Like the works of most lyrical poets, those of Théophile de Viau were closely related to his life. His talent as a poet earned him the friendship of all free-thinking young authors who had not been drawn into Malherbe's sphere of influence, and finally the favor of Louis XIII. Robert de Visée was a man of humble character, judging by the few accounts left to us by his contemporaries and by the preface in his book of guitar pieces. Beautifully packaged with extensive liner notes in French and English, the recording has recieved critical acclaim for its interpretation of 17th century artistic creation.
