Ground". (I was in Portland/OR last year, and I looked for the album "Growing Up the Hard Way", but I could not be able to find a single copy, because all the CD's are sold nationwide! - This is an information I got from a bookstore CD info box.)
Of course if you like heavy sort of stuff with melodic but strong vocals, you should feel good having listened to "Crazy Daisy's House of Dreams", "Runaway Dreams", "Midnight Promises", and the rest from track number 7 to 12. "Lonely Soul" is a blues rock song.
Believe me, you will love to have this collection. Just $15 for a 3 album collection of an important band of 80's that you will never have the chance to see together again! (RIP Tommy McManus-I recently heard his death!)
Long Overdue!!.......2000-11-20
After many years of praying, the Irish power trio "Mama's Boys" has finally been archived on CD!! This is by far one of the most over looked bands of the great 80's. After building up a following in Ireland with indy LP's "Plug it In" and "Turn it Up" the McManus brothers (John-bass/vox,Pat "the Professor"-guitar and Tommy-drums)hit the US market in 1984.This 18 track disc features six cuts from each of the three U.S. albums, "Mama's Boys","Power and Passion",and "Growing Up the Hard Way". The best tracks are from the first 2 albums. "Crazy Daisey's House of Dreams",Gentlemen Rogues","Midnight Promises","Power and Passion","Don't Tell Mama",etc. You will plow through the first 12 cuts and rattle the windows. The last six cuts mellow out due to the addition of a new singer (Keith Murrell). So basically the disc goes from metal passion to a radio friendly Mike and the Mechanics sound for the last 6 tracks. This band had all the tools and killer tunes, but probably the worst health and luck. Foremost there were many momentum killing delays between releases due to drummer Tommy McManus battling luekemia for years(resulting in death in 1994).Lead vocalist/bassist John McManus blew out his voice prior to the 3rd album, hence the addition of a new vocalist and a new sound. I give the album 5 stars based soley on the first 12 tracks. Although die hard Mama's Boy's fans might not dig the 3rd album,it must be included to give an accurate snapshot of a truly talented band that has rocked my turntable for years. It's great to get on CD finally!! Get it now.Plug it in,turn it up and turn all your friends on to a powerfully talented band.
Brothers' McManus Kick.......2000-09-16
18 songs from their first three albums; S/T,"Power & Passion" and the mega disappointment "Growing Up Too Fast". 6 songs from each. I've been trying to locate the first two on disc ever since they came in the long boxes...years. Whoever spearheaded this compilation chose wisely. The first 12 songs are perfect representations of 80's metal at it's zenith. Mama's Boys were a top rate power trio(all three were brothers) from Ireland who were raised on potatoes...probably...fiddle, folk, bagpipes and SLADE!!! I would love to have the entire content of their first two albums. This gem will do. Great guitar, driving bass, heavy skins, fresh vocals with arena screaming choruses. They might have made it to the cult status that such bands as Black'N"Blue, Kick Axe, Helix and Twisted Sister made it to, had it not been for the throat problems of the brother McManus who sang lead vox and played bass. Screaming, touring, smoking?, and just sheer rock'n'rolling must had taken it's toll. Admirabley, they didn't quit the biz. Unadmirabley, they hired some cheese-baked singer to take over vocals and his puny interpretation of "ROCK!" saturated their next release all the way down to the once incredible Prof. McManus's guitar. Consequently, the last 6 tracks on this compilation are taken from this...this...piece of...plastic. But, hey, the other 12 songs "ROCK!" and for the price, it's hard to find a release today that even has 12 "listenable" songs on it. I hope they release the first two records in their entirety someday soon. If you're having doubts about this disc just hear these titles and let the memories come pouring in: Crazy Daisy's House of Dreams, Mama Were All Crazy Now, Needle In The Groove, Runaway Dreams, Hard and Loud, Staight Foward to name a few. A must for any fan of 80's hard rock before the mega-fluff, the hair storm and Winger!!!

Album Description
Shane Fontayne's first solo CD "What Nature Intended" has been compared to World Party and Crowded House. A sophisticated collection of guitar driven material, that is at once melodic and romantic, lush with vocal harmony and then lyrically sardonic and forceful, with hard hitting Sixties style pop sensibilities. Los Angeles radio station KCRW has been playing four cuts from "What Nature Intended" and so far ten cuts have been played around the world. Swedish DJ Kalle Oldby describes the CD as:"Soaring, muscular and Beatles inspired. As good as it is unexpected. It's springtime for real musicians indeed"

Musical Opium...........2005-08-25
I tend to be a real jazz girl and the first couple time I listened to the sound clips on [...]I just thought "ugh.. this isn't my kind of music" but then for some reason I kept going back to listen to it more and more!
