Editorial Reviews
From the Artist
This unique recording is a compilation of double bass ensembles in which I have recorded all the tracks separately, so on the recording the ensembles you hear are all performed by me. Being very interested in chamber music and because to the best of my knowledge this has never been done, I thought it would be interesting to put out a CD of double bass ensembles recorded by one player.
About the Artist
Doublebassist Volkan Orhons career spans a wide variety of solo, orchestral and chamber music performing and teaching across the country and around the world. His playing has been described as "brilliant," and "like a great singer" and his musicality described as "emotional intensity." Mr Orhon was a finalist and prizewinner in the Concert Artists Guild Solo Competition in New York City. In June of 1999 he was the co-first place winner of the International Society of Bassists Solo...

Album Description
The CD consists of a variety of double bass ensembles from duets to ensembles with as many as 13 tracks. Some of the pieces were originally written for double bass, and others such as Barbers Adagio for Strings and Villa-Lobos "Aria" from Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5 were transcriptions. The piece Notes from Uncommon Ascent was written for me by Connecticut Composer Tom Schuttenhelm specifically for this project.

Same Old Same Old.......2006-04-09
If someone asked me what album I'd recommend to get an average feel for what Dave's records are like, I'd recommend this one, because it averages just about everything he does. His latest albums seem to follow a formula of certain grooves that feature his spactacular playing (no doubt about it), but I bought this formula in the last few studio albums already. Trust me, if you have two or three of Weckl's previous works - you already have this album as well!
End of the road (?).......2005-12-26
I own every album the band put out in the past and obviously a lot of jazz and fusion records with Dave at the drums. I say this last release from Dave isn't bad, but it's not that memorable in my opinion. It's a little bit slick. Everything falls in place, everything is perfect ... there's not fire. You listen to it and it's gone like fresh water, it doesn't leave you almost nothing. The best albums from the band are still Hard Wired, Master plan and maybe Rhythm from the soul I'd say (and the live one). Especially Hard wired. It's not even Dave's fault in my opinion. I think that in this kind of fusion music after few albums you come to the end of the road. Simply you don't have nothing more to say and so you can only stay there going nearer jazz in one album or near "rock" in the other. Sometimes it is convincing, sometimes a little less. This time to me it's a little less, this time the music lacks a little bit of personality. It's too slick, too educated, to synthetic music the one contained in this cd. There's not too much fire. Obviously the guys plays great bla bla bla bla. But when you have thousands of cds with great players involved you need to find great music in it. Knowing that these guys are exceptional musicians (and they are for real expecially Dave) it's not enought for me. If I'd be in Dave's shoes probably I'd take some time to think about the future of this band, about choosing with great attention what material to play next with it. Or the toy could be broken.
Dave delivers..........2005-11-02
This is an excellent album by a fusion band. For the other reviewers who are looking for something "different", I think they are looking in the wrong place. The band's charter is sophisticated time modulations, complex harmony, and plenty of groove... and they deliver. Strong song writing is found throughout the CD, and the melodies quite memorable. It might take more than a quick listen to each of the 20-second song samples to really appreciate the music. After listening to the entire CD several time, the material really grew on me. The band is air-tight and Dave's playing is better than ever. His drumming in inventive and tasteful.
I saw the band play this material live in NYC in October, and it was even more powerful in a live setting. There aren't many fusion bands out there now, but this one is carrying the torch. Well done!
Lou from Detroit.......2005-10-19
Multiplicity is well worth buying. Great tunes. Great melodies. Great rythm. Great talent. All the things missing in most popular music today. Also, don't pass up the chance to see them perform live. Enjoy!
Same Different!.......2005-10-18
Honestly, I think this album is pretty crap..am not braggin about the technique or their style..but if u listen to every song carefully, each of them actually is very similar to a song in either synergy or transition. They are just played differently but using similar scales and grooves and they make it sounds way more busy..and harder to listen to for first timer listener of this Genre.
Quite frankly, I'm pretty dissapointed with this album. I would expect something "NEW" as they normally never failed to show us.*SIGHH*
I hate to say this cuz they are one of my favourite band!

Customer Reviews:
Welcome to Bass Ensemble Heaven!.......2003-01-14
This album is really excellent. I admire its wonderful programming of music and superb playing by Mr. Volkan Orhon. Multiplicity is a wonderful addition the bass ensemble repertoire. If you haven't heard David Anderson's work yet (as a bass player) that is reason enough to buy this record. The Bach is my favorite piece on the album. I really like Orhon's interpretation of Barber's Adagio for Strings. If you like bass ensemble music, this is the record for you...if you listen long enough, you may stumble onto the hidden track which also makes this compact disc with the price alone. This CD is the work of one of the world's greatest bass players.
Sit back, listen and enjoy!
