Born in Assam in 1950, Parween Sultana started her lessons in music at the age of six from her father, Ikramul Majid, himself a vocalist by inclination, having learnt from the late Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan. Later she became the disciple of noted musician and musicologist from Calcutta, Pandit CAhimnoy Lahiri, who gave his valuable guidance and inspiration.

In 1974 she began to learn from Ustad Dilshad Khan, now her husband. And today they are an outstanding musical duo whose "jugabandhis" are memorable.
