The Tudor Times20th Century
All of the performers burst forth in joyous sound in a very talented manner .
Justin's Top 12 List of Dance CDs1998
Those [pieces for dancing] I've played with seem to be useful arrangements, and the music is pretty.
Album Description
Silence Is Deadly is a compilation of Renaissance dance music from England, Ireland and Italy. All of the pieces herein were performed and recorded "live" in the studio to capture and preserve the true improvisational and fiery nature of the music as it must have been played so many years ago. These arrangements will also please Renaissance country dancers as the songs are played with the correct number of repititions to perform the dances.

Customer Reviews:
I beg to Differ!.......2005-01-27
I beg to differ, not about the quality of the the musicianship or the ratings. But the music on this cd has nothing to do with the Renaissance as far as I can tell - despite the comment on the front of the CD. Purcell, for example, is not generally considered a Renaissance composer. Nor is Rufty Tufty a tune from the Renaissance. Instead we are talking about late 17th century and 18th century music - all very lively played. I recommend the disc to anyone who enjoys what is more accurately described as English Country Dance music.
A complete joy to listen to.......2003-07-02
I'v purchased several copies of this cd as gifts for friends. I defy anyone to find a better cd of traditional renaissance country dance music. It's such a rare find and such a pleasure to listen to. And the quality of the recording is superb. This makes an excellent, and unique gift.
Silence Is Deadly/Renaissance Is Golden.......2003-06-27
This is a gathering of Renaissance country dancing music at its best. Recorders, mandolins, sacbutt and percussion all blend together in a hard-driving and very danceable set of standard tunes from perhaps history's greatest period for art and music. Each musician moves in and out of melodic, harmonic and rhythm sensibility with an ease that makes this album innovative, improvisatory, yet faithful to the original concepts of musical and dance forms of its era.
Highly recommended!
Renaissance music comes alive!.......2003-06-26
Finally, a Renaissance dance music compilation that allows the music to live. That is, wonderful melodies simmering with great harmony and rhythm. Along with country dances, one finds Morris tunes, courtly tunes and Celtic mainstays such as Road to Lisdoonvarna and Blarney Pilgrim/Banish Misfortune (not to mention a great drinking song featuring the virtuoso belchpipes of a ripe mandolin player). There are 23 dances pieces on this CD and each one will have you moving! Check out the free downloads for this album and find out why this album comes highly recommended.