There's so much nuance to it, the sounds just draw you down this lush eclectic path where there's always something new to find. There's a very groovy Lennon-esqe vibe to many of the songs. Chris Botti called it "Musical Opium" and I have to agree because once you start listening you just want to hear more and more. I'll happily wander into that poppy field because there's always something different to pick up on in this colorful dreamstate that is "What Nature Intended".
This album is NOT a snooze! "Bubble and Squeek" provides a fabulous momentum to get you moving and is a great way to start your work out!
If you have this album and want to hear it with a rawer edge be sure to pick up "Voodoo at The Mint" from Shane's website. It's a Live recording of the "What Nature Intended" release party and it's brilliant! Voodoo is also a MUST HAVE for any Chris Botti collector!
*The Great Shane Fontayne*.......2005-08-03
This album is fabulous!!! Many people haven't heard the name Shane Fontayne, but he has been playing great music for many years. He toured with Sting earlier this year on the Broken Music tour, and has performed with musicians like Chris Botti, Bruce Springsteen, Marc Cohn, U2, Richard Marx and a myriad of others.
"What Nature Intended" is Shane's first solo album and it is *fantastic*. I wasn't really sure what to expect, but it's really a mixture of upbeat songs and slower, ballad types. One of the things I noticed is each song is unique unto itself... I don't think there are two songs on this album that sound anything alike. His lyrics are really thought out.. they are quite incredible and provocative. Shane is a master guitar player - and you hear that on this album, whether he's playing an electric guitar or an acoustic, or any of the other instruments he plays. Shane also has a beautiful voice - it's very smooth. Chris Botti plays trumpet on a few of the tracks and he is superb, as usual.
If you enjoy this cd, there's a live cd that was recorded at The Mint, with many of the same songs. It's available at Shane's website. Enjoy!!!
Shane Fontayne ROCKS!.......2003-10-14
If you haven't had the chance to pick up What Nature Intended, Shane Fontayne's first solo CD, waste no more time and order it today! Newly released, this CD is an amazing journey. You've probably heard Shane's incredible guitar work in the studio or gracing the stage of a number of world reknowned musicians including Springsteen, U2 and a host of others. Currently playing with and opening for phenom Marc Cohn, make it a point to catch this musical great in concert if you're lucky enough to have them stop by a city near you!!!
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz..........2003-09-15
What a disappointment. I appreciate Shane's attention to vocals, but he could have made a truly singular CD w/his signature guitar sound & style. Instead, he played it safe by strumming his acoustic just like a thousand singer/songwriters before him. And for someone w/supposedly rockabilly roots, he sure forgot the "rocka" part. This could have been called "A Cure for the Sleep-Deprived". The only song that approaches what I expected is "Voodoo in the House" & even there he lets the trumpet drown him out. And, personally, I don't need to hear any 1920s-style songs like the next-to last cut. "When I'm 64" was fine. Now let's move on. I thought I was in for a letdown when I saw Jay Bellerose was the drummer. Sorry, Paula & Shane, but I could play drums as well as him & I don't play anything. Maybe it will grow on me, but I expected the original ideas & sounds I love from Lone Justice & Merchants & I just don't hear 'em.
Fantastic Music From The Talented Mr. Fontayne.......2003-03-21
After hearing Shane play live, I bought two copies a month ago, one for the car & one for the house. His music is constantly playing in both. Hauntingly beautiful, rocking songs from the heart. Definite Beatles influence .... but with a fresh new sound. Major labels & radio stations take note!! This is GREAT STUFF!!

Customer Reviews:
What might have been.......2006-04-25
Hughes wanted to sing lead, Bolin just wanted to be somewhere else, Coverdale was, well, Coverdale and Paice and Lord just did what they did (no more - no less). Five talented musicians, yes and it shows on this album. When in the mood these guys could flat play. The problem was that they were not in the mood too often - which the liner notes correctly points out (as well as their steady drug usage -both Bolin and Hughes were serious abusers).
So Coverdale and Hughes were already talking about their upcoming solo albums during the tour and Bolin had just released "Teaser" - its hard to say that being 'Deep Purple' was their highest priority - especially on a long tour.
Which is the pity. On this album these guys rock! 'Come Taste the Band' was a good solid FIRST album for these guys (which is how I think of it). Those not-quite-Deep-Purple-songs showed that these guys clearly had potential as a group. So Live - they simply blew it out on both the old and new stuff. Most nights that is. Or at least some nights.
One is tempted to wonder 'what if' the name 'Deep Purple' with all its baggage - both good and bad, wasn't just too heavy a load for them? 'Smoke on the Water' and 'Highway Star' are clearly rock anthems, I'm not sure they should be considered as hymns - but the fans did. Old stuff, new stuff, solo stuff, drug stuff all became too much stuff - the band disbanded at the end of this tour.
