Memorable Malkauns

Editorial Reviews
Album Description
Unlike its counter parts in the western world, the Indian flute is an unpretentious bamboo reed. A legendary instrument, reputed to have been played by none other than the divine cowherd Lord Krishna himself, it has remained unchanged through the ages. Not easily amenable to the rendering of the complicated structure of classical Indian music, its mastery is made doubly difficult by its very simplicity.

Hariprasadji not only occupies a unique place in India as the country's top ranking flutist, but is also acclaimed worldwide for his mastery of the the melodious wind instrument. Pandit Chaurasia hails from North Indian city of Allahabad, rendered holy by the confluence of three sacred rivers. Attracted by the lure of music from childhood. He trained himself rigorously in the blowing technique for 8 years under Pandit Bholanath. His passion for the mastery of Indian Classical music led him to Guru Ma, Smt. Annapurna Devo, the brilliant daughter of many sided genius, the late Ustad Allauddin Khan, who is, by common consent, ranked as the greatest musician India has produced in modern times. Pandit Chaurasia has been invited to perform at numerous European Festivals and also on many concert tours of North America.
