Editorial Reviews Balaji Shankar learnt Carnatic music from Sangita Kalanidhi D.K. Jayaraman and is currently studying under Sangita Kalanidhi DK Pattammal. H gave vocal support to his Guru Jayaraman during the years 1988-1990, when he was in his early teens. He was declared the best vocalist in the " Spirit of youth festival" in 1989, the music academy, Madras. In the same year he won the first prize and the " TAMBOORA" award in the Papanasivam Sivan music competition, held by the All India Radio. Balaji won the first prize in Carnatic vocal music.
