Customer Reviews:
Instruments of the Orchestra - Great Reference Material!.......2007-04-04
This set lends itself to greatly enhancing one's knowledge of the orchestra, instruments in it, and their usage. I am a huge music buff, and I still picked up a great deal I previously did not know. I highly recommend this for all who wish to understand the origin of music, as well as the processes that are employed to create music!
Beginner or Expert.......2007-03-12
This CD is excellent for the beginner or expert! To be able to haear the instrumets separately and then together really provides a good education. and/or refresher. The book thaty comes with the CD is alomost worth the price by itself!
Very Informative and Enjoyable.......2006-11-20
Whether you're a music novice or pro, "The instruments of the Orchestra" is a very worthwhile purchase. The 7 CDs, with a total of 8 hours, are expertly narrated by Jeremy Siepmann. He's a great speaker, very much like the late Leonard Bernstein was. Mr. Siepmann takes you on an unforgetable musical journey covering the origins and use of the various orchestral instruments throughout musical history. The balance between his narration and a wealth of musical examples, which range from snippets to entire movements, is superb. The comprehensive enclosed booklet is excellent and faithfully follows the 7 CDs in content. Even with my 40+ years of music training I still learned new things from this wonderful collection. Considering the excellence of the content, and a cost that translates to about $5 per disc, this collection is a great value. Grab it, you won't regret that you did. Five solid stars!
Frank's view.......2006-08-19
This boxed set of CD's with booklet achieved all I had hoped that it would. There are good samples of individual instruments and well done commentary on each. The only drawback was that some of the samples were too brief and could have been longer, hoiwever I guess this fits in with time constraints of the medium. It has given me a lot of clues as to future purchases of CD's for listening to individual instruments. Altogeth a satisfactory purchase and a welcome addition to my collection.
Excellent Intro for Those Not Familiar with the Orchestra.......2003-11-08
I've listened to classical music for years and am interested in composition. I bought this CD set to learn how an orchestra and its instruments work. I thought the CDs would be a nice but boring lecture. They aren't! Not only are they FUN but they are informative as well. I learned a huge amount from each CD and couldn't wait to listen to the next one.
The narrator and writer is a great speaker and holds your attention well. He is definitely knowledgeable. He provides musical examples for each point he makes, so you get to "hear" what he just talked about. I'd say the CDs are about 65% music and 35% narration. You'll learn about the range of instruments, some history, different ways to play them, how they sound, and how they are used in the orchestra. This CD set was a great learning experience and is sold at such a low price!
I recommend this CD for those who want to learn about classical music and those who know about it but are interested in learning more about the inner workings of an orchestra. You'll learn much useful information. For instance, the Rite of Spring (with that eerie start) is written for bassoon! I never knew a bassoon could sound like that but now I do.
The one complaint I have is the last CD. This deals with the orchestra. I wanted more of a tour of how the orchestra has been used through history up to the present. Instead, it was a tour of how different groups of instruments sound. I thought it could have been better. The other 6 CDs are excellent.

Superior Collection in Every Way.......2005-01-14
Ofra Haza Greatest Hits, Volume One, is a beautiful and excellent 3 CD collection of 59 songs. This set along with Greatest Hits Volume Two offer a great compilation of most of Ofra Haza's best songs, as well as songs previously released only as 45 singles. Both volumes contain some great previously unreleased songs. Volume Two, another 3 CD set, contains an entire previously unreleased album, the excellent "Queen in Exile." Volume One is very worthwhile and satisfying even for those fans who already have all or most of her previously released material. Although I have all of her post 1977 albums except "Shirey Moledet Two", until this collection I have never heard the beautiful songs "Forty," "Listen to the Waves," "Jerusalem of Gold," "Haven't Talked About Love Yet," "The Golden Apple," "Sailor Boys," and "This Year inshalla." "Forty" is the best song here of the ones not previously released on album or CD. At least six of the previously released songs are alternate takes that I have never heard before. And for those unfamiliar with her, this set is a great introduction to Ofra Haza's music. The artwork, photos, the inserts, and the packaging are all tastefully and pleasingly done. You will not be disappointed. A highly recommended collection.