Anyway this album is from a 'good night'. Lord and Bolin working against each other, Paice and Hughes keeping it solid and Coverdale screaming the songs along - so forget the 'what ifs' and just enjoy a fine rock album.
Very good.......at times!.......2004-01-25
This is certainly Deep Purple MKIV at their best when you compare this record to "the other record" (Last Concert In Japan). The problem with MKIV was, IMO, first of all that drugs were at this time playing a big part in the band. Bolin and Hughes drug abuse is well documented, and I think that their behavior did much harm to the band. Hughes voice is not on top form here like it was in '74, but he gets the job done even though he, at times, sound a little "tired". Great bassplaying as always! Tommy Bolin gives a very good impression here, but at times it sounds like he is afraid of even trying to fill Mr. Blackmores shoes. On his own solosongs and the songs from Come Taste The Band (a truly great Purple offering) he is amazing, and shows why Billy Cobham chose him to play on his Spectrum album.
Lord and Paice is great as always. Paice is at his peak here, and Lord is...well, Lord!! Coverdale sounds a little "tired" at times, but does a fairly good job.
All in all a great Purple record that shows that the MKIV line-up had potential as a liveband. The band sounds really funky, and shows a new side of Purple that I like very much. To bad that someone blew it by living the rock'n roll lifestyle...
DEEP PURPLE ON THE WINGS OF A FOXBAT.......2003-11-26
WHEN I WAS 13 YEARS OLD I HEARD A BOOTLEG WITH DEEP PURPLE CALLED ON THE WINGS OF A RUSSIAN FOXBAT AND WHEN THE FIRST SONG CAME OUT FROM THE SPEAKERS I JUST KNEW THIS IS GONNA CHANGE MY LIFE ... THE SONG WAS BURN ..NOW I GOT THIS DOUBLE CD AND NOW I CAN HEAR THE FULL CONCERT AND WHAT CAN I SAY DEEP PURPLE FINEST WITH TOMMY BOLIN...THE MUSIC IS SO FUNKY AND HEAVY AND TOMMY IS PLAYING LIKE NEVER BEFORE ..DONT BUY THIS TIME AROUND LIVE IN TOKYO(2cd)BUY THIS IT SO BETTER AND THE SOUND QUALLITY IS SO GOOD ::CHEERS DANIEL GARDSKÄR DEEP PURPLE FAN SINCE 1996
DEEP PURPLE MK4 AT THEIR BEST !!.......2003-10-02
This is A-W-E-S-O-M-E. Great Concert. Buy it, enjoy it, love it.
"Burn" starts the concert with great enthusiasm. "Lady Luck" & "Love Child" at their best moment. "Getting Tighter" by then is a great chance for the band to jam, including parts of songs that Glenn Hughes was going to record on his first solo album, like "It's About Time", magistral verion. An incredible version of "Smoke On The Water" that ends up with "Georgia On My Mind" and Glenn Hughes singing his best ever vocal performance. Specially the first version on CD1. "This Time Around" is delightful. "Stormbringer" is superb and stands strong. The verion of "Highway Star" is a re-newed great one. This is a MUST HAVE for DP fans and very enjoyable for people who enjoys a great & loud rock and roll show.
One thing I notice in reviews is that people overlooked the performance of the "WHOLE BAND". They just go to the guitarrists and then it's a "BAD ALBUM 'cos Ritchie Blackmore is not here" or "GREAT ALBUM 'cos Tommy Bolin is awesome". The GREATEST of Deep Purple is having so much talent to offer. For drummers, Ian Paice; for Hammond Organ lovers, Jon Lord; for singers, Glenn Hughes & David Coverdale... and so on. So stop it with making focus on the guitarists and enjoy the whole music that each member has to offer ;-)
Unbelievably Awesome!.......2000-06-23
Note: This album is a 5-star rating if you're a Mk 4 DP fan. If you're not yet a fan of the Bolin era, this might either change your mind.. it might also turn you off, so be warned.
Still, it is awesome stuff! Folks have always ridden the Mk4 live reputation hard, mostly because of the awful Last Concert in Japan recording. Throw that one away and get this set and the soon-to-be-released This Time Around. Bolin gives incredible life and energy to this performance, featuring a strong performance by Jon Lord and what has to be THE BEST drumming to come out of Ian Paice. High points are "Burn", "Gettin' Tighter", a very soulful "This Time Around", and a mean, growling, gut-crunching version of "Stormbringer". Dean says you gotta check it out, and all my DP buds who heard it agree.
