This music take me away from every day troubles and brings my soul to a beutiful world of music.Saint-Saent's vision of music is different, his creations are sensitive and intence. He is agreat talent.

I think that the sound of Saint Saens Music is very unique. I think that anyone out there wanting to listen to some excellent writing I assure you that Saint Saens has written it. Astounding!!!.......2000-10-06

I have come accross very few CD's that have 74 minutes of music that I enjoy. This CD is one of those. Mason Jones does a great job on Morceau, everyone likes danse bachannalle, the piano concerto is great, it's just a really enjoyable CD to own. I recommend it highly, it's one of my favorites.

Great Selections, So-So Collection.......2000-06-23

As all good elementary school music teachers know, Saint-Saëns could evoke emotions from a rock. I don't know if it's his masterful command (or creation) of the idioms of music, or whether it's the formal structure of his compositions, but there's never any confusion about how one feels when listening to this Apollo.

This Sony recording supposedly collects his best. It does and it doesn't. The "Danse Macabre"--a perennial Saint Saëns fave--is definitely better than any others on the market--crisper, livelier, and ... er... creepier. And the Bacchanale is also superbly done. (Don't take my word for it though--you can compare these yourself from the various samples.) But as great as these individual pieces are, Sony failed to bring to the "Swan" the rest of the zoo from "Carnivale des Animaux," and, worse, they forgot the "Aquarium," too! Plus, the "Organ Symphony" *must* be heard in its entirety to sound like the serious piece of music that it is.

I haven't found the noumenal Saint-Saëns collection yet. But this one surely isn't phenomenal.

First of all, it's impossible to fit Mozart's best on 1 CD. But ok. The thing I don't get is the lack of vocal music on this disc!! Mozart's symphonic and orchestral works were great but his expertise was writing for the human voice. With not even one aria from his masterpiece operas on here, I have to give this collection a 1 star. Pathetic.

Best Mozart 'Mix'.......2005-02-15

If you love mozart, this is the best compilation of his works. A fine mix of his varied pieces. A CD you can just pop in and listen start to finish, good for the educated (musically) and the uneducated, well done (to say the least).

This along with Beethoven in the same series were very very good.
This is the first european classical music CD which I bought in India.The selections were great and the performance was excellent.Highly recommended for beginners.

This CD has all the songs you'd recognize for this great composer. We've played it every night for my daughter since she was 2 months old (she's 2 now) and she loves falling to sleep to it. You won't be disappointed and your wallet will thank you!

A must have for Galway fans.......2000-06-12

This was the first time I had ever heard James Galway. Since I play the flute, I wanted to find a good flutist to listen to. Galway is excellent; he plays classical and popular music alike. The theme from Pink Panther is the first song and it is a great intro to Galway. You will love the fast pace of Sabre Dance, and you'll be enchanted by Angel of Music from Phantom of the Opera. All the songs on this CD are top-notch and you should definitely buy it if you enjoy the flute.

Interesting Mix, but not for serious classical music listeners .......2005-08-08

Bach, Vivaldi, and Mozart are all too well known, but less known musics are blended well into this CD. That's why I bought this CD. I think this is a good CD to familiarlize myself to flute pieces, but as a serious classical music listener it may come in short as more than half of pieces in this CD are something too famous and were listened so many times. This CD can be used to know what I like and then move forward from there. I am the type of listener who listen to the entire Carmen of Bizet instead of listening to only one part or two of it. If a listener is unfamiliar with clessical music, I think this is a good one to start.

a must have flute cd.......2001-07-23

this is a great flute cd. i enjoy the fact that the cd has many preformers rather than just one. Jean-Pierre Rampal, of course probably the most famouse flutist, and William Bennett, an amazing flutist who I was fortuante enough to hear in person, are both on this cd, as well as a few other great flutist. i especially enjoyed Siciliene, because i have never heard it played with flute and hard, and because i have played the piece myself.

even if you haven't heard of some of these songs it is wonderful to listen to them. i recomend this cd for flutiests of all levels.

This cd is by far the most beautiful that I have ever heard! It just takes you away to another place and time, far from your worries, very relaxing. I highly reccomend this to anyone who loves beautiful music!

Bolling's Greatest Hits.......2007-05-13

If you haven't heard Claude Bolling's music, this is the CD you want to buy first. Not only does it have the best tunes of all his CDs each tune shows which CD it came from.

I love playing a Bolling tune and asking a friend is this Classical or Jazz? They'll always say it sounds like Classical and then it shifts to Jazz. Everyone that has heard his CDs goes out and buys it.

A Flutist's Intro to Bolling.......2002-10-20

Get this cd if you want to hear Bolling's works for flute before deciding if you would like to perform them. A great cd overall, maybe another brave flutist would like to redo these works? Although the late Jean-Pierre Rampal was known for doing 'the Picnic Suite' and 'Suite For Flute and Piano' I would like to add another artist to my collection.

Amazing Collection of Artist's & Bolling Compositions.......2001-05-01

Seems as here exhibited that the best of classical and jazz do have an area of union. Bolling combined the two by writing his suite for Flue and Jazz Piano, as well as these others for the specific performers.

How about writing a piece just for Jean-Pierre Rampal and Yo-Yo Ma?

Favorites include Baroque and Blue, Baroque in Rhythm and Rag-Polka.

This is music of a different sort, but most enjoyable. Bravo, Claude!

Great Price, Great CD........2000-10-06

This is a collection of some great Claude Bolling pieces, including one of my favorites on track 4. If Bolling's style appeals to you, or if you are just looking for some good clever jazz, go for this. It's quite different, and it's good.

Great starting point, but not much else........2000-03-14

Being a Vivaldi and Albinoni fan myself, many of my CD collections include many from these two composers. I was once new to this composer and this CD is a great way to to be introduced to the wonderful works that this once neglected genius has written. As one can see from the tracklist, it includes famed pieces such as the Four Seasons. In addition to the Four Seasons,this CD also includes Gloria, a genera that Vivaldi is not so famous for but nonetheless a magnificant track to listen. In short, as a (starter's kit) to Vivaldi, this is one of if not the best CD to have in one's collection. The only complain that I have about this CD is that it contains some movements of certain concertos rather than the whole concerto and thus as a later collection, this CD would probably not be a good buy. As a starting (being a first or second)CD to Vivaldi however, this is the CD to get. In addition, the booklet contains a historical timeline of around the period that Vivaldi lived which strengths my opinion that this CD is best targeted for a novince listener that knows almost nothing of Vivaldi's life rather than an experienced listener that knows somewhat of his life. Tracks I recomend are of course the Four Seasons, but keep in mind that each season on this CD is performed by a different ensemble, the guitar concerto and the flute concerto (the flute concerto is incomplete in this CD). Five stars would have been given solely on the basis of variety of the CD, but overall not very homogenous (ie., way too many performers in this CD-does not give the listener a chance a acclumate to a certain ensemble's style). My recommendation for anyone who is relatively new to Vivaldi is to buy this CD and if you like it, then branch out from here. If not, at least you can say that you own a Vivaldi CD. Thanks.