Customer Reviews:
it's from Hypnotic records...come on now.......2001-01-01
Hello, if you've been listening to goa for a while you would probably know that Hypnotic records really SUCKS, and anything with groups like Psygone is probably not all that great. The only cd I can think of by Hypnotic that actually was worth the money was "A Dose of Psychedelic Trance". Overall, this is a terrible album. If you like goa trance but aren't sure exactly what to buy, please don't buy this cause you will probably not like goa trance as much anymore. Go to a specialty site...and read the reviews...and buy stuff from labels like TIP world, Blue room released, Krembo, Koyote, Twisted, Boom, they are all good labels and you really cant go wrong. Just stay away from Hypnotic and it's sister label, Cleopatra. This album ended up in the trash after 1 listening, along with "Otherworld Transmission - Chapter one"
complain.......2000-07-29
my complain is not about the music, this is well mixed and really makes you trip, my complain goes to the people of this record label, who has not aparently a quality control, coz'in my case come the 2 cd's and the bonus, but the 2 cd's have the labels OK but the disc number 1 come recorded in both of the discs and it really piece me off, i really think that they should treat us more carefully. thanks
it really IS the GREATEST goa trance collection.......2000-04-02
initially, when I received this CD, I was disappointed, because due to unclear and misleading short description of this CD, i was expecting a cd by ASTRAL PROJECTION, when in fact its a collection by various artists. But before returning it I thought I'd give it a try. All I can say is I'm glad I didn't read the description more carefully, or I wouldn't have bought the best goa trance CD. I love it! Every single track is brilliant.
Read The CD Description CAREFULLY!.......2000-02-05
I am reading the negative reviews on this CD and am a bit baffled... This is NOT an Astral Projection CD - Astral Projection has a cut that appears ON this compilation! If you want Astral Projection only - order their CD's! They are ALL Excellent, as is this Goa Trance Collection. The transfer is excellent and DJ-Mixed, so there is no break on either CD from start to finish. The cuts chosen and groups chosen are Excellent representation of the Goa Psi-Trance Genre. They do however list that this is a 3-CD set, and it is actually, a 2-CD set, with a bonus CD thrown in by Hypnotic (the label). This "bonus 3rd CD" - is not all that great, just an older sampler of the label's from 1997. But "The Greatest Goa Trance Collection" is an excellent addition to your collection, offered at an unbeatable price.
Don't get collections, get the original.......2000-01-27
This cd has many good songs, but if you want to get some real music there is much much more in the original albums of these artists. There for you are not getting the whole pakage.

Customer Reviews:
GREAT!.......2003-02-28
I must be going through a "retro flashback" because I find myself after 30 years enjoying these songs all over again. I enjoy them now, but I'm glad this cd is the original recordings and not new recordings of their old songs. After all this time, I can still remember the words! They all have aged gracefully. And I'm so glad we can get their music again. At one time, it was very hard to find.
spartan.......2002-04-25
Three careers, three CDs: the statement being made is that they were only good for their singles, not their albums. May not be the intended message but that's what comes across. 1 CD of the Osmonds, 1 of Donny, 1 of Marie. In any of these cases you're better off with one of the 20+ track single disk compilations.
I decided to pass on this package, pull out my old vinyl and put together my own compilation instead so it would include must-have numbers like "I Knew You When" and "Flirtin'". To the compilers' credit they did include an album cut, "Chilly Winds", one of the Osmonds' finest moments ever. But I'd expect a box set to include a few b-sides or rarities too, things like "Keep On My Side" (the so-so flip of their best single, "Yo-Yo"). Yes they're from "Utah", include that song too!
All they really needed to do was to intertwine the songs from all the careers in chronological order over a four disk set to provide the depth that a worthy box set should give. With that kind of career perspective they could even afford to make you smile by including something ancient like "When The Red Red Robin..." from the Andy Williams show. Where the careers were seriously divergent, the cool and simple inclusion of interview sound bites between, e.g. "Last of the Red Hot Lovers" / "Crazy Horses" or "Going Going Gone" / "My Drum" would both help the segue and flesh out the box set beyond just a rote recitation of popular recordings. When they put THAT box set out, I'll buy it.
GREAT HITS-but not enough of them.......2002-03-23
Most of the classic hits of the Osmonds are included in these 3 C.d's but, as usual, there are hits missing. Where's "On the Shelf","This is the way that I feel", "Who's sorry now", "C'mon Marianne", "My love is a fire"! All top 40 hits and great songs. They added album cuts instead and the one's chosen are not even the better songs. If you're a new fan, then I recommend this set but for long time fans like myself this is a waste of money,if you're looking for songs new to c.d. The original albums need to be released on C.D!!! Five stars for the OSMOND FAMILY. Two for the people who compiled this so-called box set.
The Osmonds Anthology.......2002-01-03
Great gift for lovers of Osmond music!!
A MUST BUY!.......2001-11-01
This CD collection is awesome! I just love it. I listen to them everyday--especially the "brothers" CD. You will find them to be toe-tapping, heart-beating, always-smiling, need-to-be-dancing, memory-filling fun! If you love (or just like) the Osmonds, you'll love this collection box set!

Not The Original Versions Of The Hits: Save Your Money!.......1999-02-09
Unfortunately, the Chubby Checker original catalog (along with those of ? & Mysterians; The Tymes; Bobby Rydel and other Cameo/Parkway artists) are all out of print and in the vaults of ABKCO. Don't count on seeing the originals in print at anytime during our lifetime. Save your hard earned dollars and don't purchase this disc!

Album Details
Freestyle, house music's close cousin, exploded in popularity during the early 1980's. With artists like Stevie B, Trinere & TKA cranking out memorable jams like 'Party Your Body', 'I'll Be all You Ever Need' & 'Maria', fans went absolutley wild. This 1997 SPG label four-disc set captures the essence of the freestyle genre, featuring the hits from the artists mentioned above, plus songs by Nice & Wild, Pebbles, X-Posed, Debbie Deb & much, much more.

so close to perfect...but flawed.......2005-08-11
A definite buy for collectors of freestyle classic 12" versions on CD, but it's just not consistent enough. There are a few too many 7" versions, for instance, the really hard to get I Want You by Shana on CD, Some 12" versions are edited (the intro is missing from what goes around by giggles, for instance) and at other times, they opted for long album versions rather than the full 12" versions (Lisette Melendez and Trinere, for instance). Even so, you won't find a lot of this stuff on CD elsewhere, so try to get your hands on a copy of this compilation, or get each volume separately (they're listed here on amazon). Track times:

Freestyle music will never die for me.......2005-02-20
I bought this CD, and its cool. I grew up on the Lower East side of Manhattan (Las Avenidas) and as a teenager this was my music. We use to break dance at the circle with this and their were some carrying boomboxes and doing grafiti... I first fell in love to a nice rican girl with some of these songs. Therefore, I keep buying it and believe me a lot of people when they first here it say that it is nice...

Freestyle fans this cd is for you.......2004-04-03
Freestyle was a sound different from the mainstream. It was a latin hip-hop sound in which at times seem like sugar to the ears. But it was the sound that with help shape the eurodance sound of the mid to late 90's.Freestyle was the teen pop of many latino and non latino kids in the city.Withs its theme in love and heartbreak over latin flavored hip-hop.It was a moment in time and a sound of the late 80's teenager. Even know it never got as big as new jack swing it did leave its mark on dance pop.If you listen to the eurodance artists like amber, the real mccoys and labouche you will hear the keyboard licks of freestyle. As an Dj i'm always asked what music did i start playing first when i started djing 16 years ago.Freestyle was the first music i spun back in the day.All the songs on this cd was what i spun and they were popular. For me this cd really gives you the flavor of freestlye when it started going mainstream. Also when the sound started to die out.So pick it up and party your body
